Walked from the south-west via the hillfort, free parking on Hale Lane. Pleasant walk up through the woods and not too busy today. Lots of very nice fungi around. | sturuss | 06/01/2024 |
Parked in a layby on the road to the E, just after the dog rescue home. Short walk up the fp to visit hp and Chiltern hp rock. Solo | richard69 | 11/12/2023 |
A five mins trot up from the minor road. Lovely autumn colours not spoilt by heavy continuous rain. | Play2End | 14/11/2023 |
I agree with what someone else put, my least favourite Marylin!

We were in the area so thought we would stop off, its a nice enough place but not the best walk, the summit was not wel signposted. | JMB246 | 01/07/2023 |
Parked in main parking facility for wendover woods. Walked from car park and reached summit in around 10 minutes. | JXNJP | 01/07/2023 |
Did the circular walk. Beautiful day. Good views from the orientation table | sconnolly01 | 02/06/2023 |
Parked in the Wendover Woods ANPR car park and did a Country Walking Magazine 4.5 mile course. | gbeniston | 21/05/2023 |
Walked here from Tring Park via Pavis Wood, return route via lunch at the cafe, a visit to the Gruffalo and the hill fort. Return walk much hillier feeling than outward walk! | catie | 08/04/2023 |
Walk w/Devon, Jess. Wendover Woods loop from Pavillion. | ZacField | 02/04/2023 |

With MikeO & Luna. From Wendover woods car park. | masmith | 10/09/2022 |
Charlie, orienteering practice | Blisco | 05/09/2022 |
Parked at Go Ape. £2.70 for 2 hours. Map by toilets shows location of the summit cairn. Large stone in the woods placed by the Chiltern Society marks the high point. | RowanP | 21/08/2022 |
A round of Wendover Woods and Pavis Wood from The Hale. Both summit points uncertain so walked in circles for a while. God knows what the onlookers thought. | summitter | 15/08/2022 |
Walked up the steep Fitness Trail from Wendover, then off a little trail from the car park road to the summit. A very hot day! Quite a busy area with the Go Ape centre and café, but no one else interested in the summit.
No views from the summit, but there is a viewpoint to the south which offers a nice view of Weston Turville Reservoir.
Continued onwards to Pavis Wood. | hillbagger91 | 10/08/2022 |
From Hale Lane along Outer Aylesbury Ring. Summit is ground by tree on other side of fence. | peter4lc | 06/03/2022 |
Re-Re-Visit to bag the relocated summit. Parked in the main Car Park which was free as there was an event on. Visited the old and new summit areas then did the Gruffalo Trail. | Jephcote83 | 12/12/2021 |
Done as part of a stunning Autumn run in the woods starting from near Halton Camp . Actually been up there many times but never with the intent to record as a tick. The large fly in the ointment of this hill is the sight and location of the horrendous visitor car park they have built. | Gareth1886 | 19/11/2021 |
Did Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire's County Tops with my cousin, 10 Mile long walk and probably 3 hours in the dark as well. Bad planning, but good to get them both done. | DavidHiner | 09/11/2021 |
This was my first intentional County Top! So, even though there isn't any magnificent view by the stone at the top, I was pretty excited to get here!
I walked from Wendover, up a rather steep path at the end of Beechwood Land, to get to the Buckinghamshire County Top, then continued, through Northill Wood, to Pavis Wood, the County Top of Hertfordshire!
Finished the day by walking through the beautiful Tring Park, where there is a magnificent view, and down into Tring! | Sidders S | 22/09/2021 |
Pavis Wood > Northill Wood > Wendover Wood (Cairn and summit) > Aston Hill > Buckland Hoo > Fox Lane > Pavis Wood. Fine circular walk on paths. | Winterfloodian | 21/09/2021 |
From bridleway heading east from Wendover. Up steep footpath. Then along Outer Aylesbury Ring bridleway direct to summit just off the tarmac over the fence. Access gained via path by car park exit barrier, so no need to climb over fence! | KeithByTheC | 11/09/2021 |

