From lay-by on A6 for round of Pipers Hill, Whinash, Winterscleugh, Whinfell Beacon, Castle Fell, Mabbin Crag and Ashtead Fell. Followed tracks all the way. Took just over 5 hours.PeterD31/01/2023
Bad news for lazy baggers, the titillatingly named Breast High Road is about to be closed to motor vehicles, for repair. Good news - means road might be drivable without a 4x4 from 2023.Martin R27/03/2022
From the lay-by on the A6 at NY 55218 03790. Took the path down the north side of Borrowdale, then stony track up to the col between the two fells. Two walls to scale to reach the summit of Pipers Hill. Returned to the col, then ATV track up to the summit of Whinash. Return by outward route. With AT and JT. 8.1km with 360m of ascent.Man of Kernow118/12/2021

Fr0m Huck's Bridge. 4 hills to whinfell, then drop down into Borrowdale and ascend between Bush Howe and Jeffrey Mount. Along to Jeffrey Mount and then all the way along the ridge to Piper's Hill and back to Huck's Bridge over the stepping stones. Just under 5 hours.Longwojo29/05/2021
13.5 mile circular from A6 layby following good but boggy trail over Ashtead Fell, Mabbin Crag, Castle Fell, Whinfell Beacon, Grayrigg West Top (23m prominence) and Grayrigg. Then descending to valley and following easy grass trails across Winterscleugh, Whinash and pathless Pipers Hill back down to car. 1071m ascent. Sunny/breezy conditions with nice views. No one about. From Breasthigh road we climbed easily over 2 collapsed walls up to summit. Then retraced our steps to road then followed river back to A6. The footpath below Greenside Crag is passable eventhough the bank has fell away into the river below.DanTrig18/05/2021

From Thorny Bank. Seemed to take forever, toiling up the wet, spongy slopes on a compass bearing in the fading light. Made it back to the car at the last gasp of day. A disappointing walk because of the weather but from the little I could see it seems a strangely neglected area. Pencilled in for a return in fine weather. Incredible that Wainwright didn't include a walk here in The Outlying Fells. 6 hrs 45 mins.Wycombe Wanderer20/10/2018
