From Manod up to quarry then manod mawr. Crossed quarry outside of work hours to north top. | Yr Eryr Aur | 05/04/2024 |
Parked at Gwynydd- newydd to north. Foel - fras first and then across moor to Manod Mawr. Slate workings everywhere. Huge quarry to south of summit. Completion of Cardigan Bay watershed Tumps. | Campbell Singer | 15/10/2023 |
12.65 miles 2937ft walk ,start at A470 Blaenau Ffestiniog layby to Moel Farwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras and Manod Mawr. | stephenbuda | 05/07/2023 |
Walked up from Blaenau, bit exciting using the quarry track to get to the top to the next one. The walk over to Penamnen is quiet boggy, but the old slate buildings are impressive. I didn't trust the footpath back down to BF would avoid the active quarry below so got a little lost on the tracks going down, but used arial view to find my way down. | andrewroberts | 26/06/2023 |
with K, included Manod Mawr | Fabioski | 02/01/2023 |
Blaenau Ffestiniog - Moel Penamnen - Foel-fras - Manod Mawr North Top - Blaenau Ffestiniog. Parked near the top of Lord Street. | Mark Jackson | 25/11/2022 |
From Blaenau Ffestiniog station on the way to Manod Mawr and Bach. | derrymark | 19/11/2022 |
Followed Nuttalls route 5.4. From Moel Penamnen follow the path along the ridge to Foel-Fras then follow the fence all the way to Manod Mawr North Top (expect it could be a bit boggy in parts after a wet spell). From the North top follow the fence down steeply until it reaches the point at which it is below the steep slate. Contour around to the quarry road, then turn right past a little pond to the public right of way. Follow this up nearly to its highest point where a path leads off to the left up to the summit of Manod Mawr. 9.2 mile 2,380ft climbing full circuit. | JulieB | 03/10/2022 |
From Chwarel Graig Ddu. Descent off spoil heaps to climb very steeply up western flanks. Lovely top. Spent rest of day exploring mining relics. With Dan. | stig_nest | 08/05/2022 |
7.5 mile walk from Bethania, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Up old quarry incline from town to old quarry ruins then following a path to Llyn Y Manod. We followed the odd sheep track up to Manod Bach. No proper path. Descended same way, then walked along path by lake and onto track diagonally up the side of Manod Mawr eventually heading across to summit. The quarry was unsurprisingly very active (it was a Monday)so we headed back down to the lake then incline following a path past Llyn Du Bach and climbing steeply on not bad terrain to Manod Mawr North Top. This involves a lot of descent/ascent but it completely avoids the working quarry. We retraced our steps back to town. 880m ascent in sunny conditions. Great views all around. Afterwards we drove to Foel Offrwm and the Precipice walk. | DanTrig | 25/04/2022 |
5/8 (Moel Farlwyd/Moel Pennamnen/Foel-fras/Y Ro Wen/Manod Mawr North Top/Manod Mawr/Manod Bach/Ffrid yr Allt-Llwyd) | Fergalh | 20/03/2022 |
From Bethania, a round of Manod Mawr, Manod Mawr North top and Moel Penamnen. All straightforward, was told by truck driver I should not be on the quarry track approaching last top but he was OK about it. Need to follow it for about 500 metres really to get to decent ground for ascent. Descent down steeply to south and on to quarry tracks to LLechwed quarry and the road. | dickscroop | 11/01/2022 |
658m | The Grouse | 25/11/2021 |
Moel Penamnen, Manod Mawr North Top, Manod Mawr. V diff in fog, navigating through the quarry. Follow the obvious quarry roads at the beginning, rhododendrons are impossible | Chris Williams | 03/09/2021 |
Walked up from the bottom of the incline at the back of Bethania, easy walking up to this summit.

Note, this mine is fully armed and operational as Emperor Palpatine once said. so there is no 'quick nip' between summits on nice level ground. Instead you have to follow the path down to Manod quarries that lies east of the main quarry pit. There is a signed path that cuts across the quarry road which isn't shown on the OS maps. | simocity | 13/08/2021 |

From Bethania following the incline and skirting the quarry northwards. | jrj | 26/09/2017 |
Descended into the mist and the white space on the map that is the disused quarry. Ended up skirting the western edge of the spoil heaps which towered above me in the mist. Steeply up the edge of spoil heaps to below the summit crags, then up a ravine between them and the spoil to gain the quarry edge. Descended same way, to the Llyn and then Manod Bach. | Minto | 11/06/2017 |

With Martin Roberts from Blaenau Ffestiniog taking in Moel Penamnen, Manod Mawr North Top & Manod Mawr. Rather grey overcast day. | knarf | 09/04/2017 |
Aproach from Manod Mawr, thought I could skirt round east side of Graig-Ddu Quarry but ended up nipping along access road to Manod Quarries for about 250m then followed fence to summit from the east. On west side of fence rock W of large cairn looked to be slightly higher. | mntainman | 11/10/2016 |
Did this walk on a Sunday. A good day because to get to Manod Mawr top I dropped on the quarry road and cross the bwlch on this. Strictly out of bounds but on a non working day a good way of getting across.

Lovely views from the top. | johnjennison | 02/10/2016 |

Clockwise circular round from Blaenau Ffestiniog. Garreg Ddu - Moel Farlwyd - Moel Penamnen - Foel Fras - Manod Mawr North Top - Manod Mawr - Manod Bach. The extremely large building in Maen-offeren Quarries is well worth a peek inside. It's like an industrial museum. The descent off Manod Mawr to the northern tip of Llyn y Manod is fairly ghastly! | David Gradwell | 11/08/2013 |
SO MUCH FINE WEATHER AT BALA THAT HAD TIME TO DO ONE OF THE LLANRWST BASED WALKS, NUTTALLS WALK 5.4. DROVE TO BLAENAU FFESTINIOG AND WALKED UP THROUGH QUARRY. TOP AND ROUND QUARRY TO MANOD MAWR. COULD'T FIND ROUTE OFF INCLINE SO HAD LONG WALK BACK THROUGH VILLAGE. | BURGESS | 11/08/2013 |
