Mynydd Egryn South Top, Mynydd Egryn and Craig y Grut from Barmouth on the Cambrian Way.rhalstead28/12/2022
Seventh of 8 tops on a breathtaking but exhausting 16.5 mile trek from Dyffryn Ardudwy to Barmouth via Moelfre, Y Llethr, Diffwys and the southern Rhinogydd ridge. The steep descent from Llawlech is a strain on tired feet, I stopped off at the Bronze Age ring cairn which marks the top of the pass at Bwlch y Rhiwgyr and contemplated descending that way via Cerrig Arthur, but decide to press on with an increasingly unwelcome ascent of Mynydd Egryn. I chose the wrong (right-hand) side of the wall to climb up from the pass, which leads me to a succession of very tall stone walls to cross, before I cut my losses and cross over to the left-hand side. The summit cairn would be excellent but has been trashed by stupid people building shelters in it, as well as the wall cutting right through it. Fab views though. From the parking area at SH 656201, a fine horseshoe using old coach roads. Up via Braich, down from Bwlch y Rhiwgyr. All on easy, mostly grassy terrain with a path, the coastal views were sensational on the long ridge leading from the high Rhinogydd to the sea below Garn. This was as far down the ridge as we went, then we retraced to Bwlch y Rhiwgyr. It is now possible to go all the way over Garn, with stiles or gates at all the walls. With Pete.pwheeler09/09/2018
