From Cocklawfoot, up Auchope Rig, then to this P5 bump surrounded by a morass of peat and heather. Down Mallie Side on a good enough heathery ATV track becoming smooth and grassy lower down. Great views and a nice walk, even though the hill is ridiculous.Gill24/03/2024

Finished the England and Wales Historic County Tops and am now started on Scotland! Did the Cheviot from Harthope Valley and nipped over the border into Scotland.pclyndes02/06/2023
The Cheviot Group from Langleeford. A clockwise route around the dale head. Nice and dry peat underfoot, but still a big and tiring round, especially due to the bash through the heather out and back to new top for me, Great Standrop. The remainder all being revisits, Langlee Crags, Hedgehope Hill, Comb Fell, Cairn Hill, Cairn Hill West Top, Auchope Cairn, and finally back over the flagstones to The Cheviot. Windy but warm in the sun. 24km with 1300m ascent, taking me 7h 40m.silverwolf_alan27/05/2023

With E. From Langleeford, via Harthope Burn, Scotsman's Knowe, Cairn Hill, diverted to bag Cairn Hill West Top (Hangingstone Hill) and the featureless heather moor summit in Scotland, returning to Cairn Hill then continuing along Pennine Way to The Cheviot and our second historic county summit of the day back in England! Descended via The Cheviot North East Top and Scald Hill. Wide grassy path back down to Langleeford. No views as summits covered in low cloud.Beeliner03/05/2022

4 of 6: From Auchope Cairn. With Karen.ChrisR12/10/2021
On the first day of a long weekend visit to Haggerston Castle Caravan Park, Northumberland I headed back over the border for some of the Cheviot Hills. Starting at Cocklawfoot I went up Windy Gyle (619m) a Donald, with along a stone pitched path within the Northumberland National Park and up to Cairn Hill West Top (743m) a Donald Top, more a bump on the way up to The Cheviot, but classified as a hill, since it right on the border. By this point the overcast but dry weather had been replaced with mist and no visibility for the final ascent up a stone flagged path to the Cheviot (815m), a Marilyn. I then retraced my steps back to Cairn Hill West Top and then down Auchope Rigg, with a wee stop at the shelter, 07:10hrs all in.chillyman810/09/2021

From Mounthooly, with a College Valley permit. Took the bridleway up to the head of the valley, then up to the border ridge. Then east to the refuge hut, up steeply to the summit of Auchope, then onto Pt.743m on Cairn Hill and to the 777m summit. Then followed the flagstone trail to the summit of The Cheviot. Returned the same way, but descended on a track into the College Valley before the refuge hut. With ALT. 14.9km, with 650m of ascent.Man of Kernow115/06/2021

Then along the PW to Cairn Hill West Top, Cairn Hill, The Cheviot (Skiddaw visible from the summit), Auchope Cairn, Birnie Brae, The Schil (best peak of the day) and Black Hag. Then left PW to follow the ridge SW down to Sourhope visiting The Curr, Blackdean Curr (beware getting on the wrong side of the electric fence for the summit) and White Law. Back along the road to Cocklawfoot. 28km with 1250m ascent in 8h10m. (S)silveracorn_alan12/07/2020

From here return to Cairn Hill and head for The Cheviot.smocks and denims20/11/2019
Fourth top on a twelve mile walk starting from Harthope valley taking in two Dewey's and two county tops. The route was Broadhope hill, Preston hill, The Cheviot, Hangingstone hill and returning via Langleeford. I would not recommend this return in wet weather as it involves many crossing's of Harthope burn if done again I would return over Scald hill and then drop down to the tarmacked road.WAYNE ROWLETT18/11/2019

Solo from Cocklawfoot farm, along E/NNE track to stand of trees; mistakenly I left track by gate on R to walk parallel to Cheviot Burn through v wet ferns and up steeply on ferns and scree to gain ridge of Auchope Rig, contiuing, veering to R of Refuge Hut and up fence past Auchope Cairns and onto paved section of Pennine Way to reach path junction with Cheviot and Windy Gyle signposted. No marker found for CHWT, then returned down to Hut for lunch and back down Rig, keeping on fence to junction of 4 fences and thence onto track past tree stand and onto C farm - the route I should have used on outward walk ! Three showers fell but the forecast thunderstorms did not arrive, however boots were saturated by the ferns of the morning. First visit was also solo on 11/10/2015,making the circuit from Windy Gyle.jacobus11/07/2019
From arking area at end of road leading to Langleeford.Short walk up road to permisive path over Scald Hill to the Chevot. Then on to Cairn Hill with an out and back to Cairn Hill West Top and Auchope Cairn. Descent then to Harthope Burn then rough going up to Comb Fell in and out of ditches and ankle deep bog. Easier going down and up to Hedgehope Hill before descending back to car via a climb up Hosey Crags.mart079702/07/2019

From Cucklawfoot, where there's good space to park. Took the track past the forest and up onto Mallie Side on sheep tracks. Rough walking on indistinct vehicle track higher up until after the boundary fence where we picked up the Pennine Way. Not obvious until you stumble on it in the deep heather! Followed the Way over Cairn Hill W top, and descended past the refuge hut and down Auchope Rig. Pleasant circuit.LizH21/04/2019
