Overcast, humid day. Started at Threlked, Wainwright group joining local geological society. Very tough climb,luckily visibility gradually improved, so fantastic views towards Bassenthwaite and Keswick. 3 hours to reach summit - had photo- shoot for magazine then a slippery descent to the old coach road.Fascinating detour around machinery quarry/vintage railway and remains of stone age village. Clough Head walk- Parked at Wanthwaite Farm, walked to Hill Top Farm, Birkett Bank, Threlkeld Knotts, Old Coach Road, White Pike and to the top of Clough Head. Retraced our steps back to the car. Up wide track from farm to the west. Two guys from Fanfoss near Pocklington, east Yorkshire started and time, carrying paragliding equipping on their backs. Bear in mind it's late Nov and a light breeze, half way up, and striding down the track towards us was a middle aged guy naked rambler, boots, small rucksack but nowt else. W stopped and chatted for a bit. Aparently, recently there's been an upsurge of people doing this. Told him about my occasional visits to naturist beaches and clubs. With Samuel Healing, good clear views but slightly overcast with occasional grey cloud and attempt at hail/ snow. Parked at Threlkeld Bridge and walked from there along railway path and then up via Birkett Beck onto the fell, skirted along bottom past the quarry to get onto the path from Wanthwaite Farm up to the Red Screes path. Really enjoyed this route. Hugged the trig pillar and then had lunch just off the top out of the wind. Then continued onto Calfhow Pike and back down via Rowantree Beck to the old coach road and back round to Birkett Beck and the railway path. Sam lost his watch about halfway through the walk but found it again the next day. Strava stopped tracking for me sometime up Red Screes and then I restarted it at Calfhow Pike and it drew a straight line between the two points. So it looks like we didn't summit Clough Head but I have a photo of me hugging the trig as proof.	Ruth Mackay	01/05/2021

FINALLY, lockdown restrictions lifted just enough for us to Travel. Covid 19 has been a nightmare in completing these 214. having dropped Myla off at James's and Jack still in bed we head for round 2 with Clough head after dangerously failing last summer on Fisher Wifes rake. no issues this time taking the safe route up and down the old corpse road down. we stopped and had bacon butties and beer/prosecco as a treat for Bec getting to 200. stopped at Tebay on the way home. 2/8 (Revisit) Used Birkett route up to Threlkeld Knotts and on to Clough Head (cracking route) then dropped down to White Pike, contoured right round to Calfhow Pike on good sheep trods, then passed Little Dodd to reach Great Dodd, and dropped down wet bridleway to Randerside and Matterdale Common, down to the Old Coach Road, and right to road at High Row, to pick up track into woods and summit Cockley Moor using the track right round the top of the hill (easy over cut trees), return to St Johns all the way on the Old Coach Road. Dropped off at Dockray, headed up to Birkett Fell via Watermillock Common to Hart Side (193). Stybarrow Dodd, Watson Dodd, took the terrace to the west of Great Dodd given the strength of the wind. Calfhow Pike up to Clough Head (194). Dropped down to the old coach road via White Pike, finishing up at the Threlkeld Mining Museum. Blustery NE winds with occasional heavy rain and low visibility. A fantastic day running Leg 2 of the Bob Graham with Brett and Mark. Cloudy throughout the day, with soft snow and some ice on the tops, visibility very poor, but not bad enough to need to take bearings. One missed top (Watson�s Dodd) so had to recip. Very tough section, out and back to Fairfield, wanted to give up! Jonesy ran out of water but decided not to mention this to us. 5hrs 41minutes for the leg, with a distance of 15.5 miles so not in the right ball park to take on the full challenge...yet. I set out from High Row at 6am in gorgeous sunshine. The midges were out though! After a navigational cockup I climbed High Brow from the South, which was a great viewpoint. The summits were clear of the valley inversion that was gradually rising. It was easy enough getting to Great Dodd. I visited all the high points before heading to a misty Calfhow Pike and a foggy Clough Head marked by the trig point. From the summit I headed East down grassy slopes to the Old Coach Road and the car. I saw nobody else on the hill. I saw plenty of Skylarks and Meadow Pipits along with a pair of Magpies and a vocal Dipper. A Vole was seen near Clough Heads summit shooting into his hole. Up Fisher's Wife's Rake. At the entrance to the gully there must be a buzzards nest as I was dive bombed by two aggitated buzzards as I approached. They make quite a whooshing noise as they pass over your head. I took a wide birth and took the gully on the right which was very steep. Once up I took in a couple of Birketts, Calfhow Pike and Little Dodd, then back to Clough Head. Located the path down through the crags to Threlkeld Knotts and back down to the car. On a round of 8 hills from NT car park at Legburthwaite (£7 for the day, machine broke otherwise would not have parked here): Stybarrow Dodd, Watson's Dodd, Great Dodd, Randerside, Little Dodd, Calfhow Pike, Clough Head and finally White Pike. Ascended ridge via Stanah Gill to Sticks Pass then headed north. A fine hill with a lovely profile viewed from anywhere N of it. Start ~ Penrith. Bus to Glenridding then took the track to Greenside mine before climbing Greenside itself to get to Hart Side. Returned over Greenside summit and then up to Stybarrow Dodd. From there we moved on to Great Dodd, Little Dodd and Calfhow Pike before finally climbing Clough Head. We descended over Threlkeld Common to Rigghead and Guardhouse before taking the path up to Scales to get the bus back to Penrith. RRWC Walk.	steve hudson	17/06/2005
