On walk from Niton to Shanklin in gale force windsJohnIvor28/03/2024
Walk w/Devon. Parked Shanklin. Shanklin Down, St Boniface Down Trig, Shanklin Chine loop.ZacField06/10/2023
From the Ventnor Down National Trust car park, circular route across Luccombe Down, Bonchurch Down and St Boniface Down. Hot humid day, but beautiful views. Walked right round the perimeter fence.Lazylizzie16/08/2023
Early evening wander. parked at Trig, but higher ground visible. after a wander along the security fence, I gave up. others have claimed this so until suitably chastised, so will I.Shutterlag21/06/2023
With E. Circular walk from St Martins Road car park Wroxall via Wroxall Down, Luccombe Down, Shanklin Down and St Martins Down. Access to hp within compound not possible despite requesting permission from worker who was driving into compound as I arrived. Could not convince him only wanted to visit hp but firmly refused and advised security cameras picking up all who access compound. Could have got under another locked gate further along but in view of security, like others had to make do with full circuit of perimeter fence. Combined with a sea mist rolling across The Downs during walk meant no views at all! Win some, lose some! Visited trig points on Wroxall Down and Shanklin Down on walk.Beeliner20/06/2023
As known, this can be done by car but we did a horseshoe from Wroxall, Wroxall Down, St. Boniface Down, Bonchurch Down Luccombe Down, Shanklin Down, Wroxall. Really good walk.Neil Midgley02/06/2023
Walked in from Wroxall Down to the west. The compound was locked, but visited both the roadside northwest of the radar station, and the old car park, so counting this with the head-over-summit rule.Mariana Trench27/05/2023
Drove up to Car Park. Visited Trig and High Points around perimeter fence. Good views of the Island.Iris Jephcote21/05/2023

Cycled up Down Lane. Not for the faint hearted.cjwilliams05/05/2023
Train, catamaran and bus to Bonchurch and then ascended the steep path. Onwards to Whitwell hill and St Catherine's hill for a lovely day in the cold wind.Buck13/01/2023

A nice sunny day trip to the Isle of Wight. Ascended steep path from Leeson Road, Bonchurch. Views of the sea are magnificent; my favourite county top so far. The highest point is probably about 200 yards to the west of the radio station, but I did not endeavour to climb the rather tall barbed wire fence.hillbagger9101/06/2022
Walked up from Ventnor as part of cycle tour of the IsleStevooo14/04/2022
Like most had to be contented with walking along the perimeter fence, though satisfied that the point in the old carpark area is high enough to claim the hill on the head height rule.milimana30/03/2022
Parked at the trig. Great views.ekm22/02/2022
Parked at the trig and walked round the compound.paulhilder12/02/2022
Shanklin > Upper Hyde > Shanklin Down > Luccombe Down Viewpoint > St. Boniface Down Trig. Point > Bonchurch Down > Nansen Hill > Devil's Chimney > The Landslip > Luccombe Village > Shanklin.Winterfloodian24/01/2022
An unsatisfactory bag this one. As others have I walked round the perimeter and visited the “sub points” listed on here.Crib Goch07/10/2021
Trig and Perimeter walk around the security fence. Looked easy enough to scale in places, but didn't fancy an arrest whilst on holiday.summitter27/09/2021
Did the summit of Isle of Wight on that day by the 1m rule. Very steep walk up Devil's Chimney and walked passed the Radar Station on the way back down too Ventnor.DavidHiner21/09/2021
Parked in Wroxall. St Martin's Down, Shanklin Down, as near as we could get to St Boniface Down, walked all the way around the compound as we couldn't get in. Then followed the landslide path to Ventnor, up through Ventnor to the Golf course, across to Stanbury Down, then the obelisk and Appuldurcombe House then back to Wroxall. 12 miles .JulieB07/09/2021
From Wroxall via St Martin's Down and Shanklin Down. Circled the large enclosure that contains the high point. KeithByTheC07/09/2021
A couple of workmen were on site and kindly let me go to the high point. A huge stroke of luck arriving at the time they were there.Alan Caine20/07/2021
