Having waited 3 days for fine weather set off with Joyce to do my last Birkett Great Howe. Lovely weather so made a day of it from Sadgill Bridge via the Gatescarth Pass road, bridleway and over Tarn Crag and Grey Crag. Fabulous views and a great walk with an easy descent to finish.BURGESS17/07/2023

From Sadgill. 9.5 km, 530 m asc. NW up the steep slope to Great Howe and continuing to Grey Crag (Sleddale Fell). NE across the Greycrag Tarn bog to Tarn Crag (Sleddale) summit and the survey pillar. Continue down to Brownhowe Bottom to join the Gatescarth Pass track back to Sadgill. Dry, too windy for the intended route up to Harter Fell and back by Kentmere Pike. https://www.flickr.com/photos/samandjo/albums/72177720300138979SalmonJoe17/06/2022

Decided to give Branstree a miss and descended on grass to Brownhowe Bottom where we joined Gatescarth Pass for two mile walk down to Sadgill. Warm sunny cloudless day.Skip20/03/2022

Only my second time up here, I’ve not been up since 2007. Decided to try the direct approach up the steep flanks from the track just north of Sadgill. I’ll take the path from the parking area next time, as nothing nice about this approach. Solo.Dangerous Dave23/09/2021
