From Langsett Flouch car park with Richard. Round of Hoar Stones, Horse stone Naze and Outer Edge | Longwojo | 11/08/2023 |
A sunny afternoon walk from the summit of the Woodhead Pass. Hoar Stones, Outer Edge, Margery Hill and Horse Stones. I did this last, left the main path in the dip and cut over to the edge and found a little path that let me up to the stones. A nice summit with the spectacular stones. | meltdiceburg | 13/05/2023 |
Parked in lay-by to the NW on Windle Edge at junction with A628 for Hoar Stones - Howden Edge and Horse Stone Naze SE14109 00590. Route same as Gerry Bowes. | David Evans | 06/11/2022 |
Parked in the car park on the A616 just south of the A628 at SK 201 013. Followed Barnsley Boundary route to Hordron Road, then along it up Hordron Clough and Laund Clough - all easy going. Short pull up to Hoar Stones, then across to the impressive summit tor of Dewey Horse Stone Naze, back to Hoar Stones and then along the nice track on the ridge to the trigs at Outer Edge and Margery Hill. Back down the bridleway all the way to the car park. A splendid warm and sunny day on the Howden Edge. 21km with 500m ascent in about 5h 30m. | silveracorn_alan | 23/03/2022 |
From end of Derwent Reservoir. Horse Stone Naze, then along high ground to Howden Edge. Dropped down over Upper Hey back to Slippery Stones and track to car. With B, B and R. | jenx | 19/01/2022 |
From head of the lochs, Howden water. Walked to Slippery Stones bridge and on up the Derwent valley. Quick stop in delightful Stainery Clough before cutting up to magnificent Horse Stone (Naze) top. Onwards to Hoar Stones-Howden Edge county top before long March around dodgy ground to two trigs (Margery Hill and Outer Edge) then High Stones on HE. Dropped steeply off to collect Upper Hey, before pleasant steeps back to the bridge the parked car. | nordicstar | 19/01/2022 |
15.6 mile walk from Langsett up Cut Gate Path and along to Outer Edge (4th time bagged) and Horse Stones Naze (2nd time bagged) descending into the Derwent Valley and climbing back across the Cut Gate Path back down to Langsett. Perfectly clear and sunny apart from the nearby fog bank that didn't shift all day. Didn't effect us though. A bit boggy from Outer Edge to Horse Stones Naze but not too bad. Didn't see many others apart from around Langsett. 747m ascent. | DanTrig | 17/01/2022 |

From Hoar Stones - Howden Edge. No path. Short grass and heather on ascent. Deep heather and bracken on unpleasant descent down south ridge, round Little Stainery Clough to meet path by River Derwent at confluence with Stainery Clough. | KeithByTheC | 11/06/2021 |

Delightful easy scramble to top of 4m high rock outcrop with wild moorland views. From Outer Edge | Denise | 12/11/2020 |
Cycle to Cranberry Clough from Ladybower Res., bridleway to ridge then wet and peaty path over Outer Edge before easier ground to the fine summit outcrop of layered gritstone. Excellent views on a mild and sunny November day. | RichardM | 12/11/2020 |

Climbed up layers of stone to reach summit. | Bag For Life | 24/07/2020 |
From Hoar Stones. Nice summit for my Sheffield compleation, lay upon it awhile, then descended SSW through deep heather to track. Lovely walk down the Derwent Valley to start - deservedly popular. Now 21 degrees, sunny and breezy. Walk easier terrain and generally more enjoyable than expected. 16 km, 5 hours 45 mins. | Wycombe Wanderer | 24/07/2020 |
Margery Hill, Howden Edge, Upper Hey, Outer Edge, Hoar Stones, Horse Stone Naze | keithouk | 12/07/2020 |
Pulled car off the A628 at SE 15338 00097, the laybay closer to Barnsley is closed off. There are a lot of road works on the road towards Manchester. Up the track that leads past the remains of the Lady Cross but cut off left at SK 15354 99969. Then it was across the moor to Horse Stone Naze. Poor ground, heather, billberry, marsh grass and hump grass mainly, a couple of streams to cross and a few gripes to get over. Eventually reached the Naze tor. It's an easy scramble to the top, about 10 feet. Most difficult part is a step across from one part of the tor to the other part. Return was basicaly the same as the way I had come but not quite the same. Difficult to see where I had been on the way up. Saw a party, on what I guess was Howden Edge. They seemed to be following social distancing. Also saw several hares and heard plenty of curlews. | MikeM | 09/06/2020 |
Hoar Stones - Howden Edge > Horse Stone Naze from GR: at SE 14711 00252 | ronaldo333 | 07/03/2020 |
From SE 1827 0118. Hoar Stones -> Horse Stone Naze -> Outer Edge, and return, 10 miles. Only real heather bashing was between 2nd and 3rd hills, otherwise tracks, of varying degree of wet peat. | jonglew | 30/12/2019 |

Parked in the car park on the A616 just south of the A628 at Langsett and did a circuit of Margery Hill, Howden Edge, Upper Hey, Outer Edge, Hoar Stones and Horse Stone Naze. 6h 33m for 17.3 miles although one or two slight navigational errors. | clivevilla | 20/08/2019 |
Drove from Mcr Airport and met Dave early at Langsett reservoir carpark. Dry warm day, saw no other walkers after Margery Hill. | Skip | 03/08/2019 |

Shooters path from 15068 96925 on north side of Lands Clough. Path swings left to 2nd line of butts. Follow to 3rd butt then not to bad thru grass/heather. At top swing SSE using dried up peat gullies to 15688 97441 then NE to tor. | daddybond | 04/08/2017 |
Very distinctive top unlike Howden Edge . Saw 4 mountain hares on route today. Descended via Grouse Butts and knee high heather to infant River Derwent which is very different 40 miles down the valley near home. Then a very long walk out back to Fairhomes at the top end of Ladybower | Mark Sims | 07/05/2017 |
Nice rocky tor. From Windle Edge Road. | Alan Caine | 04/05/2017 |
From junction with minor road at Woodhead Pass over to Lady Cross then cross country on very wet terrain to Barnsley unitary top and on to High Horse Naze (nice little tor). Returned same way but came down Long Grough near end. | SS | 04/09/2016 |
5th top of 7 today on a route from Fairholmes visitor centre to Dunford bridge. I Climbed Upper Hey, Howden edge, Margery Hill and Outer Edge before dropping down to pass close to the Crow stones, over Stainery Clough. I got a bit disorientated and missed summit having forgot that I Was actually climbing the summit while I Was at the co. Border having Climbed up and down several peat hags So went out and back again to the awe inspiring top. One of the best summits I've visited for a while amidst real solitude. | Dazingdale | 23/08/2016 |
