From NE then E ridge as others, forest track most of way, some windthrow, descended NW to pick up alternative forest road leading back to the estate road | RHW | 25/12/2022 |
Approached from the water works to the east which was opened by Queen Victoria and still supplies Aberdeen via pipe with treated water extracted here from the Dee(presumably a grill prevents the odd salmon being sucked in). Upgraded since and now with an added solar farm.
Walked along Cairnton House estate road with mm high manicured grass verges before open woods and patches of non-manicured head high bracken to summit. Attempts to reach Hill of Trustach failed despite overcoming a lengthy palaver with over head high bracken, and pushing through a deer tunnel of sorts alongside a high fence under /through broom and gorse ( if I had a mishap here it would have been like looking for someone lost in the forests of Borneo). All this only for active forestery work in the wrong place around the Trustach summit with keep out signs. | Chris Pearson | 03/09/2019 |
