Parked on the grass verge opposite public footpath sign on minor road to SE. Good signposted paths all the way to the summit. A really pretty woodland walk. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 23/02/2024 |
From the start of the public footpath to the monument on the SE side of the hill | DaveMcS | 28/01/2024 |

As previously suggested, parked at bend by tree about 200yards down road from footpath signpost.
Shame about poor state of memorial plaque and locked metal door on monument. | Hirta | 14/03/2023 |
Parked at the side of West Hill sheds. Easy, if occasionally steep, snowy ascent to the monument and trig on landrover tracks all the way. | alexmaclennan | 17/12/2022 |

Back to main path, Continued around circuit climbing over 2 padlocked gates past lots of pheasant feedersto meet signposted junction, then retraced steps back to start. 2.5 miles under 1hr round trip. | JulieB | 01/11/2021 |
With Iain. First of N Fife trio. Nice short woodland walk - first time definitively seeing a Green Woodpecker. | iangpark | 08/04/2021 |
Great run/walk with SB. Bright, cold day - still a touch of frost at summit. Place to ourselves. | Hegley | 06/03/2021 |
Muddy but leisurely walk from the East, following signposted route on the way up. Weather sunny with passing showers. Monument double-padlocked - no plaques or notices, so left wondering whether it is out of bounds, owing to covid-19, slavery or both? | barnz48 | 26/10/2020 |
Nice run round the trails to S. Parked at road corner about 100m SW of trailhead. | quadbarrel | 18/10/2020 |
A humid 6 mile return dog walk with L from the door of our w/e pet sit at Bow of Fife to SW. (ship bell in garden from crow's nest of SS Leviathan 1924 ! -then the largest ship in world - a contentious claim). Tracks all way -crop fields on flat then, on steeper slopes, cattle which charged worryingly up to the 2 dogs the charged away again - we were ready to drop their leads. From summit the Quaker Oats factory visible - we had pulled in to buy a sackful but no luck! Tower unsigned but commemorates Earl John Hope who fought / commanded in a string of battles in early 1800s against the French and Spanish in Egypt (e.g. Battle of Alexandria 1801- where an exquisite scaled map was produced on the eve of battle showing the plan! -shown on wiki) There is also a statue of Hope on a horse in Edinburgh's St Andrews' Square -where in June 2020 a plaque was officially added to reflect and highlight the continuation of the slave trade that Hope had been responsible for whilst serving there. | Chris Pearson | 15/08/2020 |
Cycled from Cupar, then along tracks from road at SE. With JAS. | kdbennett | 12/04/2020 |
Parked on the bend next to the tree. 200 yds back to the start of the public footpath to the monument. With Rosie and Brodie. Muddy despite the fact no rain for a while. | Longwojo | 24/01/2020 |
Second visit, with Marian and John | Colin Crawford | 15/12/2019 |
On paths from The Mount. | Winterfloodian | 28/08/2019 |
I parked just inside the field, to the side of the track, NO338158. Up track to The Mount, following SRoWS signs to the Monument along subsequent flooded tracks which doubled as streams. At sharp R bend, with rusty old gate ahead, there were no useful signs - guessed it was through wooden gate on L as there was no sight of a monument - after 50m, tower loomed out of the mist - guess was correct. No view in the horizontal rain. | Isbjorn | 24/06/2019 |
With f. From track/road junction at NO338158 | Danmawr | 12/05/2019 |
From Cupar along the country roads to the south. | Windy Corner | 13/04/2019 |
Climbed with Elaine on glorious spring day. Got to the very top of Hopeton Monument. | Skerryvore | 26/03/2019 |
4of4: From Mount Farm. F/p sign at 339159 | ChrisR | 24/10/2018 |
Parked opposite Mount Farm cottages and followed the signed track to the Hopetoun Monument and trig. A pleasant summer evening stroll. | Nick Down1 | 29/06/2018 |
From south - signposted route. | BLACKHILL | 23/03/2018 |
With Brian R. on a cold, windy winters day. Still no view. | Play2End | 13/01/2018 |
By waymarked route on way up to Forfar for Christmas with my sister. Drizzle. | SS | 25/12/2017 |
Something of a disappointment given its prominence. Muddy track, no interpretation, forestry works. The people of Cupar who built it will be spinning in their collective graves. | summitter | 25/11/2017 |
The usual route via the signed track. Snuck in and parked in the field entrance alongside the track. The track winds around a bit up the hill, eventually arriving at the somewhat hideous monument. A bit of a smoky walk, due to chaps burning stuff after tree harvesting operations. | Gill | 09/11/2017 |
By signed route from the S. | Chris Peart | 25/10/2017 |
Great walk up to trig, fully pathed all the way up. Once up there there is the Hopetoun monument which is quite spectacular | thejackrustles | 05/04/2017 |
2nd Ma of 4 today. From the Mount, to the tower, walking on the tracks round the hill as the 'official route' was messy with tree felling. Gate in deer fence gave access to summit. Between showers- very clear away from the showers. | pwheeler | 21/03/2017 |
With MN route etc as kdbennett. Path muddy due to forestry work. Interesting monument | trimarc2 | 08/12/2016 |
Signposted from road at SE. Summit enclosed by new deer fence, access by gate at W side | kdbennett | 27/11/2016 |
Marked route from the SE. The route is well marked unlike the monument that does not say what it is there for. Apparently it was erected to honour John Hope who was a hero in the Peninsular War. | clivevilla | 08/10/2016 |
Solo jog, from SE up the farm tracks as signposted. | amswanston | 04/09/2016 |
From SE up the farm tracks signposted, clear and dry on hill but lots of low cloud and rain to the west. | N.Morters | 12/08/2016 |
Up marked path from road to the SE. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/three-and-extra-one.html | Gayle | 28/05/2016 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 07/04/2016 |
Nice cut bench mark on south face of the tower. | ARM | 23/01/2016 |
Beautiful evening stroll in wintery weather. A nice sunset over the Lomond hills. Loads of pheasants. | jenx | 30/11/2015 |
With Jenx from south. Marked path all the way. 40 minutes round trip. Impressive monument, albeit raised by local serfs to honour their landlord. | nordicstar | 30/11/2015 |
2nd time. | russell61 | 24/04/2015 |
