Parked near road end to east as per AS. Followed path then up through Bracken on a trodden route to the trig. Across to HP with an interesting cairn. Came back down to the SE to pick up the sloping traverse path. Then across to Drum Ddu.PeterD07/07/2023
Parked at end of road near Ty-segur-uchaf. Good grassy rising traverse round the south of the hill and onto easy plateau. Tried a steeper descent due south. Not worth it. With Jemma and sandra.Campbell Singer24/06/2023
With Dad and Sandra. Should have avoided the steep descent and taken the route up via rising traverse. Lesson is that I should always listen to my Dad.Jemma Singer24/06/2023
afternoon from Llanwrthwlsenrab11/02/2022
From Elan Oaks campsite to track on east side of resevoir then up past Ty'n-y-pant to Nant y Postau then followed track to summit. Returned same way.dgresty20/11/2021
From car park at end of Caban Coch reservoir, up track in Marchant valley, cutting up to the good miners' path at a slightly higher level and then easily off path to ridge near the small lake. Then East to Y Gamriw following boundary posts, back along ridge to Gorllwyn continuing further west to pick up the path/track back to start.dickscroop25/09/2021
On backpacking trip from Elan village. Day 1 to Afon Rhiwnant. Day 2 back via side of reservoirbenwloudon20/06/2021
Part of a round from the roadhead at SN 9578 6145 ( parking for 1-2 cars ), taking in Drum Ddu & Gorllwyn. Fine views, nice early evening finish to the day.DanMaisieBex04/06/2021

From parking at west end of Caban Coch. Up Marchnant valley. Gorllwyn and Y Gamriw. Then down by indistinct way marked path. All interesting walking. With B and R.jenx18/09/2020
Parked at road end to south. Track, then direct across tussocky ground. A sheep track just right of a shallow gully gets you up the steep bit, between trig and summit. Visited both - impressive cairn.PGCE12/08/2020
Y Gamriw and Drum Ddu from the end of the minor road up from Llanwrthwl. Visited trig and cairn at HP. Best parking is about 300m before the end of the public road, long passing place with room for a car. 11km with 400m ascent in 2h 30m. (S)silveracorn_alan02/08/2020
Approached from Gorllwyn, absolute stunner of a location, superb hollow cairn at summit.richardrosser11/03/2020
from cp SN901616, then on to Gorllwynunderhill08/09/2019
Parked on the bridge just below the 281 spot height at Abernefal to the SE of Gorllwyn. Ascended via Gorllwyn keeping to the dry ground between the two tops. Also Drum Ddu on a sunny day.garyhoney05/05/2019
first of two tops from parking outside church in Llanwrthwl, up the road and onto the bridleway between the two tops then onto Drum Ddu. 9.7 miles in three and three quarter hours.WAYNE ROWLETT14/04/2019
Up and down from the track, SW, avoiding bracken on trod to the E that contours up to the trig. Not so many of us continue on to the summit. Easy enough for a 2,000'.Eddie01/10/2018
I was going to do the round of Y Gamriw & Drum Ddu from the N but after Y Garth it seemed more logical to contine along the road to Gors-wen (easy parking). I made the mistake of heading directly to Y Gamriw across what turned out to be rough tussocky moorland but it was easier from the steeper slope. From Drum Ddu I followed the ridge WSW, dropping down to the S end of the wooded area where you could cross the Nant Hafen and climb up by the fence. The 5.45 miles took 2 hrs 35 mins.Jim.Fothergill24/09/2018
Y Gamriw - Gorllwyn - Drygawn Fawr. Started from the CP at SN900616. Used the bridleway until about SN914618 and from there followed a compass baring to the summit of Y Gamriw. This was quite easy going and it took about an hour and five minutes to cover the 5.3km. A welcome wind shelter and roofless hut at the summit as the wind was blowing and the rain began just as I arrived. Then off to do the two Nuttalls.Herbert Anchovy28/07/2018
Did the Llanwrthwl Horseshoe Walk on the NT website, bagging Trembyd, Drum Ddu, and Y Gamriw in the process. Be wary when using this route, because the vagaries of the walk description can lead to mistakes, particularly in the absence of well defined paths and hundreds of sheep tracks, you can quickly end up on rough moorland. However, some fantastic panoramas. Walked this on a sunny day, and the Beacons were clearly visible.RyParks03/06/2018
