13 mile hike starting across the river from shillmoor. Down and back up from shillhope | The-Z-Man | 01/01/2024 |
From Wedder Leap car park (NT 8663 1039). Up to Middle Hill, The Middle and Yarnspath Law first. Picked this up on way back to the car. A pleasant 7 mile round. | jonglew | 18/08/2023 |
A quick bag from the col to the SW after Shillhope Law. I intended to traverse the ridge using the bw to the NW but truncated route to take opportunity of a weather window before a forecast (correct) for very heavy rain. | pwheeler | 08/09/2022 |
A circuit of 400m summits from Wedder Leap car park, visiting: Barrow Law (s4), Shorthope Hill, Ward Law, then along Clennel Street to Peat Law, Saughy Hill, Nettlehope Hill, a big descent across Usway Burn (dryshod) and reascent to Kyloe Shin. A total distance of 21.7km with 1040m ascent in 6 hours. | silveracorn_alan | 09/05/2022 |
From Middle Hill on grassy track to obvious summit with pile of spent cartridges. We then descended SE to the Usway Burn valley but could not ford it and the mapped FB at Batailshiel does not exist. The West bank is not too bad though. Would probably have been better to retrace our steps N to Fairhaugh, where the track appears to cross the burn? Once on the track c 800m S of Batailshiel, it's excellent with a series of Baileybridges. | Denise | 07/03/2022 |
Path from Middle Hill. Grassy hill top littered with spent blank cartridges and chain link of machine gun posts. Descend S to the Unsway where it's easier to descend the W bank than contemplate a river crossing. Dipper. | RichardM | 07/03/2022 |
On a round of three from Shillmoor | Andrew Simmons | 03/12/2021 |
#10 of 10 from Barrowford | jimbloomer | 16/07/2021 |
Alwinton - Yarnspath Law - Windy Gyle - The Middle - Middle Fell - Kyloe Shin - Shillhope Law - Alwinton. Steep but short pull up a quad track to reach the summit | Gary Heath | 22/12/2020 |
Ample parking at Wedder Leap. Straight up the hill at Wedder Leap and then up the track/path to Shillhope Law TP > Kyloe Shin along obvious tracks > Middle Hill along a clear route through the forested area around the summit > The Middle > Shorthope Hill through rough grass when off the marked path > Wedder Leap | JohnR | 07/10/2020 |
Easy walk from Shillhope Law. Descended east by fence and crossed burn by sheep folds. Straight up to Nettlehope Hill. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 13/01/2020 |
See Nettlehope Hill | carole engel | 21/07/2019 |
We took the track from Shillmoor over Copper Snout to Saughgy Hill, then a 4x4 track on to Nettlehope Hill, before joining a forestry track heading north through recently felled and newly planted plantation - popping out just shy of Yarnspath Law (heavy heather until reaching a fence line with side path). Westwards and over the Usway burn by a footbridge just north of height 345. Return route was along good tracks, taking in The Middle, Kyloe Shin (great name), Shillhope Law, and Inner Hill. Gentle decline back to the start. Lovely walk, 4 hrs. | summitter | 24/05/2019 |
With Jo, from Wedder Leap: track over Lounge Knowe to Shillhope Law, then paths to Kyloe Shin and returning along path above Barrow Burn. Weather; cloudy, cold wind, moderate visibility. | amblerbob | 02/05/2019 |
With Cushat Law | nickywood1 | 04/08/2018 |
13.4 mile walk from Wedder Leap car park, Coquetdale, followed road briefly then up onto Hindside Knowe (25m prominence) and along ridge to Swineside Law, passed goats up onto the Pennine Way, out to Mozie Law and Beefstand Hill and back, then onto Windy Rig and Windy Gyle, headed south missing Ward Law down and up onto The Middle and Middle Hill (nearly completely cleared of trees), then along to Kyloe Shin with a final pull up to Shillhope Law then steep descent back to car park. Clear and sunny all day but cold and very windy. Saw a few people all day mainly on Windy Gyle. | DanTrig | 05/11/2017 |