Parked near Go Ape for £2.70. Very short walk to Chilterns high point plaque and to actual summit. | paulhilder | 08/08/2021 |
Easy walk from the car park, then over to Pavis Wood for the Herts one | cjwilliams | 23/07/2021 |
Parked by Hole Lane Vineyard then followed the Outer Aylesbury ring to the summit and a nice circular route back through the golf course and then down and along the canal. The public footpath does go through the golf course, it just isn't immediately obvious but the very helpful old boy working there showed me the way and was super nice! Good bench on the edge of the fairway to stop for spot of lunch too. Canal-side path is a bit muddy in places, but other than that a very pleasant circular route and one I may repeat. | jamiequackers | 04/07/2021 |
Second summit of the day. Its marked by a large stone at the edge of a wood so easy to find | pclyndes | 11/06/2021 |
As a detour from the Ridgeway | lerritt | 31/05/2021 |
Parked in forestry car park and followed the waymarked path which takes you a roundabout route to the top away from the road. Beautiful spring woodland with lots of flowers and new leaves on the beech woods. Excellent views from the hill fort 1 km SE along the marked 'tellow' trail as the summit is in woodland on a bit of a plateau. https://www.strava.com/activities/5275402612 | SlowOl | 10/05/2021 |
4th ascent of my local Marilyn. 13 mile circular from Marsworth, following canal to Tring then following field paths across to Wigginton and Hastoe then to country park over Wendover Woods descending to Aston Clinton and along disused canal arm back to car. Sunny and breezy, a lot of people about at the country parks. | DanTrig | 02/05/2021 |
Nice stroll round and straight up the side of the fort. | Stevooo | 10/04/2021 |
Revisit for new summit, while trigging in the area - although if the one-way system was in place during my 1999 visit I'll have virtually driven over it. Entry gate closed to vehicles at 5pm - so I walked in from SSE via Coombe Hill trig, finding a bonus cut BM at start :-) | RHW | 05/04/2021 |
On drive back from South. Probably least favourite Marilyn | ketzster | 01/04/2021 |
Parked for free in the CP near the exit of the toll road. Very boggy paths but still surprisingly quiet for a bank holiday. | Jephcote83 | 28/12/2020 |
walking Ridgeway section from Tring to Wendover with PJB and diverted to visit this hill. Saw 2 roe deer near top | trimarc2 | 04/11/2020 |
with David, diverted off Ridgeway to visit top. Ridgeway route was from Tring Station to Wendover Station. The diversion along the Icknield Way was horribly churned up by mountain bikes | r1 | 04/11/2020 |
Walk with John, summit very near car park.
Walked on to Hertfordhire top | ParkerP1960 | 22/10/2020 |

