Birthday walk for Rick Ground still frozen though snow melting today. A good walk over Parkhouse, Chrome, High Edge, and Hollins. With B and R.jenx20/01/2024
On own. A dry but bitterly cold day with sub zero temperatures. Parked by Buxton Raceway. Along minor road to junction then through two field gates to summit by pillbox. Continued along minor road to Booth Farm then and along footpaths on access land to summit of Hollins Hill on rim of tumulus.Beeliner08/01/2024
3/4 today .. Walked from Thurkelow Rocks. Kinda messed it up as didnt want to climb a gate (By Booth Farm drive cattle grid) and what looked like a wall/fence so carried on along the road and approached from the South west. No real path for 1/4 mile but worth it. Coming off the fence to the North was trodden down (Why do people do that) So went over to the Cairn (and bunker) and took the FP off .. really enjoyed both WW2 Pill boxes and 2nd Ethel of the day.Deego07/08/2023

As other, up the side of the wall, and stepped round the bwf at its end. An unusual summit feature, and an unusual design of structure. Down via the RoW to the NW, and on to Brierlow Bar for the bus.Moorponder07/09/2020

Parked on the road junction to the south and went up to the right of the wall. I cannot imagine why it was thought the Germans might attack through the Peak District although nobody expected them to attack through the Ardennes in 1940.clivevilla23/07/2019

8.9 mile walk from parking at old piece of road at Cisterns Clough. Walked SE down single track road following paths to Fairthorn farm, up to Thirkelow Rocks, then along single track roads to High Edge, down lane to Booth farm up onto Hollins Hill (good view of Chrome Hill), along lanes to Tenterhill farm and along small roads through Hillend farm down Manifold Trail (fairly unused)to Black Bank farm, across main road to Northfield farm and Flash, up to Oliver Hill and across to Axe Edge (small path) back to car. Sunny for most of the time until we got to Oliver Hill then we thought we'd get soaked (no coats) but the rain was pathetic in the end. Then drove to Grin Low to bag and Combs Head to bag. 12 miles all together, nice day.DanTrig23/09/2016
Near line of ww 2 pill boxes defending wartime RAF munitions dump for bombs and chemical weapons, protected within in a series of tunnels served by railway lines. Then part sold in 1960s to be a mushroom farm! Now part houses HSE test labs for rolling stock, including London Underground. Hillend quarry is a venue for live exhibitions of mining, quarrying and recycling plant, The eastern end appear to be an active quarry. All surpringly interesting. Limestone pavement.Denise 04/07/2016
Appropriately the high point of the day. Hard to drag Denise away from the war time relics.RichardM04/07/2016
