The extreme storm force winds of the afternoon had eased by the time I got up here at 10.30pm, and the lofty far off views to Bristol Channel towns and cities lit up in the dark were really top notch as you'd expect.Alex C02/11/2023

Beautiful walk. Stopped by one of the caves on the way back and did a figure of 8 walk from the Burrington Ham car park, to the peak, round, and then to the nature reserve. Breathtaking views all around and really beautiful scenery. Thanks to the local chap who I stumbled into (quite literally!) in the bottom of the cave and provided a history of the area.jamiequackers20/04/2022

From the parking area on the B3134, up the tree lined track & then half R passing lots of wild ponies to a great view. Varied the descent by heading SE & then NE on a curving path. Solo walk from Sandford Quarry via the wonderful Dolebury Warren hillfort, skies clearing as I went. Walked up from the plateau to the northwest, via the damaged Bronze Age barrows on Black Down. The summit is the centre of a really impressive barrow cemetery of 7 barrows, all large and mostly intact. Good to see the signs advising people to stay off them to avoid erosion. Great views right across to Exmoor and the mountains of South Wales. From here headed to Cheddar via the path above the gorge, making for a tiring finish over rough terrain.thesweetcheat02/04/2016

After memorising the route from a map viewed in a local garage, we set off from the B3134 and battled with the blinding light of a fast setting sun. After a bit of a struggle we reached the summit of the Mendips and were rewarded with fine views over Weston super mare and into Wales. Now I know how Hillary, Herzog and Buhl must of felt. After planting the summit flag, I congratulated Mrs Mindless flogger and gave her a big hug - I wouldn't have made it without her. The descent was uneventful - no problems with altitude sickness were encountered.mindlessflogger05/05/2013

Train to Weston Super Mare, bus to Cheddar, walked up from there via Warrens Hill Road. It took an hour and twenty minutes and was straightforward, if a little dull and laborious in places. Very muddy paths on summit dome.johnabutler207/10/2010
