A visit to Duncolm on 29th February. Just had to be done. A touch blustery.Colin Crawford29/02/2024
Up from Kilpatrick hills car park. Plenty of people about around Loch Humphrey then nice and quiet. Great view from the top. On to the Duncolms and the unexpected bench next to the trig on Duncolm.Buck10/01/2024
Ninetieth visitColin Crawford11/12/2023
From Auchineden Farm (Edenmill) via John Muir Way to Burncrooks Reservoir. Then up through forest. After leaving forest path becomes very wet underfoot (a lot of rain recently). Return via Lily Loch and back to John Muir Way. Walked around north side of Burncrooks, then took path over moorland to the Whangie. Up to Auchinden Hill after the Whangie and then a different path back to John Muir Way and Auchineden.Fife Walking13/08/2023
Eden mill tourism centre car park. Exit and find John Muir Trail signage. Take a left into forest. Straight on. Forest road become firebreak with human trod path. In places water logged and Uber mushy. Exit forest into newishky planted area. This means climbing over a high stile. Human plod is still obvious. Crosses and old dry stone wall and upwards. Return same way * dry scone at Eden mill. No herbal s other than camomile ( Euch). *VerySlowPlodder16/07/2023

Highest point of the day on a very soggy cross country route from Singer to Milngavie.Alex C24/10/2022
From large free car park at Edenmill (513793) along JMW to junction at 492790; a short section of track (about 400m) immediately before junction was closed for logging, but no activity today so no need to follow diversion - Continued SW to end of track & then path, wet in places, along firebreak to ladder stile over deer fence - SW along path to collapsed section of wall & then up well-used path to summit. Good view across Loch Lomond to the Highlands.gerrybowes09/08/2022

From Queens View parking, good track/paths all the way.rhalstead04/06/2022

From Cochno. The Slacks, Fynloch Hill, Middle Duncolm, Duncolm, Little Duncolm, then back over The Slacks again. Solo.Dangerous Dave29/03/2022
Beeliner's route is a good one. From the massive, highly commercial Edenmill centre; the Covidiots have destroyed the possibility of parking at the waterworks. Trudge up the tarmac, then John Muir Way into the forestry but carry straight on when JMW turns right. Logging road runs past the Kilmannan reservoir below then ATV track continues to a stile by a gate. Track is mainly easy grass but a few extremely wet patches force tussocky and still wet detours. Then simply follow the path up the hill, crossing a wall before heading to the top. Seems a tedious trudge for a daft pimple in the middle of an industrialised moor full of reservoirs and forestry.Gill12/05/2021
From Cochno Rd, through community woodland, and then anti-clockwise circuit along grass paths and the occasional track to Cochno Hill - Craighurst - Duncolm (600th Marilyn) - Middle Duncolm - Fynloch Hill - The Stacks, returning via the Greenside Reservoir private road. The only tricky bit was crossing the mainly pathless section between Craighurst and Duncolm. Thankfully it was very dry underfoot after lack of rainfall for weeks. 3.5hrs.summitter25/04/2021
My 50th visit to Duncolm and my 250th Kilpatrick Tump. Alas, no possibility of a party.Colin Crawford03/04/2021

Thirtieth visit. Hard frost and thin covering of snowColin Crawford23/01/2021
Round of Cochno Hill, The Slacks, Fynloch Hill and both Duncolms in superb conditions, snow on the ground and all bogs frozen hard. Microspikes allowed me to cruise over the tops.Colin Crawford03/01/2021
My tenth visit to Duncolm in 2020 and my hundredth Kilpatrick Tump, counting repeats. And those sad statistics really sum up what has been a dismal yearColin Crawford22/12/2020
Lockdown blues once more but mildly notable - my twentieth visit to DuncolmColin Crawford28/11/2020

