From parking area just west of bend to SW. up BW but soon got confused by ATV tracks better than BW. Into forest on BW at fence corner and up to track. Along to north of hill and then up firebreaks to top. Came back via Cistfaen and Cerrig Gwaun y-llan. | PeterD | 19/07/2023 |
Parked on the verge of the lane to Clochfaen. ROW, then track up through forest and along the firebreaks. | PGCE | 12/08/2021 |
Sychnentydd > Cerrig Llwydion > Esgair y Llwyn > Pen Lan - fawr > [Blaen-y-clawdd-du] > [Carn y Groes] > Esgair Ganol from GR: SN 89954 71995. Return via SN 88040 74794 makes for an easy descent to the road. | ronaldo333 | 07/05/2021 |
Followed forest perimeter fence around from Pen lan Fawr, with the cairn at 510 offering a sheltered spot for lunch. A narrow ride links the fence and gate with the top where an Elan Valley concrete post adorns the summit | Rob Rees | 31/01/2021 |
From Llangurig for a round of Esgair Ganol, Cerrig Gwaun-y-llan, Llechwedd Ddu and Bryn Du. | rhalstead | 06/09/2020 |
4/4 Deweys, visiting Cerrig Llwydion, Esgair y Llwyn, Pen Lan-fawr and Esgair Ganol from SN 898 720. From Esgair Ganol best to return along forest edge to Pen Lan-fawr and follow easy ATV track down the S ridge to the road, avoids deep tussocks. On the whole the ATV tracks make it easy walking. 20km with 500m ascent in 5 hours. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 03/08/2020 |
from cistfaen leave track up firebreak 8795 775, initially went up wrong firebreak second one is right one back same way to cattle grid 854 783 | underhill | 23/07/2020 |
From the car park on the south side of Llangurig at SN 90877 79775. Took the Wye Valley trail south past Clochfaen and down into the cwm. Then took the grit track WSW into the forest. At SN 87950 77470 took the wide fire-break SW up, then branching left up to the marker stone on the summit. Returned by outward route. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 12/07/2020 |
First of four Deweys from the parking area near the crossroads of the minor road grid 904 715. Route was to walk down the road to the footpath near Bodtalog and continues in the direction of Esgair Ganol, this is not recommended as the path is indistinct and very tussocky in short a complete nightmare. continued onto Pen Lan Fawr, Esgair y Llwyn and Cerrig Llwydion in five hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 13/04/2019 |
As destaylor. Parked above gate at start of track at 911781 - Up good farm track & then forest track to start of firebreak at 8795 7747 - SW & then SE along firebreak to the boundary stone summit. (S) | gerrybowes | 16/02/2018 |
From Llangurig along the Wye Valley Walk then along a path heading WSW. | clivevilla | 15/07/2017 |
Walked up from the little car park at the head of Cwm Ystwyth. Up to Cerrig Gwaun-y-llan first via Cistfaen and some forest rides, then back and through the forest to Esgair Ganol and back down the same way. | Neolith | 01/07/2017 |

Same route as before but this time with Wombourne. Some snow remaining on the tops, fell into a bog on the way down, happy days... | steve hudson | 11/02/2015 |
Parked at GR 867746, room for several cars. Followed RoW across grass which became tussocky with a fair covering of snow. Made an easy stream crossing then headed for a large stone cairn on the ridge. Followed the edge of the forest to the summit which is in a clearing in the forest. Returned keeping to higher ground initially. Returned to find a horse had licked all the road salt from the car! With SH. | wombourne | 11/02/2015 |
End of track ENE easy parking. Good track. Fire break at 8795 7747. No body armour needed. | destaylor | 05/08/2014 |

From Neuadd-ddu across the suspension bridge and up via Brithdir taking in five Deweys in a north to south loop. Glorious walking weather with blue sky and breeze on tops. Not a soul seen all day except in the valley. | SS | 17/05/2014 |
Traversed, along with 4 other Deweys, on a walk from Glangwy Farm Campsite to Pont ar Elan. | Chris Peart | 26/02/2014 |
Start ~ 867746. Followed sketchy path of the RoW up into the valley before crossing the valley floor and climbing up to a cairn on the right hand ridge. Followed ridge to the forest and firebreak to the summit. Returned via RoW path. With Ron. | steve hudson | 12/10/2011 |
