Exceptionally difficult hack from Monkside. On to Earl's Seat.Wycombe Wanderer17/08/2023
From Hall Knowe parking area. Took the cycle route S for ~900m, then up nasty, almost non-existent breaks to open ground, which wasn't much better. Off the cycle route this was a bad route, unsure there's anything better though. Bagged the trig and the 448m spot height also. Certainly won't be returning to this one... for anything!jonglew10/06/2023
From Butteryhaugh Bridge. Forest road SSE then up the firebreak to Castle Hill (a mountain bike trail and then easy paths through the plantation just N of the firebreak made it easy). Forest roads (with the odd fallen tree to get round) to start of firebreak NW of the top (NY654947) - the problem was that the firebreak exists on the map but hardly at all on the ground. Heavy going through the fairly young plantation then rough heather > Pike Knowe. On to the TP and returned SW easily enough down the wide firebreak to 500m beyond the Fire Obs tower and regained the forest roads.JohnR22/03/2022
Parked at Blakehope Nick > fence line all the way to Monkside > forest track to Wainhope bothy > forest track to Greys Pike and onto Pike Knowe > dropped down Fuller Sike NY660 948 and onto Forest Drive > back to Blakehope Nick 6hrs 30mins 23.7KmAndrew Simmons12/06/2021
A second visit to this delightful hill (not). This time took excelent advice of mae (thanks for proper detail) and biked from Buttery Haugh all the way to NY 6602 9400 - much easier and quicker than a slog thru' the forest (see my log on TUK for Grey's Pike)carole engel03/08/2019
As Aye Jimmy. The firebreak near 6454,9291 is difficult to spot until you are actually in it. Two large boulders in the track at that GR indicate the spot where you leave it and head very steeply into the trees - the firebreak soon becomes obvious.Crib Goch14/02/2019
Cycled from Butteryhaugh bridge to NY 6600 9400, leaving the bridleway at NY 658 911 then turning left at NY 666 928. 350m from bike to summit. Decent views.mae20/08/2018
Easy roadside parking on an access track south of Butteryhaugh (alt 200m). Take the forest road until it crosses a stream. Turn left (NW) here and follow a stoned track through the trees until it reaches a wall. Turn right until you reach a forest road alongside an information board at Castle Hill. The area ahead has been cut down and is morass of brash. An alternative is to walk NE then SE to rejoin the path again. Walk 300m along it until it is blocked by trees, but a good path leads SE. At a bend look for the path to the fire-tower. It exists though the start is difficult to find. After the fire tower there is a path to the summit but it keeps to the edge of the trees on your left, not in the centre of the fire break. 7.86km return 2 hrs 30 mins. 393m of ascentmoorsman09/05/2018
Quick out to Pike Knowe, Grey's Pike and the trig from Wainhope bothy in winter.Eddie29/11/2017
From near Butteryhaugh Bridge. Into forest at NY 6336.9263, up short way then worked up R to track junction at Osprey MTB noticeboard 6377.9282. Track NE then SE to Devil's Lapful. Across brash to firebreak near 6454.9291. This leads past fire tower on Three Pikes trail, very soggy after previous day's deluge. First hill has trig, second has heather, third is Pike Knowe summit with cairn under Xmas tree.Aye Jimmy15/09/2016
Training runs for 2011 Kielder Marathonbutteryhaugh03/04/2011
Walked up from Kielder Castle through trees and snow filled rides. No sign of any path, although the book says there is one. Continued on over Three Pikes and back along the forest road from East Kielder. Pretty wet in places. Pleased the previous visitor enjoyed it. Good in parts only for us.Walker Dan07/03/2010