12k Circular walk taking in Haddington Hill and Pavis Wood. Nice easy walk, a lot of woodland and the occasional view of the rolling Chilterns Hills. Neither of the HPs are particularly of note. | jarmin45 | 18/01/2020 |
25km trail running from Wendover library car park - Haddington Hill, Pavis Wood & Coombe Hill. Saw a muntjac on the way down Haddington Hill in the dark with just me and my headtorch. | Fionalevey | 08/11/2019 |
A 50 minute walk around the woods in the drizzle from the car park, visiting the HP and the trig. | silveracorn_alan | 25/10/2019 |
With Val. From car park in Wendover Woods. Short walk to flat summit with plaque marking highest point. To make a bit more of a walk of it we went on to the Pavis Wood county top. Good weather. | mike.hoult | 02/10/2019 |
With Mike | Val Deisler | 02/10/2019 |
Collected both Wendover and Pavis Woods tops together. Good weather for the walk. | acolling | 14/09/2019 |
Walking the County Tops of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. One way followed route suggested by Muir, but made it a circular for the way back. | bgalon | 25/08/2019 |
Walked from Pavis Woods | johnkenyon | 05/08/2019 |
Lazy bag from the car park. | NormanW | 26/07/2019 |
Part of circular walk including Herts high point in Pavis Wood SW of Tring. From Herts 'peak', walked to opposite SW corner of Pavis Wood, exited west to an open area called The Crong. Turned south along road, then right path to Wendover Woods. Bucks high point is marked by a cairn stone (highest point of Chilterns) on eastern boundary of wood. No discernible 'peak' here but at least it is marked. | timbo99 | 10/07/2019 |
1/2 Quick drive by on way to driving to friends in Bedfordshire, parked in go ape and was able to leave without paying having only stopped for 15 minutes | penbet | 29/06/2019 |
Nice 25km circular from Wendover. | atreides7887 | 14/04/2019 |
Walked from Costa Café in Wendover. Top very flat, but has Cairn with plaque to prove which is the exact spot. Lazy people could drive to within 50m of the summit. | IanHHill | 27/03/2019 |
Loop from Wendover station. A revisit for the sake of the Cambridge hillwalking club's 'climb all the county tops in a year' project. | Mark Jackson | 24/03/2019 |
On own. From new Forestry Commission car park in Wendover Woods along new exit road then into woods to boulder and plaque which is close to forest edge. Had planned to continue walk to Pavis Wood but lack of time meant ended up driving. | Beeliner | 22/03/2019 |
Started from Forestry Commission car park at Wendover Woods. Followed 'Chiltern Hills high point' sign along footpath to marker stone with plaque. | Eliza100 | 06/03/2019 |
Walk from Princes Risborough to Wendover Woods. | jedthehumanoid | 01/03/2019 |
Went to Go Ape, wandered over to tick off the high point | jkl | 17/02/2019 |
Walled in a loop with Pavis Wood. | peter_tun | 13/01/2019 |
Lunch search in the woods various highest points, inc stone visited...easy leg stretch once located the path, strange looks at me from folk heading to go ape | N.Morters | 08/01/2019 |
Decided to do this one after a skiing lesson in Milton Keynes. Upon exiting the car we were greeted by the sound of screaming kids! The cafe was shocking so opted for a quick visit to bag the summit then headed off to find a nice farm shop cafe just down the road. | Jephcote83 | 05/01/2019 |
The road through Wendover woods is a N-S one-way toll road with the entrance at SP 891101 and the exit at SP 898083. One can avoid the toll by parking for free near the exit gate at SP 897083 and walking, on the toll road, in a northerly direction to the summit | Isbjorn | 10/11/2018 |
Summit with Anita whilst staying in Aldbury | Ghibli | 05/11/2018 |
A hill walk in reverse - start at/ near summit then descend (via Coombe Hill trig to near golf club in this case). Woods quite pleasant. Hill bagged & car journey back 'up North' - similar to Gill's experience trying to get to M1 via Milton Keynes (following not brilliant signage) was purgatorial - possibly best to ignore motorway signs and use the A5 till north of town. | ger | 31/10/2018 |
'Climbed' while staying local to attend the Geolympix | ey up me duck | 26/10/2018 |
5th hill of 6 on Stage 7 of the Ridgeway walk with Lesley, having detoured off to climb Whiteleaf Hill, Pulpit Hill, Beacon Hill and Coombe Hill, this would be the longest detour of the trip, from the minor lane junction with Hengrove wood i took the lane then a footpath that traverses a large field leading to a permissive path through the woods then abandoning this for some fruiteless wandering. One of the vaguest Marilyns I would imagine. Boulder with plaque bagged but road through the woods seems higher but then is this natural? Back along the forest tracks and back to Lesley who had been patiently waiting for me... | Dazingdale | 27/09/2018 |
From new car park along new exit road then into woods to boulder and plaque. £2.20 I think is minimum charge. | mart0797 | 14/08/2018 |
Tring station to Halton | raymondwilkes | 07/08/2018 |
From the east in twilight | Topographer57 | 05/08/2018 |
Parked up, popped to the café for some lunch and then strolled to the summit boulder. Enjoyed some den building in the woods afterwards with my daughter. | Gerry the Ranger | 04/08/2018 |
Walk with good views to W of car park | Ben Tindal | 01/07/2018 |
Parked in the building site which is a result of the ongoing refurbishment. Not straightforward to find the path given the building work going on. Brass plaque located and then on to Pavis Wood. | Buck | 20/06/2018 |
Cycled from home. Combined with a trip to Pavis Wood. | tsharp | 21/05/2018 |
From the cafe out to the cairn | Mariana Trench | 13/05/2018 |
Reasonably quiet today. Not straightforward to find the path as there is a lot of building work going on. Escape was more straightforward. | dal | 16/04/2018 |
Awful! It reminds me of Whinlatter Forest and all the other touristy theme parks that spoil the English countryside. Dreadful. Couldn't escape quick enough! Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 17/02/2018 |
From the car park to the N by way of Coombe Hill trig point. Then on to Pavis Wood | DanMaisieBex | 12/02/2018 |

