From Assycombe Hill, returning to the road by the track over Merripit Hill. White Ridge is Dartmoor’s answer to Mungrisdale Common: on paper, a dull walk, but actually a surprisingly enjoyable exercise in striding out across the grass, with tors and points of interest visible all around. | Nick Down1 | 13/07/2019 |
easy going on a sunny evening | cjo | 30/03/2019 |
Sunny moorland walk after parking by track to the SSE then bagged Assycombe Hill and White Ridge. | Dugswell2 | 29/03/2019 |
With Jenx and Bryher from Warren House Inn on the B3212. Nice dry lines to top with expansive views inc Water Hill and Assycombe Hill Found out later that we had just missed the lesser spotted Doug skulking through the grass just earlier in the morning :-) | nordicstar | 29/03/2019 |
Beautiful day for strolling on the moor. | jenx | 29/03/2019 |
On a glorious morning walk with Assycombe Hill | Poolton123 | 29/09/2018 |
Enjoyable drive/walk circular route in cloudy weather with one short shower. Excellent visibility. Hitched a lift to Warren House Inn from Postbridge, ascended Winter Hill then fast path to stile and on to overgrown stone row and on the invisible cairn. Took a bearing to flat, featureless summit plateau, a worn patch at the given GR indicating the summit - but I wouldn't bet my life on that! Great views in clear visibility. | Dartmoorman | 17/07/2018 |
From Fernworthy Forest, good parking at SX 6607 8367. Track runs SSE to edge of forest for Assycombe Hill, then followed edge of forest to here. On to Cut Hill and others. Thankfully very dry underfoot, but very hot. | jonglew | 27/06/2018 |
From Bennett Cross via Assycombe Hill. My 2000th tump, only 50yrs after the first! | Moorponder | 21/06/2018 |
A sparse dusting of hail stones echoed its name. It's a bleak boggy place with no distinct HP . Returned to carpark near Scatts Bridge | Denise | 11/02/2018 |
From Assycombe Hill along edge of forest. An expansive essentially level area of rough grass, wet in places. | RichardM | 11/02/2018 |
Solo. From Postbridge. Sittaford Tor, White Ridge & Assycombe Hill. Back over Merripit Hill (449m). | Dangerous Dave | 09/06/2017 |
Continuation from Assycombe Hill. Headed west along the forest edge to a stream, then up onto the flat plateau. To descend, took gate into forest north-east of the plateau, then tracks down north to the lane, then east back to the car park. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 01/05/2017 |
Parking area opposite the East Dart Hotel in Postbridge - Up RoW for about 3km & then NE, making use of any available tracks/paths/trods, to unmarked summit. Tussock grass in area surrounding summit. (PM) | gerrybowes | 22/04/2017 |

As Moorsman. Pleasant walk. | destaylor | 11/06/2015 |
Easy parking in Fernworthy Forest from where a good forest track leads to the edge of the trees. Go through a gate and follow a track almost to the top. The final 200 yards are guesswork, but otherwise an easy walk. | moorsman | 22/08/2014 |
Started on track just W of Warren House Inn. | Chris Peart | 29/07/2014 |

On CUHWC Dartmoor trip as part of a 47km traipse from Postbridge all the way to Yes Tor, High Willhays and back. Took in White Ridge and Hangingstone Hill on way out, Cut Hill and Higher White Tor on way back. Bogs mostly frozen, fortunately. | Mark Jackson | 11/02/2012 |
CUHWC Dartmoor Trip. Same as Mark. What a day! | AGWilliamson | 11/02/2012 |
Walked up from Postbridge in strong winds, driving hail and six inches of snow. Not a sign of life anywhere. Views of the moors under snow were excellent. | Herbert Anchovy | 31/03/2010 |
Ascent made 3/4 mile NE of Warren House Inn. I went over Assycombe Hill and on to White Ridge. The top is unmarked. On the return to the car there was a heavy snow shower giving a dusting. | isabelle | 19/12/2009 |
Don't even attempt to find this top in poor weather! Use a GPS and even then it's debatable where the highest point is!!! | Ianto&Sue | 16/03/2009 |
500m Dewey & 400m tops circuit with Lesley from Postbridge (B&B). White Ridge - Assycombe Hill - Birch Tor -Challacombe Down -Hameldown - then back on lanes & through forest. | Chris Pearson | 19/02/2009 |
Nothing special no rocky outcrop and a long slog over wet ground to get here | Rhayader_wander | 26/05/2007 |
A long walk from Bellever, taking in Hameldon, Hockney Tor, Challacombe Down, Birch Tor, Assycombe Hill, White Ridge and Merripit Hill. I didn't enjoy this one, very boggy and Fernworthy Forest spooks me out for some reason. | Jake994 | 01/08/2006 |
