Along the track from the Altnaharra/Loch Hope road. Meadie Burn running freely so even a quick dash across in gaiters resulted in damp feet. Rest of the walk in and out very straightforward. Brilliant views to Hope, Loyal, Klibreck, Hee and down to Ben Loyal. Went on to do Cnoc Sgriodain (Klibreck) | StueyB | 09/11/2023 |
Cycle in up from Fiag Bridge to modern lodge. Rising traverse along Loch before streaky climb up the SW ridge. Fine views particularly to Ben Hope cloudy start but soon sunny day. | N.Morters | 05/06/2022 |
Staying at the caravan site in Strathnaver, so opted to climb this one and CD Bheag from the Hope road at 515374. Easy crossing of the Meadie Burn due to low water levels. Easily to summit then down to the Bealach for Bheag, returning by Meall na Teanga. 6h 30m for 22.8k. | NormanW | 03/05/2021 |
Dropped down to the beallach from CDB and climbed up steep slope to summit, hot work in this warm day. Again super views of hills to the horizon, particurly More, Hee, Hope Loyal and Klibreck ,most with snow on tops. Back to the beallach and traverse along parallel to loch but 300m back to avoid reported poor ground. 6 hours 20 mins car to car | Coinneach | 21/04/2021 |
A round of Creag Dhubh Beag and Mhor from Fiag Bridge. Easy walk up the track to the lodge, interesting architecture but badly built; will fall down soon, I expect. NE from the lodge, contouring directly to CDB, then onwards to CDM up the stream above the bealach. Howling gale at the top. Both are splendid hills, easy going, fabulous views, but the walk back to the lodge round Loch Fiag is, er, less good. | Gill | 21/09/2020 |
wow- when you reach the loch- empty space ! watch the contour lines on descent. second hill of fday | VerySlowPlodder | 01/08/2020 |
Cycled up to Fiag Lodge, then round of CDB and CDM. A warm day, enough wind on summit to blow away the clegs but they were biting in strength lower down. Fine all round view of Sutherland. Descended smooth south ridge, then rougher ground along east bank of loch. Fiag Lodge looked to be a rather futuristic design by well resourced developers, but little sign of any current or recent occupation. Easily back down excellent track to Fiag Bridge despite head wind. | Topographer57 | 26/07/2019 |
3 of 3: From Creag Dhubh Bheag. Continued over Ben Harrald (Dad's name). | ChrisR | 16/04/2018 |
Clockwise route from Mudale, Good parking above farm. Had to climb 8' locked gate by farm then boots off to cross 2 rivers in spate. (My old OS map showed 2 bridges, but not there anymore!). Hoping to follow path to lochan but couldn't cross burn lower down. Eventually did (boots off again!) and up to Bheag summit then across to Mhor. Direct route back so 2 more river crossings. Mostly easy ground though totally sodden. Just over 6 hrs. | AndrewFinnimore | 18/06/2017 |
Parked up the Ben Hope road above Mudale nr point 145 on road. Woods now cleared, excellent farmers then stalkers path track goes through here and old pastures as far as the top spur at 330m just NNE of summit GR46418 34785. Easy to summit from here. Cut a direct line then to neighbouring Beag (some care on SW slopes of the Mor) before descending NE through some slow ground to reach the bottoms of Stratha Duibh. Interesting moraine piles, contoured then climbed up NE further on Meall na Tanga before crossing 1 km above waterfall (easy going) and rejoining track to start point. Really nice route, took just under 6 hrs. | nordicstar | 22/06/2016 |
Coming in from the north east on the old track was a good route. Pretty easy across to the Beag, then a long walk out. | jenx | 22/06/2016 |
Coincidentally climbed the Creag Dhubh's by a similar route to nordicstar and jenx, the day before. The only variation was that, on the return, I cut over the bealach between Creag Dhubh Mhor and Meall na Teanga to reach the end of the approach track. | Chris Peart | 21/06/2016 |
Parked on road by lane to Fiag Lodge. Very good surface, but as I'm a walker, not a cyclist, soon left bike and walked all 6 miles. Forgot map case in car in all the excitement, so these two hills were the first that I have climbed for some time without a map, entitrely from memory! Luckily the day was clear and the moor quite dry. Most northerly unclimbed Marilyn. Very fancy barn conversion at the Lodge. No deer fences as yet, so that they will come up and do their business on the patio! | arranc | 07/07/2013 |
