Moderately bleak and drizzly up here right now, but it does certainly seem like a very pleasant hill.Alex C01/03/2022
Second half of an anticlockwise circuit around the head of the valley from Ebbw Vale Parkway station on a cold day. After Mynydd Carn-y-Cefn, dropped down to Ebbw Vale town centre, then headed up here via Breiry Hill and the path up above Garden City, following the edge of the escarpment for good views of the valley. The sun came out as I reached the top, which is a very trashed Bronze Age cairn with later military gubbins inserted into it. Had a nice chat with a local from Brynmawr while at the top. Headed off SSE then took a rather rash route straight down very steep slopes of bracken and scrubby trees to eventually regain sensible terrain at The Croft. Then back to Ebbw Vale Parkway to complete the circuit.thesweetcheat22/01/2022
If you have an ordinary car, do not drive along Manmoel Road unless you like splashing out for new shocks. I did (from the north) and it's a moonscape. You might also find it difficult to turn the car around for the return. Not worth it IMO. Sheep grazing amongst litter looked slightly incongruous.Wycombe Wanderer15/01/2022
Parked below The Croft, in Ebbw Vale. Track along top of woods joins footpath. Up onto ridge. A massive pile of rubbish from fly tipping near the summit. Shame because it’s a lovely hill. Solo.Dangerous Dave24/11/2021
Parked by the fishing lake at SO 15495 07992. Took the track up through the forest and onto the open moor over a cattle grid. Then eroded off-road motorbike tracks SE to the summit. Returned mainly by outward route, but made a circuit of the fine lake. Solo.Man of Kernow129/08/2020
Drove up Manmoel Road from the north. Parked about 330 m west of the summit. Easy five minute walk to the top which now has an odd sloping railway sleeper bench on it as well as the concrete and brick remains. Continued south along the road - seems the whole thing is drivable.Herbert Anchovy01/08/2020
6/6 Dewey day. From Mountain Air Gate drove south along dirt road to small roadside parking at SO 165 063. Then short walk across generally short grass turf to the summit. (S)silveracorn_alan21/07/2020

From the free car park at the reservoir in Georgetown 15494 07999. 45 minutes and a two mile walk for this untidy and uninspiring top.WAYNE ROWLETT18/01/2020
Starting at 155093 in darkness - headed up defined track to reach summit - clear. Great views of the lights of Ebbw Vale from the summitwychwood19/02/2019
Beautiful sunny morning and beautiful views - shame about the fly-tipping on the lower grounds.kasharic04/08/2018
I had a look at ways up from round Garden City but then decided to go back up road to Tredegar and drive on Man Moel Road, which has a surface ok for my saloon car. Walked from col N of summit at a popular unofficial rubbish dump and went up between motorbike scrambling scars. 20 mins on foot was enough, would be a nice hill /ridge if not so trashed, at least quiet on a Thursday afternoon. Excellent viewspwheeler19/04/2018
Car park by St James Pool (formerly a reservoir for the Tredegar Steel Works) at 155080 – Up track through woods & then a choice of wide tracks up to the summit & foundations of a former lookout post. (DB)gerrybowes26/09/2017
I parked at the picnic site at the reservoir. I was greeted to some loud music with local yobs drinking fishing and even urinating in the water. I headed up through the beer cans & bottles. Carling appeared to be a local favourite. There were also used condoms, drug paraphernalia and even a discarded lawnmower, table and chair set along with a hot water tank. Further up the track I was nearly run over by trail bikes and cars were on the top road. There was also some sort of dog breeding facility with constant barking. The top of the hill was less spoilt and offered good views. I think the local authority and police quite clearly don't care about what is going on as they are letting it happen. They and the local people should be ashamed of themselves this certainly would not be allowed to happen in Somerset. With some effort this could be such a lovely spot. I certainly won't be visiting again and I certainly would warn parents about taking children anywhere near this hill.isabelle19/08/2017
From Garden City. A nice way up and a nice hill. Down pleasantly to Troedrhiwgwair.Alan Moore16/06/2017

Up from picnic spot & fishing lake. Horrendous fly tipping, litter & trail bike desecration around these parts.ngthack09/04/2017
Ascent from Victoria and then north along broad grassy ridge of Cefn Manmoel in diving snow to summit. High point has remains of brick structure and concrete slab.RichardM28/02/2017
In driving snow, from Ebbw Vale valley, then continued west. Large mound with concrete slab on top. Otherwise flattish top to ridge.Denise 27/02/2017
Parked in Victoria and walked first up lanes and then along path/old tramway and out onto the ridge. From there N to top.amarillo-oro-como08/01/2017
Parked at picnic spot. Awful fly tipping. Some Welsh people do not deserve the beautiful country they have. Interesting huge ancient cairn at the top.clivevilla19/06/2016
Parked by lake/ picnic spot in Tredeagar. A pleasant route up the hill despite occasional fly tipping.Cas-gwent13/04/2016

From end of Man Moel Road (was passed by a car – not sure on access rights) along to the trail bike ruts. Easy enough climb on short grass between them and on up track to summit. Wonder what the building was that needed these foundations. Back the same way in rain.SS16/03/2015
Parked at SO 16658 08500. It's at the end of a road and there is space for a few cars. Looks like the parking for a set of swings etc and the houses there. Up the road to a gate and then a track and path, which leads to the summit. Bike tracks all over the place. Dropped off the summit to the north and followed Sirhowy Valley Walk track to the radio mast. Used a series of paths to take me back to the gate and car.MikeM12/03/2015
7/7 Short hop up from badly surfaced roadFergalh23/11/2014
With the wind blowing so strong one could hardly stand up I feared I would not make it up this one. Never the less I set off aiming to park near the mast. When I got there another car went ahead of me so I followed. Turns out I ended up driving to within 300m of the summit. Easy from there!Father Ted25/01/2014
From lake above Georgetown, easy up and down on tracks.rhalstead10/01/2014
Parked by fishing lake at GR 156080. Followed good track up through forest and onto open hillside. Various tracks then lead up to grassy summit. Good views down into Ebbw Vale and the old steelworks site.wombourne12/09/2013
Start ~ 155080. Picnic site. Easy walk up good tracks to the summit. Good views of the site of Ebbw Vale Steelworks, now being redeveloped. With Wombourne.steve hudson12/09/2013
Handy parking at a fishing lake in Peacehaven. The hill is used as a 4x4 play ground. There is a clearly marked track from the lake through the forest. Once out on to the open access land there are numerous tracks to follow to the summit.jonglew06/01/2013
