Round of Ben Alder Munros from Culra Bothy, included a few, but not all tops. Cycled in from Dalwhinnie and camped the night before. 28km in 10 hrs | Nicky C | 01/06/2023 |
Big day taking in all the Aonach Beag ridge and Ben Alder group. | Geoff Briggs | 30/05/2023 |
Parked at the underpass at south end of dam. Bike to just past Culra then around Coire na Lethchois to Ben Alder, Sron Bealach Beithe, Sron Coire na h-Iolaire and Beinn Bheoil. Sadly no views above 800m despite 70% chance of cloud-free Munros. | TRG318 | 18/05/2023 |
Started at Loch Ossian so a long day. Along Uisge Labhair which was very pleasant and then a tough trek uphill through heather to get to Bealach Cumhann. Up the steep slopes of Ben Alder and down to Beallach Breabag. Decided I would do the second Munro so over Sron Coire na h-loaire and on to Beinn Bheoil. The views were incredible down on Loch Ericht and back across to Ben Alder whose slopes shimmered in the light. Back the same way to Bealach Cumhann. The bothy at Alder Bay looked very tempting but pressed on along the well-constructed path back to Bealach Cumhann and then retraced my steps home. | tsharp | 17/05/2023 |
Cycled in snow, left bike at Carla, summit 4pm ish camped above loch, windy wet next day, walked biked out | NeilThompson | 18/02/2023 |

From Ben Alder Cottage after a nights sleep. Weather so dreadful on first day opted for the 26km hike straight in to the bothy then attacked Ben Bheòil post sleep. Clear day but pretty treacherous gusts on top. From Ben Alder to Dalwhinnie with GFE (29km total, 8:30 hours) | Fionalevey | 30/12/2021 |
Ben Alder and Beinn Bheòil from Dalwhinnie with Harrison, John and Johhny. Sketchy ride into/out from Culra due to ice on the track, and we couldn't find a good spot to cross the Allt a'Bhealaich Bheithe (fairly heavy flow and ice-covered rocks) we opted to just head up to Bealach Breabag and hit Ben Alder from that side, then back down and up Beinn Bheòil - John and Johhny headed back down to Culra after Ben Alder, while Harrison and I continued on with Beinn Bheòil via Sron Coire na h-Iolaire. It was getting dark by the time Harrison and I returned to the bikes, and the ice on the stretch back up to the road was even worse than the morning, so we ended up walking out on that stretch - cycled back to Dalwhinnie from there, by head torch (and my bike's front light) but had to take it slow due to frequent ice patches. Total time ended up being 9h 48min. Tiring day out, but glad to get these done! | mproudfoot | 18/12/2021 |
2/2 - then headed to Bealach Bheithe (drop of ridge just after pt 1104 for easiest descent line) and followed good path to summit. stayed on ridge before dropping down to Allt a'Chaoil-reidhe and footpath, then track for long walk back to Dalwhinnie | wychwood | 04/11/2021 |

Three fantastic days in the Ben Alder forest (wilderness), bagging three Munros (that’s now 120 out of 282) and two Munro Tops.
05/08/20: I cycled in from Dalwhinnie along the north side of Loch Ericht past Loch Pattack to Culra Bothy, where I met Alec McBride.
06/08/20: Me and Alex followed the WalkHighlands route info for Ben Alder, but couldn’t find somewhere suitable to cross (for me to be confident enough to cross) the Allt a’ Bhealaich Bheithe, so we hiked up to the saddle and approach the 1st Munro from the south. The views from Ben Alder (1148m) were stunning south and west across Rannoch Moor. This was followed by the Munro Top of Sron Coire na h-lolaire (956m) then the second day’s Munro of Beinn Bheoil (1019m). Dry all day with some mist blocking the views of Ben Nevis, in all other directions bright blue skies, 09:30hrs all in. Alex hiked out after this, I stayed another night in the Culra Bothy.
07/08/20: I headed up Carn Dearg (1034m) directly from Culra Bothy, thankfu | chillyman8 | 06/08/2020 |
Cycle to Culra Bothy from Dalwhinnie then run 6 Munros: Carn Dearg, Geal-charn, Aonach Beag, Beinn Eibhinn, Ben Alder, Beinn Bheoil

