Carneddau one-way walk north to south with Dave. Parked Dave's car at Glan Dena on the A5 (SH 669 604) then in my car to Abergwyngregyn and the small carpark at SH 675 716. A day of two halves: before lunch it was sunny and breezy with clear views; but in the afternoon low cloud and squally rain blew in and the wind increased to 40mph gusting up to 50mph - arduous walking into the wind. Route was Drum, Foel Fras, Carnedd Gwenllian, Foel Grach, Carnedd Llewelyn, Carnedd Dafydd and Pen Y Ole Wen. Approx 12 miles with approx 4,000 feet ascent (at an average speed of 2mph). Started about 10.15; finished about 6pm, slowed by the wind.	Skip	16/02/2019

Scrambling on the Bera's fun. Walked solo. No nav difficulties but paths indistinct when not on main Carneddau ridge. Parked at CP north of Llyn Eigiau, went NW, N then SW along track towards Melynllyn. After nosing about in the old hone quarry I climbed steeply to the ESE to reach the top of Cefn Tal-llyn Eigiau to find the summit of 'Craig Eigiau'. From there I walked SW before following the wide 'ridge' turning NW to Foel Grach summit. From there continued NW to Garnedd Uchaf-Carnedd Gwenllian, then turned NE to Foel Fras summit. From there I deviated NW to bag Llwytmor before returning to the ridge to reach Drum and the impressive cairn Carnedd Penyborth Goch. I followed the ridge N to the even more impressive cairn on Carnedd y Ddelw. From there I re-traced my steps S to y Drum, turned SE along Foel Lwyd, bagged Pen y Castell before heading S through rough and boggy terrain, followed Afon Ddu SE, finally reaching a path back to the track leading to the Llyn Eigiau car park. Fifth summit of the day, and my Third Welsh 3000 footer on an epic traverse of the Carneddau from Llanfairfechan to Capel Curig. Weather is holding. Great views over to Yr Elen. My highest mountain climbed to date. (previous record was Aran Fawwddy @ 905m, followed by Foel-Fras today at 942m!) A simple down and up due South from Carnedd Gwenllian. LEFT PACK WITH JOYCE AND WENT OUT AND BACK TO PEN Y CASTELL ON GOOD PATH. CONTINUED ON TRACK TO FOEL FRAS AND DID THE SAME WITH LLWYTMOR. VERY STRONG WIND ON THE RIDGE. A purposeful and satisfying mountain walk as well as lots of new summits. This was not the first visit to the 3000-ers traversed today. With Rick, in full winter conditions. Set off from Ogwen and headed up towards Ffynnon Lloer and struck left to the Pen-yr ol-wen ridge to the top. Round corniced ridge to Carnedd Dafydd and on to Craig Llugwy along some spectacular crags. Along a narrow ridge and under Carnedd Llewellyn to Yr Elen. Dinner break. Backtracked and traversed across crags on North side of Carnedd Llewellyn. Icy. Then long plod to Foel Grach and back this time ascending Carnedd Llewellyn. Checked out by rescue helicopter which then went off to the Glyders. Descended deep snow to Craig yr Ysfa seeing two girls and young girl about 10 yrs old, fully kitted up and ascending. Among our Uni outdoor club the Welsh 3000ers was something of a holy grail on which I had designs for 3 years and several aborted attempts in bad weather. This time saw success.With Chris Wearne, walked up in evening and bivid in summit hut (adventurous but freezing just in clothes - no s bag to lessen load. Forgot tin opener -forced a tin of soup open on nail in roof - messy. Cold for 2 hours until we set off at 3 am (!) watching an orange sun rise out of the mist for a very long hot and hard day.