From Shanklin via Shanklin Down, descended to Devils Chimney, coast path to Shanklin. As noted previously no access to summit, nevertheless a great walk.Cheshire Claret10/07/2021
From Sandown as part of Jill's 80k 4 80 years walk.MichaelF10/07/2021
On a walk from Ryde to VentnorPhilipChaston03/07/2021
Took the footpath from the industrial estate in Ventnor up to and around the radar station security fence and trig point, then onto Shanklin Down trig before dropping down and heading north to Alverstone. Up onto Brading Down and across to Brading and the Yar River Trail to the (closed) NT windmill, before finishing on the beach by the Duver. Very hot day but good views all round. Solo.richard6911/06/2021
From Shanklin along Luccombe Down, observing many linnet, a gliding buzzard and a hovering kestrel. Got as close as poss. given area fenced off, then down via old station (now an industrial estate) and on the hunt for the Glanvile Fratillery butterfly on the undercliff, a fruitless search as it turned out on this occasion. With JSG.JOHNS04/06/2021
Passed over summit on walk from Wroxall to the Bonchurch landslip.BURGESS24/05/2021
Continuing my Round Britain Tour. Stage 3 - I o W, E &W Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Today cycled down from Cowes on the Red Squirrel Trail. Pushed the bike up the STEEP road to the summit. Lovely autumn weather with clear views north to the mainland.pclyndes10/10/2020
Somewhat disappointed to visit an island and not be able to stand on highest point. Satisfied myself with walking from car par with trig pillar clockwise around entire perimeter of radar station. Highest points of note at beginning of walk with close proximity to highest point just inside first entrance gate at SZ56631 78504. Highest point within 240m contour on public land measured as 793ft and looking within compound sure head is well above highest point. So a qualified ascent as opposed to failed ascent.mntainman22/09/2020
With Chris and Daphne - from Shanklin through the churchyard onto Shanklin down, then to the highest accessible point. The bit inside the compound is a little higher, but you can claim this one on head height. Down to Ventnor and then onto the coastal path for an excellent walk.Richard11/09/2020
Walked up from Ventnor, to trig and then around perimeter fence.PeterD06/07/2020
Drove up hill and parked alongside trig in corner of carpark, by fenced compound. Lovely views looking out to sea.Hippy7720/02/2020
On a day trip to the IoW. 1/2 Marilyns. St Boniface Down from the road summit. A walk around the compound and the summit area. (S)silveracorn_alan28/10/2019
Drove up the steep road to the downs and parked by the trig point. Walked down the tarmac track with the complex on my right to a padlocked gate grid reference 56881 78623 this was as close as I dared get to before an act of law breaking would have been needed.WAYNE ROWLETT27/10/2019
8.6m Circular walk from our Air BnB in Bonchurch. Along the coastal Path, up the Devils Chimney to Nansen Hill then up to the compound and around the entire outer fence. Got Chatting to two ladies near the old bunker at the summit who had purchased the land and were now converting the bunker into a holiday home which they kindley gave us a tour of and a cuppa, after that headed over to Shanklin Down, Shanklin and back on the coast path.Jephcote8330/05/2019
Circular walk from Ventnor via Wroxall and Appeldurcombejedthehumanoid20/05/2019
With Val. From Shanklin. Coastal path then up Nansen Hill and on to summit.mike.hoult18/05/2019
From upper Ventnor via clockwork buses from Yarmouth, compound open for good measure...N.Morters26/04/2019
Walked from Ventnor Botanic Garden. Summit enclosed by high fence with barbed wire, but nearest point outside is only 2m lower, so a hand on the top of the fence counts, I think! Walked right round the whole enclosure, about 2km round.IanHHill23/03/2019
As with most previous logs got as close to summit as possible. Number of cows guarding the gates. A silly speculation. i wonder if any one has skateboarded down the approach road?Anthony Vosper31/10/2018
Parked at trig. Found all the old ways in - well and truly fixed. Gate next to main compound is not quite flush with the ground though.SS30/10/2018