From YHA Loch Ossian, ascent up Carn Dearg and along ridge to Sgor Gaibhre in the hot sun. Followed ridge line along to Being a' Chumhainn, descent into valley for lunch. Up West ridge of Ben Alder for Munro 50 then round to Being Bheoil then into valley for midge fuelled bivvy. | robertgn | 03/08/2019 |
Cycled in from Dalwhinnie to Culra. Hot and sunny, most of the snow from 2 weeks ago now gone. Lots of TGO hikers heading east on the estate track, some looking a bit sunburnt. Up the east ridge and west along over the summit and its top, before returning via Loch a'Bhealach Bheithe | Roblex | 16/05/2019 |

From Dalwhinnie. Walk-cycle to Loch Pattack, track to footbridge near Culra, ascend Beinn Bheoil by north ridge, continuing south via Sron Coire na h-Iolaire to Bealach Breabag, up Sron Bealach Beithe and round corrie rim to Ben Alder summit, crossed plateau to col below Meall an t-Slugain and bivvyed in valley of Uisge Labhair. Ascended Coire a' Charra Bhig to the col at Leabaidh Chrasgach, then up Beinn Eibhinn, returned to col, up Aonach Beag, continued on to Geal-Charn, descended and walked out to Sgor Iutharn, then contoured round above Loch an Sgòir to Diollaid a'Chairn and up Carn Dearg, descended NE to track between Loch Pattack and Culra, walk and cycle return to Dalwhinnie. With SD. | kdbennett | 22/07/2017 |
Filling in a gap. Many years ago I climbed Ben Alder from Loch Ossian YH before I was bagging Munros. The weather forecast was wind on top - Correct, mist on top - Correct, but fine - Incorrect, it started to rain around Culra, and rained until I passed Culra again later in the afternoon. From Dalwhinnie, cycled along Loch Ericht. | dal | 17/06/2017 |

Climbed with Richard from Dalwhinnie. Walked into Culra bothy, ditched kit, climbed Beinn Bheoil then Ben Alder, walked back to Bothy. Total 15.25 hours!! Was difficult finding the summit of Ben Alder due to poor visibility and the walk back from Beinn Alder was 'murderous' due to deep slushy snow and several necessary river crossings/diversions due to overflowing rivers. Poor visibility but no wind. | amcculloch | 16/02/2013 |
267th - Allan - walk in along Loch Ericht from Dalwhinnie. Good snow cover from 900m, dry with moderate winds but visibility reduced during day to 10m on Ben Alder summit. Incredibly long day at 15hr 8min, snow cover of streams made walk out to Culra bothy tricky. | RGibbs | 16/02/2013 |
3rd of 3. It doesn't look much but it's a reasonable trek from Alder. Dropped down through heather to pickup path to bothy and the cycle out. ~57km, ~2000m, ~13hrs. Epic! | bowzi | 25/06/2012 |

With friends. From Dalwhinnie. After climbing Ben Alder we went S and SE from the summit to Bealach Breabag. We climbed up to the summit of Sròn Coire na h-Iolaire and then Beinn Bheòil. We continued northwards for about 1km before descending W to join the stalkers' path we had used to approach Ben Alder. We returned to Dalwhinnie with alternation of walking and cycling from near Culra as we were one bicycle short. One member of the party walked past a bicycle left for him without realising it was there. So recovery of bicycle by car. | pwbellarby | 01/08/2007 |

After a previous failed try from the S with Martin66, a more determined solo attempt on Alder/Bheoil succeeded from Rannoch. Used trainers on track as far as 1st bridge at S end of Loch Ericht. Changed into boots & on to Ben Alder Cottage for quick breather then up to Bealach Breabag. Sron Bealach Beithe & Alder first then back to the col & over Sron Coire na h-Iolaire to Bheoil. Back to the bealach & back by the route of ascent. The extra weight of the trainers was definitely worth it for comfort in the walks in & out. It was very misty above 500m with sunny towards midday. | pwbellarby | 23/06/1985 |
