1st hill of 12 on a 28km circular from Llanarmon D.C using good track to the East and then near Coed Bach using a gate to climb up through pasture to walk alongside the wood. Atmospheric misty conditions then used gate beyond wood to access the summit ridge first encountering a nice block of quartzite before the true summit. Descent Wnw beside fence to reach stream, crossing at ford to reach track, heading up to Bryn Du... | Dazingdale | 09/03/2024 |
As Aye Jimmy, good verge parking above Pen-yr-allt at SJ 1571 3370 - N. along track for about 100m, through gate & then along N. edge of plantation to old iron gate into access land - A short climb past the defences of the Iron Age hillfort to the quartzite summit. | gerrybowes | 17/03/2022 |
Parked beyond end of tarmac road from LDC, lots of young grouse. Up Bryn Du first, then gates, stiles and sheep pastures led to top. Nice little top. Back same way to track. | PeterD | 13/08/2021 |
Parked to the SE in pull-in in unmade lane (as Aye Jimmy) SJ157336. | David Evans | 16/12/2019 |
As Aye Jimmy. Saves a steep walk up the lane. Interesting top. | Campbell Singer | 24/10/2019 |
From church in Pentre. A long slog this way. Great scenery. Hares. Incredible quartz on top. | tumpawumpa | 18/04/2019 |
From Llanarmon DC drove up steep lane past Pen-y-bryn to good parking spot about 100m beyond end of tarmac road. Followed lane then branched left for a way to fence line leading directly up the hill. Superb quartz summit rocks - best appreciated in summer! Continued to Bryn Du. | Aye Jimmy | 05/05/2018 |

Parked in LDC. Up road & track with detour through fields to MB. One bw fence to cross. Back to track without a fence crossing, then on to Bryn Du. No parking at 157337 as RHW suggests. | ngthack | 13/03/2017 |
From Pen y bryn which is a fair height above the valley floor. Along the labe a wee bit then up along field. Hares running for cover. The summit area has numerous huge quartzite boulders a dramatic place for sure. Wind today cut like a knife. Cant even begin to imagine how harsh it would have been for the romans camped up here. Earthworks clearly visible. | stig_nest | 26/04/2016 |
From Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog. Snow drifts and quarzite rocky top made for an experience bigger than its prominence would suggest. | summitsup | 14/01/2016 |
From Llanarmon DG with Bryn Du. Bright white quartz top. | clivevilla | 07/08/2015 |
