Ten figure OS Grid Reference Files for GPS

Below is a selection box which will allow you to choose a mountain area.  This will display a box with the GPS data for the area selected, with data held in GPSU format, for downloading directly to a Garmin GPS receiver.   Please feel free to copy and paste any data you require.

Mountain Group:

The box shows entries for all mountains and hills in the area selected, irrespective of the list (e.g. Munros, Marilyns) to which the area name pertains.

If you have a different GPS device, you could visit Phil Newby's GPS site where you'll find waypoints in all sorts of formats, as well as lots of other GPS stuff.

The grid references are in the section with the following heading...

F ID---- Zn East North Symbol---- T Alt(m) Comment
F = record type, e.g. W for Waypoint.
ID = 6 character Waypoint ID - a unique identifier for the mountain.
Zn = OS 100km grid letters
East = Eastings, North = Northings
Symbol = symbol which will appear on the GPS screen to mark the waypoint - "Circle-X" indicates grid ref estimated by careful map measurement, "Flag" indicates actual GPS reading taken on a walk, "Car" means start point of a walk.  You may need to change the Symbol Set and symbols to suit your receiver.
T = what is to be displayed on GPS screen - "C" for Comment, "I" for ID.
Alt(m) = Altitude in metres

Comment = Name of summit, followed by (in brackets) its rank (Munros only) or mountain type.

Example:
W SC5345 NN 49615 71845 Circle-X   C E    1148.0 Ben Alder (MN)
Ben Alder is 1348m high, it is a Marilyn and a Munro, and the grid ref is an estimate from reading the map.