With TMD. Shillhope Circuit. Cool but little wind and bright, a nice walk. | meltdiceburg | 30/10/2017 |
From Shillhope Law. Good place to admire the bulk of the previous hill (now out of mist). Last summit of two days in the these quiet hills. | Wycombe Wanderer | 27/08/2017 |
Circuit from Barrowburn. Kyloe Shin - Middle Hill - The Middle - Uswayford - Lint Lands - Uswayford - Ward Hill and Shorthope Hill. | Moorponder | 11/07/2017 |
Wedders Leap - Lounges Knowe Shillhope Law - Kyloe Shin - Usway Burn - Fairhaugh - Barrowburn - Wedders Leap. | briandavies | 28/10/2016 |
From Middle Hill, took wrong track which led down to Fairhaugh (attractive building though) resulting in climb back up to the grassy shoulder leading up to Kyloe. Then not so pleasant very steep descent to track to Barrowburn. Last hill on circuit from Barrowburn: Shorthope Hill; Ward Law; Lint Lands; Bloodybush Edge; Yarnspath Law; The Middle; Middle Hill; Kyloe Shin. Good outing, saw no-one all day. | Aye Jimmy | 27/05/2016 |
From Shillhope Law then north to Windy Gyle. | Alan Moore | 19/04/2016 |
Wedder Leap, Shilhope Law, Saughy Hill (NB FB on old 1:25,000 map at Batailshiel Haugh does not exist, but fortuitously there was a flood-wrecked bridge wedged across the river slightly north of here at the western edge of the enclosed land just south of The Castles - 877104) Nettlehope Hill, Yarnspath Law, The Middle, Middle Hill, Kyloe Shin, Barrowburn Tea Room closed at 4pm before I got there, Wedder Leap | ijpowell | 15/04/2016 |
Part of a splendid walk from Shillmoor. Over Shillhope Law and Kyloe Shin, down to Fairhaugh and back along the Usway Burn. Highly recommended - great views and easy going, a total contrast to the usual bog fests in the Cheviots! There is no bridge at Fairhaugh, so this could be awkward if the river is in spate. In dry conditions, it's dead easy to cross. | Gill | 04/02/2016 |
Parked SW of Barrow Law then up track past Rowhope and Trows to Uswayford then uphill to bag Bloodybush Edge with Dusty. Then four TUMPs on our high return route over Yarnspath Law, The Middle, Middle Hill and finally Kyloe Shin. | Dugswell2 | 29/09/2015 |
Parked on the verge close to the start of the bridleway north of Barrowburn (tea shop). Cut along it to the moor gate after the Deer Hut then an easy direct ascent to the top. About 45 minutes return. | moorsman | 30/07/2015 |
Crossed summit (deliberately to bag it)with Darren On day 1 of OMM (my 21st KIMM /OMM) doing short score after a steep climb from small crag c/p on east flank, then to a murderous heather flounder across northern flanks of Yanspeth Law where it all went horribly wrong with our time, energy levels and navigation. | Chris Pearson | 25/10/2014 |
W Jenx, after Shillhope Law, continue to Kyloe Shin, then down to cross carefully the Usway Burn before tracking river downstream and out forest to gain Nettlehope Burn and Saughy Hills, down Copper Snout back to start. | nordicstar | 15/02/2014 |
From Barrowburn in Upper Coquetdale on a round of Bloodybush Edge and Windy Gyle. Summit an unmarked grassy knoll. | Man of Kernow1 | 05/05/2013 |
From large car park at Wedder Leap NT 86642 10327. Included Shillhope Law & Middle Hill to the north. | David Gradwell | 28/03/2010 |
On way down from Shilhope Law, back by Usway Burn to Shillmoor. | Walker Dan | 24/10/2007 |
