From Stwlan via mine track. A nice route - better than the weather thats for sure. Arrived at summit at the same time as a snowy front. Minimal views today. 3rd visit- didnt log august 2014 visit it seems. With Dan. Returned to Tanygrisau via a rather boggy descent to the dam overspill.stig_nest24/02/2024

Parked at upper Tanygrisiau car park and took the lower SW footpath (faint at times) up towards the dam and around the upper cwm to Bwlch Stwlan. Clear ridge path out and back to Moelwyn Bach and along to Craigysgafn, Moelwyn Mawr and Moel yr hydd. Return to 566m bwlch and SE descent to tarmac road from power station. Hot but hazy half day walk, very dry underfoot. Solorichard6912/06/2023

Parked at croesor. With Dave, Phil and Nick. Dry with couple of showers. Descended to coll then followed incline below Moelwyn Fawr.alwaysinshorts01/10/2022
From Croesor wuith Nick, Phil and Charles. Ascended through the remnants of the wood on the road to Tan y Bwlch to the ridge. Showery with increasing wind from the south. Our plan was to descend to Bwhch Stwlan then go over Moelwyn Mawr baqck to Croesor but cloud cover, increasing wind speed and lack of fitness detrred us and we went W across mining inclines to the descent path and then down. Very pleasant at the Brondanw Arms.climbingkershaw01/10/2022

Moel-yr-hydd, Molwyn Mawr and Molwyn Bach circular walk from Tanygrisiau. If you follow the footpath on the OS map, its hard to find the path. I went upward scrambling, then finally got to the top and found an actual path. Then it was clear to the summit. From Moel-yr-Hydd, theres a clear path to Molwyn Mawr, a trig point at the top. I went along the ridge as its interesting. From Molwyn Mawr, theres nothing small about Molwyn Bach. You head down to the right and you have to cross two mounds to get the start of the path which is clear to the summit, its quite steep. I went over to some interesting stones and pools of water and then descended by the Tanygrisiau reservoir, which has a tarmac path all the way back to the car park.Skarletk26/02/2022

8 mile circular from minor road south of Croesor, walked down to Croesor then good path up side of Cwm Croesor to the ghostly Rhosydd quarry, from there followed footpath south and traversed grassy slopes onto Foel Ddu, then onto Moel-Yr-Hydd, from here we headed SW past the big quarrying hole and up steep grass slopes to Moelwyn Mawr, from here headed down steeply onto Craigysgafn, then interesting rocky descent down to Bwlch Stylan, up onto Moelwyn Bach then back down to car. Great weather with amazing views of every high peak in Snowdonia and all the way along Cardigan Bay, Moelwyn Mawr is probably my favourite view in Snowdonia, considering it was a sunny sunday there were only a few people about. Afterwards drove to and bagged Y Garnedd and Carreg Y Foel-Gron.DanTrig12/07/2020

This was a great walk. Not sunny but dry and cloud was generally quite high. Great view of Porthmadog and other tops. Loved the ruined quarry landscapes. Hard to comprehend how huge these quarries were and how many people they employ unless you actually go there and walk round. Started in Tanygrisia and up to Rhosydd Quarry, Moel-yrHydd, past the huge 'twll', North Ridge Top, Moelwyn Mawr,Craigysgafn, Moelwyn Bach, down to Croesor village, Cnicht, North Top and then back to the quarry via the col and down to Tanygrisia.tsharp10/09/2018

From layby on south side of Tanygrisiau. Solo. Through village and up the tarred track to Llyn Stwlan. I quite like taking unusual routes so went up Carreg Blaen-Llyn and then on a narrow path round the east and south sides of Moelwyn Bach before ascending easily to the summit cairn of Moelwyn Bach. Also went to rock 40m NE, which is as high. Continued to Craigysgafn and Moelwyn Mawr.pwbellarby09/04/2018

Solo. Wet and Windy. Cloud levels variable but fairly thick on summit. Navigation required a double check before setting off. Soon joined a path as the obvious line is followed. I made a mistake of leaving this path about 750 metres from the plantation and cutting down to the proper footpath. It was worse than what I had been on in that it did not really exist. Through the plantation was some of the worst of the day. I should have followed my instincts and the high ground all the way to the road but I don't like provoking farmers by ignoring Rights of way when they are close by.Aimless Rambler27/01/2016
From the west, parked at entrance to Pen yr Allt. Just enough room at cattle grid without causing a problem. Followed footpath up through edge of very damaged forest and out onto open hillside. First peak of the day, from Tanygrisiau. On the way up, passed two walkers by Llyn Stwlan with Ice Axes and poles, who'd decided they didn't fancy it. Ignored them, and bagged 7 that day!huwthomas26/12/2009

Start ~ 683452, Tanygrisiau. Followed the road up to the Stwlan dam before taking to the hillside to get to the col below Moelwyn Bach turning S to the summit. Then followed the main ridge N over Craisysgafn to Moelwyn Mawr. We then headed NE to Moel-yr-Hydd before returning to the col and heading down through rough ground back to the dam road.steve hudson18/07/1998

The ridge walk from Moelwyn Mawr to Moelwyn Bach makes 'The Moelwyns' a classic, going over the narrow, rocky Craigysgafn; interesting scenery at the col. Today I was heading for Llyn Stwlan so descended ESE then NNE down Carreg Blaen-Llym, a fine, broad mountain ridge.pwheeler12/09/1978

Great round of the Moelwyns. From the car park near the reservoir we headed to this top first. Great views of the Slate quarries of Blaenau. We once made a straight line ascent form Maentwrog through forests and open hill side - not a route I would recommend.ChinnockCblank