Night hike from Berkhamsted that involved a bit of wild camping and a lot of sheltering from the rain. Had actually been within a few metres of the summit for a couple of hours, but too dark/wet to see it! | DanHolme | 22/07/2017 |
The last Marilyn of the day, towards sunset on a blindingly hot day. Wendover Woods seems to be closed after 8.30 pm, so I parked just down the hill from the trig point path. The trig point doesn't seem to be very useful, as there isn't much of a view. Into the woods, on a track and then the forest road, and then found an overgrown, scritchy-scratchy path along the fence to the summit boulder. The easier way back was towards the car park to pick up the forest road. The main challenge with southern Marilyns is the driving, and not the walking. Heading home involved circumnavigating the roundabouts of Milton Keynes to get to the M1. Not nice. | Gill | 08/07/2017 |
Easy stroll from the Wendover Woods car park | mapple | 29/06/2017 |

Stone marking highest point only a few hundred level yards from the Forestry Commission car park so not a very rewarding 'peak'. Some lovely walks through the surrounding woods, though. | ajd58 | 11/01/2017 |

Diversion on way to meeting in Maidenhead. Stroll over from car park past café. | SS | 01/11/2016 |
This part of a circular dog walk for me that a do a couple of evenings a week evenings. Had some trouble finding the summit marker in the dark even with a torch. | Chilternfox | 08/10/2016 |
A return visit 23 years after I wrongly thought I had bagged the summit of hill, when in fact I guess I only went to the 261m road spot height which was then listed in George Bridges book as being the Bucks county summit location, and I had carried forward that myth in subsequently claiming the marilyn. Put that right today with a wander among the Sunday afternoon crowds in the woods-but as other have said -the high ground could be elsewhere than the rock - with the highest mapped spot height of 267m being on the exit road from the country park, which I visited, Update: Feb 21 - hb update relocates summit next to this exit road spot height at 267.5m | Chris Pearson | 02/10/2016 |
A sea of happiness and joy on the faces of many children. Future Hill baggers maybe? Proper coffee in the cafe too. | ijpowell | 01/09/2016 |

Tried finding this one in the dark with no torch..failed miserably. Turns out i was looking in the wrong place. Idiot. Easy enough in actual fact. Large stone marks top. The blaque has been damaged though..i mean..why? | stig_nest | 22/11/2015 |
Used to come here every December for an Orienteering event. Lazy today, as it was raining we parked in the main car park and walked a short distance to the high point. | Dragonhert | 29/10/2015 |
From the Forestry Commission car park. With Gill. | ADT | 23/10/2015 |
Walked up from the public bridleway next to The Hale, a pleasant walk through the woods until I reached the hordes at the top.

