Parked in layby S of Achnashellach station. Good path to the foot of the BLM ridge. Thereafter steep ascent on eroded path to reach BLM Far E top. Lovely ridge walk along to BLM E top and the main top, descending on cairned path to bealach, including some minor scrambling. Good path to Sgorr Ruadh, then free format descent down to the lochans to the SE and the path back to Achnashellach. Another long but enjoyable day with excellent views all round. From Beinn Liath Mhor East Top, again an easy stroll down then up rocky path to summit. Not true for the descent however. Cairns point the way off rocky summit crown to path marked on map at NG9850 5123. From here a tortuous descent on tired legs down a rugged path to Drochaid Coire Lair from where the descent is more gentle rejoining ascent rout al the way back to Achnashellach Stationmntainman04/09/2021

Solo fr Achnashellach after driving up overnight in new Smart car; solid blue sky, clear tops, enough snow to decorate the hills! Frozen underfoot but not treacherous on B L Mhor. Astonishing view of Liathach! Running in microspikes, delightful.NorfolkPT2114/02/2017
With DW and SL. Intending to do the Munro pair, but strong winds (some of the strongest we'd walked in, despite not being forecast) prevented us doing Sgorr Ruadh. Descended back to Achnashellach through Coire Lair.AGWilliamson29/12/2016

Round of Beinn Liath Mhor & Sgorr Ruadh with Shaky on a clear but overcast & relatively calm day. Alone. From Achnashellach Station up the path NW from the station. Took the RH of 3 branches as shown on map. Shortly afterwards a cairn on the left marks the start of a vague track (not shown on map) which ascends the E side of Beinn Liath Mhór. To Far East Top, East Top and main top. Descended WSW where there is a way down crags. I ascended a moderately angled snow field – quite hard – to gain the ridge to Sgorr Ruadh. From summit descended SE. I tried to short-cut the path but had to climb down into the gorge of River Lair and then climb out again. It is better to join the path high up and keep to it. Snow above 500m, patchy at first. There was a lot of snow on Sgorr Ruadh – firm but soft on top. Clear, but overcast all day.pwbellarby05/04/1984
