Three fantastic days in the Ben Alder forest (wilderness), bagging three Munros (that’s now 120 out of 282) and two Munro Tops. 05/08/20: I cycled in from Dalwhinnie along the north side of Loch Ericht past Loch Pattack to Culra Bothy, where I met Alec McBride. 06/08/20: Me and Alex followed the WalkHighlands route info for Ben Alder, but couldn’t find somewhere suitable to cross (for me to be confident enough to cross) the Allt a’ Bhealaich Bheithe, so we hiked up to the saddle and approach the 1st Munro from the south. The views from Ben Alder (1148m) were stunning south and west across Rannoch Moor. This was followed by the Munro Top of Sron Coire na h-lolaire (956m) then the second day’s Munro of Beinn Bheoil (1019m). Dry all day with some mist blocking the views of Ben Nevis, in all other directions bright blue skies, 09:30hrs all in. Alex hiked out after this, I stayed another night in the Culra Bothy. 07/08/20: I headed up Carn Dearg (1034m) directly from Culra Bothy, thankfuchillyman807/08/2020

We climbed up steeply to join the SW ridge of Beinn a' Chlachair and so to the summit. We descended by the NE ridge and went back to the camp site. Cycled out to Dalwhinnie.pwbellarby07/07/2004

Sleeper train bike/hike. From Culra bothyStrathcarron27/05/1994
Reached from Geal Charn after a traverse of the ridges to Beinn Eibhinn and back. This leg was quite an adventure as the cornice where Geal Charn's NE ridge steepens was very unstable and, although kicked into, had slopes of about 50 deg. As we came up Lancet Edge early in the day, I'd spotted this, and a traverse across a shelf to the ridge which we decided to take, but it still involved a 30 foot long crossing of easily a 30 deg snow slope. Without ice axe and crampons, we took a detached fence post for balance (the snow was too soft for crampons to be much use anyway). After this excitement, we walked along an easy and in places delightful ridge over this Munro top and on to Carn Dearg. With brother, Pete.pwheeler25/05/1994

With a friend. We walked from Loch Ossian YH along the south side of Loch Ossian (noisy herons nesting in trees on island). Then along the Uisge Labhair path. At the top of Bealach Dubh we took to the slopes NE to Sgor Iutharn. We followed a contouring shelf with little lochs to Diollaid a' Chairn. We went on to Carn Dearg, back to Diollaid a' Chairn and on to Geal-Charn, Aonach Beag, Beinn Eibhinn, (actually 2 tops; it looks as though the 1974 Ed top is the SE one whilst the 1980 Ed top is NW), Mullach Coire nan Nead, and Meall Ghlas Choire. Back to the YH. A superb day. Fine with light breezes and not too hot.pwbellarby07/07/1984
