sunrise walk over striding Edge to Helvellynjmistry8629/06/2018
It was an early start from Glenridding. I parked for £3 in the Sports field and headed up the lane, before turning left to the path up to Birks. There were still Bluebells out and the views down to Ullswater were superb as there was a thin layer of mist in the valley. It was a slog to the summit of Birks before it became easier to St Sunday Crag. Nice to have it to myself on this summit and the views were stunning. I descended to Deepdale Hause and cut around Grisedale Tarn to the steep climb to Seat Sandal. The views West were great in the soft rather misty light all the main peaks were a dark silhouette against the milky sky. I headed north and straight up the wall to the cairn at the edge of the cliffs on Dollywaggon Pike. It was then an easy walk over Nethermost Pike and on to the summit of Helvellyn where I had 5 minutes on my own. I continued along Striding Edge which was much easier than I imagined with no difficulties to the summit of High Spying How.isabelle01/06/2018

11.8 mile walk in very hot and sunny weather from Patterdale hotel car park (Cheaper then excessive Glenridding car park), walked along road into Grisedale and took path up hillside to Hole-in-the-wall, out and back to Birkhouse Moor, onto Striding Edge bagging High Spying How (small scramble to summit), down little trail to beautiful Red Tarn, up path to Swirral Edge turning back to Catstye Cam, down terribly lose path east from summit, and onto main path descending to near the Youth Hostel west of Glenridding, slogged in heat up Sticks Pass path then turned back following little trails to Sheffield Pike, then along neat little trail down to col, easily bagged Glenridding Dodd, descended to Glenridding and back along paths by road to Patterdale, great end to lovely 3 days in the Lake District bagging 22 hills and mountains.DanTrig19/06/2017

Classic route up Helvellyn from Glenridding via Birkhouse Moor, High Spying How, Striding Edge. After summit visited Lower Man. Return to Glenridding via Swirral Edge, Catstye Cam, Red Tarn Beck and Glenridding Beck. Climbed solo. Beautiful sunny day, 16 degrees. 5 hours. Quite busy, especially on Striding Edge. 10 yr anniversary of the avalanche. Took Chris and Liam up and met Rick and Mike. Set off from Greenside Youth Hostel and set off up to Red Tarn, cut up onto Striding Edge and on to Helvellyn. Good snowy conditions and good pics of Nethermost Gully, got a small cornice on it. Walked along top and looked down the gully and then on to Nethermost Pike, High Crag and Dollywagon Pike and the long slog down Grisedale and back round to Greenside. Long day out, great conditions.Mark T19/02/2005

Down off Helvellyn the grip on the rocks was good and for someone who doesn't like heights I actually enjoyed the walk and scramble. The views from the top were good especially back along the ridge.garyhoney28/06/2002
I assume I went to the top on this occasion - I certainly have on subsequent trips. It's a pity nobody ever thinks of this as a separate summit because it's almost a Hewitt and the view is fantastic.Mark Jackson06/06/2002

Roger 12, Robert, Peter, Ian and Mummy. May 29th. Low cloud on Windermere promises a good day so we head for Patterdale and Shepherds Gate for Striding Edge - 2hrs steady climb to the gate. Not an attractive ascent for children. No problems on Striding Edge apart from too many people - the boys obviously enjoyed it although Peter wasn't happy on the loose stones on the final steep ascent onto Helvelyn. Beautifully clear from the top. Descent via Squirrel edge and the ridge down to Patterdale - a much better route than the ascent with lovely views down Ullswater.