Day of Sunny Spells and did quite a few hills.JAdair9709/09/2020
With E. From Edenmill. Toastie and a pot of tea before walk set us up nicely. Followed John Muir Way up minor road, past Water Works buildings and through gate into open land. Where JMW turns towards reservoir, straight ahead on forest track which eventually comes to an end and continues as a path. Duncolm is ahead. Out of forest, through gate and path winds up to summit. Excellent views to Loch Lomond and its islands, the Highlands beyond as well as Campsie Fells and Burncrooks Reservoir. Returned past Lily Loch and JMW path beside reservoir then rejoined outward track.Beeliner05/09/2020
First hill since covid lockdown! A lovely day too.grand views to the Ben. Buzzards and vole burrows. Met a woman so happy to be out she felt like dancing on the trig point. Veryhappybunny02/06/2020
From Kilpatrick running. Not the first or most recent time, but was a time.Iloveducks20/05/2020
From Cochno Hill on a good track, if a bit boggy, via Greenside Reservoir. On to Middle Duncolm and Fynloch on well trod path.sclater06/03/2020
Parked at Auchineden farm restaurant but should have driven further up the road to the water works where there is plenty of parking for walkers. Cycled out the road taking the left branch then following the path along the loch edge to where the forestry area ends. Then walked out the new fence all the way to the hill. Went up the very steep north face which was quite exciting returning down the west side.Simon Winton04/03/2020
First visit to Duncolm this year, walking from homeColin Crawford18/01/2020
A seven mile walk from Eden mill, following the John Muir way to Burncrooks reservoir then continue round the reservoir till you reach a low wall on the left hand side follow this across boggy ground till you reach the base of Duncolm taking four hours to get there and back. Eden Mill has a café, toilets free parking and a bunkhouse.WAYNE ROWLETT20/12/2019
From the east. Parked at Edenmill Centre (Auchineden Farm on 1:50k map). John Muir trail to west arm of Burncrooks reservoir. Pass through gate in new fence, and 50m later bear left on a grassy path (wet in places). This path passes just north of Duncolm: just beyond the hill, a path goes sharp left up to the trig. An easy route, about 4.5km each way. My last Scottish UA/County top.PGCE30/07/2019
Notionally from the 'gasworks', which are quite difficult to get a car to, from a complicated and compact high speed junction - I ended up on a 6 mile detour twice over the Erskine Bridge just to get the 200m N across the Great Western Road. The 'Kilpatrick Braes' CP (='gasworks'), NS4703773211, was closed - re-directed to 'Lunnet' CP, NS4694772851. New signs get you to the start, then nothing - ignore the deterring 'Private Road, Gavinburn' signs - this is the road you need for Loch Humphrey. The ATV track from there meanders about - any paths promising to head more directly towards Duncolm fizzle out in awful terrain - stick with the meandering - it gets you there eventually.Isbjorn27/06/2019
From the gas works. Path to summit pleasantly dry.Susan Bidwell14/06/2019
On round od The Slacks, Fynloch Hill, Middle Duncolm before heading back via Craighurst and Concho Hill with C. ManGing to avoid the rain over Glasgow.PeterD27/05/2019
From Old Kilpatrick up the Slacks and Cochno Hill, along to Auchineden Hill and the Whangie, then back and over Duncolm to the start. A 29km epic in great company.Chris Mac11/05/2019

From the temporary large car park next to the gas works. Good tracks from Loch Humphrey as forestry workers are planting and fencing. Just over 3 hours and nearly 8 miles solo and managed to dodge the showers.bolton13/09/2018

M O. From Queen's View via The Whangie. A good route with easy access down to the reservoir. The land between the reservoir and the base of Duncolm best done in dry weather as this is particularly spongy and mossy.Martin6620/05/2016
With Jenx from the gas works. Final M of section26. Sign near gas works says no unauthorised vehicles but on walking up lane couldn't see reason why parking off road by the cottages shouldnt be a problem. Followed track all way to loch Humphrey very easily, then good path towards Duncolm summit. Possible to bypass the other Tumps en route. 13km round trip done in just over 2 Hours.nordicstar20/12/2015
Clear path through the lumpy landscape leads from Loch Humphrey to the top. Signs saying road closed at quarry are due to landslide and it's easy to walk round this. Section 26 Marilyn's complete!jenx20/12/2015

Final of 4 hills in this group (inc The Slack) and the highest. Headed over to Little Duncolm after just in case, but doesn't appear to have the drop for a classification. Good path back to Loch Humphrey then picked up ridge path to The Slack for return to Greenside Reservoir dam.jonglew13/06/2014

thick snow.Pleased it was easy to get to from train station.AlisonFox66 23/03/2013
For a low summit so close to population centres, Duncolm is surprisingly long walk in. Cold, unbroken sunshine with little wind. Left car opposite gas works at 471732 and walked up broad heavy duty track to Loch Humphrey. From there an adequately defined path, boggy or icy in places, reaches the summit.Topographer5710/12/2012
