Second time 12.45 ish great walk with Michael Pearce, along Helm Crag ridge, up the Howitzer and along to Calf Crag then back down the valleyvegibagger29/11/2019
Easy stroll along the ridge from Gibson Knot. The top of the Howitzer seems out of reach, but the Lion and the Lamb arrangement at the other end of the summit is easily scrambled up. Simple descent to Grasmere along a well-trodden path.CPowles29/10/2019
Set off at 5am planning to walk in Great Langdale, saw a stunning dear in the road before getting there then changed our minds to St Sundays crag so drove to Glenrididng before changing our minds again and settling on Helm crag again to get Bec up the Howitzer. So back to Grasmere and off we went down the Easedale road route. Made our way to the top without much fuss although was really injured and Bec not feeling great. We had the summit to ourselves but again Bec struggled and didnt get to the top. we will be back and possible take ropes and practise 1st indoors. We got home after randomly seeing my mum and mark driving on the M6 and chilled watching homeland man u v Liverpool and more homelandlovely kid free Sunday.Scotty 2 Hotty20/10/2019

Having swapped kids weekend kind of so we could sneak this walk in before picking them up at 4pm we set off early because of a wedding on the 10th Nov. Once again fuelled by a Mcdonalds at 4:30am we parked up in Grasmere about 5:45 and set off down Easedale road. On the way in the pitch black we saw a deer staring right back at me in the street. We carried on through the gardens turning right into the woods. Head torches on and started to climb. Was cold but easy going before views of Grasmere appeared and the sun started to rise. We got to the top in what felt like no time at all. Standing on the Lion from the lion of the lamb taking stunning pictures as it got lighter by the second but then we saw the true summit. The Howitzer. At this point wind was blowing a gale 30 40mph plus winds in Baltic conditions. I climbed to the top got all my pictures and slid down to shelter from the cold. Bec sadly could get up to the top of the Howitzer for a combination of reasons from the weather to Scotty 2 Hotty27/10/2018

Climbed helm crag also known as lion and lamb as it looks like them on the top in stone, with my boyfriend lee, such a nice easy walk from the back side of the small fell/mountain at height of 405m,Only took me around 45mins to summit, beautiful views at another end of the summit look over to Rydal and also Grasmere water. Struggled coming back down the front of the mountain as been suffering for heart problems and first time back on mountains since.Jade513/04/2014
Continuation of round of Greenburn fells from Gibson Knott. Examined summit tor carefully. Seems easiest by a crack on the north side - a rope and sling, dry rock, and right company, should ensure a future success.Man of Kernow104/04/2014

Last hill of the Greenburn Horseshoe. The wind really got up and rain seriously threatened. Didn't attempt the Howitzer and unfortunately the weather meant I didn't spend as much time exploring the top as I would have liked. Very steep but obvious path down to Grasmere. Been up this summit with nearly all my walking friends and family - first ascent 1974. Best weather today; very clear, sunshine/light clouds/snow outlining the gullies. It's too easy to save the Greenburn Horseshoe for those usable days with a 2000 ft cloud base but this was glorious and very rewarding on one of the nicest days I've ever been out in the Lake District. Undoubtedly a scramble to get to the very summit, I once saw a 5-year old roped up for the (for him) rock climb; must have been great fun.pwheeler05/04/2000