Paid £1.60 for the car park and then short walk through the woods. Sunny day but chilly in the shade | r.ashwell | 23/09/2015 |
County top outing, This can be an easy one park in the main car park at wendover woods, once you turn into the woods the road goes on for about mile and a half just before you reach the main car park look out for a sign on the left saying Chilterns highest point and then its just a couple of minutes walk to a cairn with a plaque inset commemorating the queens silver jubilee. Toilets and cafe on site | WAYNE ROWLETT | 09/08/2015 |
with four other tops before noon. (Mx, Herts, Beds, oxon) | maltose | 11/06/2015 |
This was the first of the three we did today, easy to do and we had a lovely walk through Wendover woods | Tony and Karen | 11/06/2015 |
I got ripped off for £1.60. It was a couple of hundred yards from the main car park to the summit boulder. I don't think it's the high point the ground to the south west was definitely higher. The only consolation was the bluebells. | isabelle | 18/05/2015 |
Here for the British Radio Orienteering Champs... There is a free car park 100m short of the exit from the forest drive (this last stretch is two way so you can turn off the public road without having to traverse the one way system) and then it is about a km walk north. The land SW does look higher to me - so I took a wander and over the spot height point as well. | M3WDD | 16/05/2015 |

Went to an extraordinary effort to bag this top on my way to Windsor. One of the least memorable. Parked up near the trig point and walked through forestry tracks to the plaque. | Flipperfeet | 05/11/2012 |

From the car park as others say 1 minute. Bit of a poor hill to be the highest. | simon and co | 17/08/2012 |
We arrived at Wendover woods country park and followed the signs for the highest point. Less than a five minute walk to the hill top. Very nice family picknick areas etc and a nice gentle walk on a nice day. | andytea | 12/08/2012 |

Climbed up steep slope (Chilterns escarpment)through Wendover Woods from side of Halton Air base. Tried to park in car park indicated on OS map but Ministry of Defence had sold land to Belway and the bottom of the escarpmenr is now a new housing estate,- bloody planners! Summit area is now a country park with assault coyrses, picnic areas and car parks so OS map was a waste of space again. Fortunately there is signage to the highest point on the chilterns. Supposed summit is marked by a stone feature but it is obviously in the wrong place as land to the south-west is clearly higher. Mel Middleton | BHMC | 06/08/2012 |
The trig point is easy to find the summit less so. Bashed around in the woods for a while before deciding I must have been there. Nice area to have a bike ride around. | TheWicken | 25/06/2012 |
Tried a few places but reckon its a bashful summit, behind a tree. Not exactly mountainous terrain. | Eddie | 03/04/2012 |

Solo. I went along a minor road and then paid £2 to go on paved tracks through forest (Aston Hill) to where there is a café. There were signs to the highest point of the Chilterns and a 0.75 mile hill top path. I thought the summit was at the end of the 0.75 mile path and walked the almost level path/track (with one or two investigations of the possible highest point off the track) until I reached a road, which is where cars exit the forest. Walked back to the car, realised my mistake and went to the supposed summit of Haddington Hill which was only about 100m away! There are stones and a plaque at the summit. It is difficult to say that this is the highest point as it is an almost level summit ridge. | pwbellarby | 01/05/2008 |

Views? Not a chance. Big rock marking the highest point in the Chilterns? Yeah! The rock is quite hard to find, despite only being a few dozen yards into the woods from the car park - take your GPS. Easily reached from Ridgeway or Herts county top. | wheresthepath | 02/01/2005 |

From Sheffield after work bagging a few county tops en route to meet Julie at her parents near London before overnight ferry to France for a weeks climbing at Easter. Bagged the 261m spot height on the road as listed as Bucks county top by George Bridge and not the hidden in the woods higher true summit of Bucks and what subsequently became known as a marilyn. 23 years passed before I corrected this discrepency and visited the true summit-although even that exact point is in dispute! | Chris Pearson | 08/04/1993 |
Probably 2003. Mooched around to make sure I visited the highest bit. | summitsup | blank |