Parked about half a mile before the end of the road to the east. Took the track and then steeply up the open hill to the trig and then the summit. Walk continued to Drum Ddu. With JT.Sprog30/05/2018
From top of road east of Y Gamriw summit. Room for one car on verge. Y Gamriw, Drum Ddu. Mostly good paths.ijpowell26/05/2018
Like Neolith, parked up just before the end of the road to Erwllwyn on a solid bit of verge at SN 959614. Walked up the track to the junction, then up to Drum Ddu, back down and up to Gamrhiw via Rhiw Saeson. We continued along the ridge to the cairn at SN 956620- an excellent section, before picking our way down to sheep tracks that slanted back to the road end. Sunny, warm, quite hazy but the Brecon Beacons could just be picked out. With brother, Petepwheeler07/05/2018
18.3 miles, 2794ft, Y-Gamriw and Wye Valley Walk.stephenbuda08/10/2017
Parked up just before the end of the road to the NW off the road on a solid bit of verge. Walked up the track to the junction, then up to Drum Ddu, back down and up to Gamrhiw via the Saith Maen stones which were partially grown over.Neolith26/08/2017
Parked at end of road to east. Very limited parking. Splendid cairn & shelter.ngthack19/07/2017
From Llanwrthwl (parked at church) by Dol-lago farm and then followed track to ridge where a path ran almost to the summit of Y Gamriw. Took in trig point on way. Then down good row path over to Drum Dhu descending by Rhiw Llanwrthwl then through field and woods to road.SS12/11/2016

Parked at 957615 with GB. Followed path to the south of the summit then a steep climb to the true top. Also combined with Drum Ddu.bolton05/04/2016
Parked tightly in junction with farm track at end of road at SN95811 61465 – SW along track & then RoW before heading up steep slope to trig point – A short walk to the ancient summit cairn & excellent shelter. Continued to Drum Ddu. (PM)gerrybowes05/04/2016
Parked at same place as I used for Drum Ddu and up road and track. Branched off right on obvious quod bike track to start of Rhiw Saeson. Walked up to remains of a wall and turned to right. Bits and pieces of paths lead to summit. Descent was down the broad ridge leading to Dol lago. Turned right again at another large cairn and dropped down to car. Steep with a band of gorse to get through and then a load of bracken. Not a bad walk but I'd look for a different descent from the cairn.MikeM23/01/2016
From Blaenglynolwyn, Drum Ddu first then on to here for a 7 mile circular walk. Large sprawling summit cairn.jonglew13/10/2015
Pleasent ascent of NE ridge from the peaceful and friendly Doliago farm campsite, Llanwrthwl. Large Neolithic? cairn with central stone shelter. Excellent views. Blue skies, scattered cumulus, hot sunshine.RichardM08/08/2015
With Drum Ddu from end of lane to east. The summit shelter looks like a burial chamber to me. Why would anybody build such a complex wind shelter. It looks like it had a roof and another ring of stones around the outside.clivevilla20/08/2014
Parked OK but a bit awkward at end of road to east. Track then bits and pieces but OK.destaylor24/07/2014
Straight up the steep side to the trig. Not recommended. Great views all around.simon and co09/05/2014
after Drum Ddu, from Newbridge & Blaenglynolwen.dicky19/04/2014
Climbed from roadhead above Llanwrthwl and combined with Drum DduChris Peart11/10/2013
Started at SN958615 where there is room to turn but only space to park one car without blocking the farmer's quad bike access. GR8 walk on a frosty sunny morning with Phil Cooper. Lovely views all around today. Deep summit shelter with narrow access out of the prevailing wind. Then back to col to use quad tracks to continue to Drum Ddu.Dugswell218/11/2012
Parked at Ty Bach Forestry on the minor road to the south. Too much ice on road to drive further. Walked to the end of the road and continued to the spot marked by standing stone on map. No stone to be seen. Then up to the TP via high point.Dusty11/02/2012
