From Cloesffynnon. Permission to park at nearby bungalow. Up windfarm track. Wave from farmer coming down in Landrover.JGC19/03/2024
I could not see anywhere to park, responsibly, at Cloesffynnon. The farmer at Rhiw-felen allowed me to park (with some wheel spinning) on his lane SO007804. Returned to Cloesffynnon and up WF tx to Pegwn Mawr trig. On compass bearing in 10m viz for Crugyn LLwyd, through shed loads of toody blussocks and bog. Of course, once I had reached the summit, I found fair tx back to Hirddywel. Tried to follow the RoW, W, then NW, to Rhiw-felen, but ill-defined, and no waymarkers. Ended up off-RoW on extremely steep, slippery, grass. Would have been better to go anti-clockwiseIsbjorn04/02/2024
Windfarm again, parked at gate and car park near Bryn Dadlau (to the NE). Easy walk again.iangalbraith13/08/2023
Parked at road junction just before cloesffynnon, although there was also space at turn off to Rhiw-felen. Up BW to gate onto access land and up to Crugyn Llwyd. Helped by dry conditions underfoot. Easy going at first across the a bit rougher til reached first turbine. Trig first then Summit cairn. Both a bit of a mess. Back down wing farm track to Cloesffynnon.PeterD07/07/2023
Continued on the Crugyn LlywdAdrian218/03/2023
Parked at the junction of the road to Trinnant. Up the ROW then along a fence line to Crugyn Llwyd. Then across moor and wind farm track to Pegwn Mawr. Track back to the van.summitter28/11/2022
Cycle loop of 4 Marilyns while staying at Rhayader.davechaffey07/09/2022
A long walk around the Pegwn Mawr ridge. Parked at the entrance to the Bronde-fawr forest (SO 047 767). Headed north visiting Brondre-fawr Hill, then following bridleways via Banc Du to the wood at Garn Fach. Headed up onto the main ridge and the wind farm at Galfeinion Hill, north along to the trig Yr Allt West Top. Back tracking to Glanfeinion Hill, and quickly along the wind farm tracks to the cairn and trig at Pegwn Mawr. Crossing rough country to Crugyn Llwyd and the tumulus at Domen-ddu. Back along the forest road, and across the valley via Brondre Fach and Brondre Fawr, finally up through the last forest to the car. Misty with drizzle on and off, so poor views. A total of 35km with nearly 900m ascent, taking 9h 30m.silverwolf_alan30/07/2022
Parked in lay-by just east of Felin.Stevooo17/06/2022
From approx 047 816 across various up&down tracks. Better route down east and pushing through a small bit of forest, not too dense, to reach track back to carvegibagger04/06/2022
Parked at junction of road to Rhiw-felen ( SO 0077 8047 ). ( we did Crugyn Llwyd first ). Boggy & hummocky crossing to Pegwn Mawr. Fine viewpoint, with Snowdon visible.DanMaisieBex26/02/2022
08:30, 1 degree (6 later), summit in mist but rising to give a day of sunny spells with light southerlies. Easy ascent from lane SW of Cloesffynnon. Four wind turbines on motor power, the rest idle. One turbine shut down then started up again.Wycombe Wanderer18/01/2022
Parked as per Ronaldo333 and followed the track up to the ridge. Far reaching views.Peterb16/10/2021
From road junction shortly before Cloesffynnon. Can squeeze a car in at the side of the road on the junction. Walked up through farm and followed good track most of the way to summit. A couple of grassy fields takes you to the trig. All gates unlocked. KeithByTheC04/10/2021
Park plantation entrance so 04647677 tracks north to brondre fawr then cross country via banc gwyn, north west to pegwyn mawr, crugyn lwyd avoiding wet ground, then south to domen ddu return by contouring cwmderw and cross at faullt and back on to tracks at fowlers armchair cairnunderhill14/12/2020

