Logged Descriptions  (logged by 29 users)ByDate of Ascent
An obvious conical spoil heap overlooking a typical Welsh valley with rows of tightly packed terraced houses on its steep sides. The bing has pines on its slopes with a rutted firebreak section used by trail bikes. We ascended this to the level grass/ heather top with Welsh flag proudly fluttering in breeze. HP probably raised area at NW edge. Our last hill of the day; after Cefn Gwyngol trig.Denise 08/01/2023
Last of a great round of varied hills from St Gwynno forest car park. Cone of coal mining spoil with mature forest on sides. Ascent via the steep 'trials bike slope' Levelish summit area with Welsh flag streaming in the wind. Good views.RichardM08/01/2023
Parked at 02696 95727 and did a circuit of Tylorstown Tip, Cefn Gwyngul, Coed Cae Aberaman and Pan Craig Abercwmboi. Just under nine miles almost all on forestry tracks.clivevilla22/11/2022
From the parking area by the cattle grid, across the flat area then up the paths on the eastern face to the top, and around to the high point on the western rim a few metres north of the flag poleMariana Trench02/08/2020
From the cattle grid on the Ferndale road. Good views of the Rhonddha. Couple of young scramblers but plenty of room for all three of us.Campbell Singer17/08/2019
Circular walk from Llanwonno. Mainly good forest tracks/paths. Lots of felling/burning/new planting in area. Ddu Allt, Pen Craig Abercwmboi, Coed Cae Aberaman, Cefn Gwyngul & Tylorstown Tip.Arbie03/05/2019
From cattle grid, up one of the many trail bike tracks to the summit plateau, rewarded with good view across to Exmoor and Devon.PeterD05/08/2018
Up from the cattle grid to the NE. Now that's one big man made hill I guess. No scrambler bikes around today so it was nice and peaceful.Father Ted17/08/2017

From cattle grid to NNE. Thick hill fog, could see no hill until it loomed out when very close, I think it might look quite impressive. Lots of scrambler tracks all over it.jonglew17/01/2017

Not as bad as it sounds, walked up to the gate to the common at ST 02116 94998. Then made things abit difficult for myself by walking sheep trials to the base of the tip.The tip has a good amouint of plant cover although it is damaged by the attention of off roaders try to avoid weekends as they seem to be everwhere also some fly tipping from the near by road. Summit at ST 01938 95603 lovely views up the valley.hodder08/06/2013
