Parked at SH 8231 3924 for a circuit of 3 Dodds, 2 Nuttalls, 2 ex-Nuttalls and a repeat Marilyn. 2/8. From Foel Ystrodur Fawr: accessed summit from South, where fence crossed old wall. Also visited East top: a short push through mature trees. Fro East top, easy to continue to Moel Ymenyn via open ground. | PGCE | 25/01/2024 |
Parking for 2, SH814.332 trod heads East and North to meet RoW. RoW to pt441 then a rough trod up the re-entrant to meet the forest fence. Rough ground along fence to east, then reached the summit through the dead trees mentioned by others. From Foel Boeth retraced to fence and followed it NW then N then NE and picked up a sheep trod at 834.343. Followed it east then a thin path heads up the slope towards M Ymenyn. From here headed W into the col back to 834.343 and from here a sheep trod can be followed at about 550m contour all the way to meet the fence 820.345 Followed fences into col and easy slopes to FY Fawr. From here along fences to the road/RoW jnt and down road to the car. | Moorponder | 05/07/2023 |

Parked in the same spot used for Moel yr Wden on a wide grass verge near the gate 80316 33599 Twelve and half mile in total for Moel yr Wden before continuing onto Foel Ystrodur Bach, Foel Boeth and Moel Ymenyn. I used the footpath heading Northeast first to reach the base of Foel Ystrodur Fawr then droped down to the footpath heading due East to reach the base of Foel Boeth from the south you can find the break taking you up to the cairn (care is needed), walked west to the edge of the trees and through a felled area to reach the base of Moel Ymenyn where a heather bash is required to climb to the summit, returning the same way using the footpath to the South of Foel Boeth to reach the road and back to the car. Two hours for Moel yr Wden and Four hours for Foel Ystrodur Fawr, Foel Boeth and Moel Ymenyn. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/09/2022 |
Moel Ymenyn > Foel Boeth from GR: SH 85416 34003. Our plan A route was ditched due to the bridleway is impassable due to fallen trees at SH 84713 33717 so headed north to pick up Open Access land around Ffridd Drain. The NE triangle of forest is no more and relatively easy to walk across via SH 84285 34025 to SH 84153 34313. North of the fence line there is a good quad bike track that goes to the col west of the summit then heather bash to Moel Ymenyn summit. Attack point for Foel Boeth is via SH 83446 34256 and pick up the old ride line to SH 83477 33928, whilst not on the map the ride continues to the alternative summit at SH 83523 33812. For main summit first head SE through forest for 40 metres which comes to a clearing to swing around to the main summit. This was only 8.1k but took 3 hours 30 minutes. | ronaldo333 | 12/06/2022 |

Small area to park on road roughly S of Foel Ystrodur Fawr. Climbed Foel Ystrodur Fawr then traversed E and final steep climb to summit of Moel Ymenyn. Traversed round to SW side of Foel Boeth and gained summit (both tops) via gap in forest as others have noted. Very wet and descent complicated by Afon Erwent in spate, requiring a diversion. | RobertP | 08/08/2021 |
1/3 Deweys from small pull in for 2 cars max at SH 814 332. Did Foel Boeth first. Followed bridleway east across Afon Erwent and up to alongside the little knoll .441 at SH 827 334. Then easy ascent through grassy patches avoiding most heather to edge of forest at approx SH 833 337. Then up through strip of ?burnt? trees bringing you out nicely at the summit. Getting off Foel Boeth to move onto Moel Ymenyn was far more challenging with a difficult push through the forest and then even worse the potential leg breaking area of felled forest. There must be a better way off! Once across the fence much easier going by following the grassy areas and small sheep tracks to the col to the west of the peak and then up west ridge of Moel Ymenyn. For Foel Ystrodur Fawr retraced route west off Moel Ymenyn and picked up a good sheep track which contours along the slope Llechwedd Erwent above the boggy basin of the Afon Erwent to the fence T junction at SH 818 347. Then a direct line for Banc Du | silveracorn_alan | 16/09/2020 |

Parked at 84956 31471 by what looks like a chapel, up the road, left at the fork, over Moel Hafod yr Wyn, up to Ffridd Trawsgoed, on to Foel Both then round the forest edge and across to Moel Ymenwyn. Tough going for much of the time. 7.24 miles 3 hours 28 minutes. | clivevilla | 17/04/2019 |
Moel Llyfnant, Foel Ystrodur Fawr, Foel Boeth, Moel Ymenyn, Arenig Fawr South Ridge Top, Carreg y Diocyn,Arenig Fawr South Top, Arenig Fawr and Moel Llechwedd. Another glorious day | Alunrees33 | 03/07/2018 |
Parked Dolhendre near phone box,up lane and track via Trawscoed then up to burnt area as SS to Foel Boeth. | dgresty | 26/04/2017 |
Parked on hardstanding by side of minor road to SW at 822328 (Space for 1-2 cars) Path up W. side of Erwent gorge & then tussocky crossing to bridleway E. along bridleway before making way up to edge of forest at 834337 where there is a strip of widely spaced dead trees A short climb up between dead trees to summit cairn. (S) | gerrybowes | 15/04/2017 |
From chapel on minor road up past Trawscoed then to Foel Boeth using burnt area. Came down under green stuff quite easily to south. Then horrid crossing to Moel Ymenyn through heather. Returned via Cwm Tylo but bridle way is very very wet back to upward route. | SS | 10/09/2016 |
Continuation of walk from Moel Ymenyn. Descended south-west through thick heather, over stream, then tough heather-bashing up to the north edge of the forest. Followed the edge of the forest west to its highest point at SH 83480 33934. Then took firebreak south to a minor top. From there it was a forest thrash for 100m SSW to the summit. Not a route I'd recommend! To descend, followed firebreak steeply south to forest edge, then long haul along the southern flank of Arennig Fawr's south ridge to rejoin outward route north of Foel Ystrodur Fawr. A tough hill in remote country. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 13/03/2016 |
Very rough walking , make sure you take your poles. You have to walk in from the south as I could not find any other way in. Was glad to get back to the car after this one. | DARRENG | 07/08/2015 |
From 3393. Hard work. Heather and no paths. There has been a fire which makes entry at 83451 33677 good. From summit it seems best to retrace your steps unless you have full body armour. | destaylor | 01/08/2013 |
Climbed after Moel Ymenyn. Short thrash through forest from top of ride 70m to east. | chriswatson | 14/03/2013 |
This top is still tricky to get to. Much of the forest on the northern side has been cleared and there is a break which allows access to the top but be aware that it's rough walking. | Ianto&Sue | 02/09/2010 |

not unpleasant from S, scatter-planted below summit. layby 822328, Erwent gorge, B/way then climb | RHW | 26/03/2000 |
Solo: Arenig South Top & 500m tops circuit in the rain wearing new fell running shoes. An empty vastness of sloping mooorland. 2 and half hours outing to N of road from car, incl a 'new' 500m top I spotted ( Foel Boeth 541m not listed at time) Then 3 tops to S of road in another 2 and half hours -then drove to Leeds having started the day in Sheffield. | Chris Pearson | 27/12/1997 |