From Y Foel. A steep climb up bracken to pt479 and the broad ridge, followed by the road to the top. Down to Cloesffynnon farm on nice farm track.Alan Moore10/10/2018

Marilyn Walk 113: Ascent of Pegwn Mawr from Cloesffynnon at SO 806 805 via wind farm access track. Bright and sunny, splendid all round views from the summit. 5km taking just over an hour up and down.silveracorn_alan13/08/2018
Parked at the Community Centre SO 001817 and went down the hill then up the hill via the ROW's up onto Graig then across to the cairn. Bagged the trig as well. Very Hot and steep. Returned same route with elizyanneGmacT19/07/2018
Oh the down before the long up is pretty but you know it will be an up on your return! It felt like a long slog probably because of the heat.elizyanne19/07/2018
A pleasant walk from Cloesffynnon farm, up the main track. The farmer very kindly offered me a parking place in the farmyard, and was very relaxed about the prospect of a trespass up the track. Great conversation with him when I got back, about sheep and wind farms.Gill15/02/2018
Parked at road end north of Cloesffynnon and walked to the highest point on the wind farm. Operated ham radio from summit for SOTA.G4OBK (Phil)12/01/2018
With W, parked at end of minor road N of Cloesffynnon and ascended via tracks. Rather murky day but some nice views looking towards Llanidloes.steve_a02/06/2017
Easy parking on road corner by community centre to W. Up and down on good tracks.rhalstead29/05/2017
Drove along roads signposted Wind Farm to Bryn Dadlau then run to summit and back. Sunshine and cloud, light winds, views from Brecon Beacons to Cader Idris, as for the last 3 days. I took a map, but if you follow signs to high number L turbines, they take you to the summit which is obvious from over a mile away. Good surface on tracks all the way, some gates locked but easy to negotiate. Just over an hour made this hill surprisingly enjoyable but I think I would have got fed up with it if I'd done it at walking pace.pwheeler02/05/2017
Also parked at farm to SW there the sheep were in the midst of giving birth. Waled up to the windfarm along the footpaths and then along the plateau through the windfarm. It would have been fine except one of them needed oiling.Father Ted24/03/2017
with Alastair and Sarah. Asked permission at Cloesffynnon farm and parked at the end of the tarmac just to the side of the road. Easy ascent of the wind farm access track to trig point for SOTA activation in the fog.M0YDH17/12/2016

#593 - 4th of the day. Parked at 00914 80906 and took track up to another windfarm.tim74709/06/2016
With Trefor. 4th Marilyn today. Caught in another heavy snow/hail shower, the story of today. Parked at fork in road above Felin Gythos. Followed wind farm access road to near summit. Great viewpoint and interesting to see the wind farm.mike.hoult29/04/2016
Easy ascent up wind farm track.Lionel Bidwell03/04/2016
Parked on side of road SO0032580387 followed farm tracks on right of ways until near summit which is large cairn with gnarled tree truck sticking out & a nearby trig point. Back at car had a chat with nice farmer who having seen maps was concerned more wind turbines were being planned. Spoils the scenery - he spoke with much wisdom.CodyleCoyote22/03/2016
Parked at 006805 and followed the track to the wind farm and trig point. Continued on and descended the bridleway back to road head, although this hasn't seen any use for a while. A pleasant evening stroll (assuming you don't get worked up about the wind farm) but recommended on a windless day, as the turbines are noisy.mindlessflogger19/06/2015
With: hb; Ascent from road end at SO009808 on access track to summit. Two Radio Hams were huddled around the summit in the persistant rain. We left them to it.Ian Baines12/03/2015

Final Marilyn of the tour w Jenx. Up the track from farm as described by others to the turbine cluster. Trig has a ghostly feel and is in the process of dis-assembling itself in the grim location, not helped by swirling mist and the turbine din. Bearings sound on the way out. Cairn still has the stump, like the hill in general.nordicstar14/12/2014
A steady climb from the west, making good use of the access track to the wind farm. (PM,CM)gerrybowes27/10/2014
