| From car park approx 023317. Cycle (push uphill) to Allt Hallater 2hours50. Up E ridge on leg swallowing ground under long grass/slippery crags 60mph winds at summit. | A long way from anywhere. Up the hideous hydro track past Coileitir (now abandoned) and pipeline scar (planning conditions anyone?), then the path along Allt nam Meirleach (ruined by Munro buggering), down to Allt Hallater and up the hill at Bealach Cumhann, steep rough grass then easy strolling on granite slabs once on the wide ridge. Back the same way, bad weather coming in, torrential rain for a while, then alternating showers of rain and midges. A lot of effort for a sprawling pock-marked pancake of a hill, looking squat and toad-like amongst the magnificent hills all around. | Gill | 28/07/2022 |
| I decided to tackle this one from Glen Etive. I still had the lower south top of Ben Starav to bag as it hadn't been a munro top when I was last up there. Came up over Ben Starav and over the south tops then out to Beinn nan Lus. The top was quite a nice spot, views from top were quite good for being a lowly Graham surrounded by the high peaks of Etive and Cruachan.From there it was an 8 mile hike back north following the Alt Hallater river to the 766mm bealach between Starav and GBM. | First Coronavirus self-isolating day so decided to go up the most remote hill I could find near(ish) to home. Didn't count on the ongoing hydro works and workers that have essentially made much of the cycle route a building site, but anyway, parked at the hydro scheme car park and took the track along Loch Etive and into Glen Kinglass - made a bit quicker by a new track south of the river. Took 1hr 15 mins to cycle to Allt Hallater on my new e-bike, from where the walk began. A series of heather, snow and rocky false tops along the east flank of Beinn nan Lus eventually end in a well cairned summit, then its a straightforward scamper around its west and north tops before descending to Bealach Cumhann then alongside the Allt Hallater back to the bike. | 200th Graham. Route as per the SMC Grahams and Donalds book, cycles to Allt Hallater. Parked in the smokery/ CP car park, however there is a car park as I discovered a little way up the track to save 0.5km each way and more usefully a few metres climbing on the bike. Found a bit of a path/ animal tracks up the ridge. For August wasn't too bad vegetation wise. GPS measured route as 20km cycle in with 400m of climbing (up and down around 3 headlands then 70m up Glen Luss, 6km walk and then repeat cycle. Cycle seemed harder coming back. Track is very good all of the way, lots of hydro works going on. Cycled on the old track up the North side of the river along Glen Kinglass but there is another track under construction on the South side to the first bridge however it isn't quite completed yet. Took me 9.5hrs round trip, GPS said 8hrs moving time. Good but tough day out. The hill was the easy bit. | JulieB | 25/08/2019 |
| From CP above Inverawe, cycled up to Narrachan, then ascended the ridge above the west bank of the Allt as far as its division at 1068 3763, then turned right onto main west ridge. Back the same way per advice here from nordicstar. There is almost as much uphill climbing in and out on the tracks as on the hill itself. Still, I reached Narrachan in less than 90 minutes, I think the tracks are being improved for upcoming hydro developments. | Topographer57 | 22/06/2019 |

| Beinn nan Lus (NN 125371) S/F NN 011327 5 days for 1 hill, getting on a bit! Evening paddle to bothy. Day 2 paddle across loch to camp at Ardmaddy Bay NN 075377. Day 3 ascent of SW ridge to summit. Very hot, dry day, had to have a water stop at NN 107377. Discent further north passing 100 m south of Monadth Laith and down track to coast. Hot suuny day with high cloud base. 7 hours to ascend, 4 to decend, 2nd night at Ardmaddy Bay, too late to begin paddle out. Day 4 paddle out in sunny conditions but very slow progress due to headwind, has to camp at NN 045339. Up at 4:00 am to paddle out before wind returned and get out before storm Henry arrived next day. Midges exceptionally bad at bothy but no real bother from then on. | Parked at the Lochawe smokery, some SMC guides mention a country park which doesn't exist. Smokery ok with parking there. Up the Lochawe track there is a car park 200m in which we didn't see till on our way. The track itself is 'interesting' as others describe. 2 hrs of pedaling required at least. Met the local Ghillie Alistair from Ardmaddy who advised us to go up the Narrachan burn behind the bothy. Keeping to the West/true left bank a path makes good progress until above the waterfall and gorge. Crossing the burn here 2km of easy ground leads you to the summit, passing over a minor top. We descended as guide books suggest the SE ridge above the Allt Hallater. It provides a much worse line than the way up, rough wet ground, small crags, deer grass with limited lines through. Up Meall Garbh afterwards, then as Alistair offered to run us back to Inverawe in his 4x4 we gladly accepted. Still a big day out :-) | nordicstar | 11/09/2016 |
