From Lochbuie up vague line of old path above Glen Byre. On to Beinn Charsaig, down to Carsaig pier, and back along coast. Hills very dry so lovely easy walking. | daviemore | 09/06/2023 |
Just to be different, I climbed the hill from the north. Parked at loop of old road, then back to Rossal Farm entrance (deer fence prevents short cuts, climbing it would alarm the campervan drivers). L before the farm, R at fork in logging road, keep going up, ignore R fork to felling area and strange, steep LH fork by an illegible wooden signpost, instead cross the bridge onto an old, mossy track which becomes a soggy, mossy ATV track following the mapped line of the old path except near the top of the forestry where wooden posts mark the route to emerge directly below the Mam an Trotanaich at 559260. From there, a straightforward, pleasant walk to the top, rocky outcrops, gravelly scree in places. The top is very nice with the lochan below and the lower cairned top worth a visit also. In mist, 2 bearings get you easily to the path; the fence is long gone | Gill | 24/06/2021 |
Parked near end of track heading SE. Followed boggy ATV track to river. Visited tops on both sides of summit lochan. Back the same way. | PGCE | 22/02/2020 |
Route as NormanW. | Chris Peart | 09/11/2019 |
From parking at start of quad track at 532231. Crossed the burn West of the waterfall then straight to the summit. Also touched the cairn on top of nearby rocky top which was 3m lower. Very wet underfoot on the lower part of the hill due to previous day's heavy rain. My last Section 17E Marilyn. | NormanW | 07/09/2019 |
From 532231 aimed for waterfall but on encountering a ravine descended to ruin near the stream. Crossed the stream and ascended close to wood then up a quad track onto the ridge. There the found gets better but there are hags higher up and the summit is surprisingly craggy. Returned from ruin to car on another quad track. | Topographer57 | 10/04/2019 |
From large passing place at 532231, across wet bit by old atv track, left at first deer track and head for waterfall. Overcast, windy, cool but great views. | iangalbraith | 19/06/2018 |
3/3 From wood end/cattle grid on high point on the carsaig road. Short drop to cross easy wide river and on ATV tracks then grassy slope to summit area. Summit area mix of rocky lumps and Lochans and a view to the main Mull range to die for...made up for the dull grass approach. | N.Morters | 21/04/2018 |
From Lochbuie, but not recommended except for the lovely scenery. | jenx | 25/08/2016 |
S/F Lochbuie. Good path up onto plateau then back down to Glenbyre and track back. | AndrewFinnimore | 11/05/2016 |

First walk of the week, We all went , crossed a little river , walked around in the rain and clouds and found that the river had swollen so much that we had to wade through it on the way out. A little unexpected adventure. | tallblond | 05/05/2013 |
Clockwise circuit to bag the Marilyn, TuMP and the two subHuMPs with Jim Bloomer. | Dugswell2 | 28/04/2013 |
Started at little car park in Lochbuie. Track past An Learg, over the two sub Humps, round head of Glen Byre to summit. Returned by descending to Glenbyre and the coast path. | Martin R | 16/04/2012 |
From Glen Leidle, south of forestry. | BLACKHILL | 27/04/2011 |
From the pier at Carsaig | Alan Moore | 18/12/2008 |
Parked at high point on Carsaig road. Over sludge and 2 side streams to a buggy track crossing the main river at a sort of ford. Both feet wet. To forest corner to reach height of starting point. Pleasant walk on tracks and to an area of stony patches. Deer drifted off as I got higher. Past 1 or 2 peat hags and 2 lochans and to top at 11.45. Large moss covered stones in a heap. | arranc | 20/08/2007 |
Long trudge out and back from Carsaig House. | Eddie | 03/09/2005 |
