From car park to NE. Bike to edge of forest then walk/ jog up summit path. One hour round trip in sun and heavy showers. | AndyS | 15/07/2023 |
With Sandy. Up the Fungle path then back along forest roads and MTB area to minor road near Drumneachie. | slynch | 30/05/2023 |
From Baudy Meg around north side of Black Moss on heathery ground that wasn't too bad. Went too far north and ended up having to drop down to about 380m before climbing back up to the Fungle Road. (Should have skirted closer to summit of Black Moss). From FR it was NE up easy track to impressive summit cairn and monument. 4 of 5 Tumps on circular from Birse Castle. | Jossker | 29/10/2022 |
Parked at the Birse Community Forest car park at NO5450 9623. Followed the forest track (not on my older map) linking in with the track coming from Oldyleiper, and continuing all the way to link with the track up the NE shoulder of the hill. Straightforward, tracked walk, all the way to the summit. | LizH | 25/11/2021 |
From Birsemore. Path from The Guard to good track then poor track from SW of the hill. A little snow lying at the top. | chrisbien | 21/11/2021 |
My 4th Dodd of the day. Looked easy enough on the map with a road to the top. Not so. To avoid Birse Castle sp route is a foot pathSouth of the burn at Ballochan. Finally on to estate road with mtb, but last 1k up to summit is walking only. Afterwards on descent also cycled almost to top of Hill of Duchery. Walked the last 300m due to rough track. | NormanW | 03/08/2021 |
Solo. From Aboyne. I walked up Fungle Road (path) until out of the forest, then went up the heathery slopes to the summit of Carnferg. Deviated to include Craigendinnie on the descent. Warm and sunny so many others out and about. | pwbellarby | 12/07/2020 |
Beautiful mint conditions on the last day of the year of sunshine, blue skies and light wind -perfect for our a 6 hr 5 Tump hillwalk / chat from Birse Castle with L and John & Becks -on the first day of their 5 day visit over New Year. Busy summit of this distinctive hill above Aboyne - with family groups enjoying the views incl. a girl I teach - I first recognised her distictive lime green outdoor jacket which she normally wears in the playground! | Chris Pearson | 31/12/2019 |
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log:

Lovely walk up to this on our 6th wedding anniversary. We reckon about a 10km round trip via the fungal from the South. | thejackrustles | 22/09/2018 |
Got bus to Aboyne, walked up Fungle road and turned left up to Carnferg. Descended on track down NE spur, then through Kittling Wood and back to Aboyne on minor road. Beautiful spring day. 18km trip. | PiranhaFish | 10/05/2018 |
Hill run of Carnferg, Hill of Duchery, Brackenstake | nix_snilloc | 18/03/2017 |
Stupid ugly folly and typical grouse moor mismanagement. | Martin R | 06/04/2016 |

Park at 544964 and follow the delightful track up through the wood and then pleasantly up across the moor to the summit. Perfect antidote to Scar Hill climbed earlier | Thearlaichdubh | 11/09/2014 |
