Another great day picking up Birketts on these hills of solitude!! The day started off misty, then cleared and we had an extended light rain shower in the afternoon as we walked from Whitfell to Plough Fell. Plus, we had the added bonus of spotting a meadow pipit clutch of eggs. A happy day of bagging indeed!! | morgs4mountains | 12/05/2021 |

The Birketts Southern fells WHI-3
Started layby on corny fell road. GREAT PADDY CRAG- BUCK BARROW-KINMONT BUCK BARROW - BURN MORE- WHITFELL (Additional peak) PLOUGH FELL-STONESIDE HILL.
Low cloud, sun later, tops confusing in mist and after easy path at start very few paths with walking on tussocky grass made it hard going in places. Views lovely when clear. | Hill Wanderer | 13/07/2019 |

From SW, contouring Buck Barrow. Enjoyed the view towards the Coniston fells, lots of greys and browns and mountainous silhouettes. Devoured a Higginson's of Grange steak & kidney pie at the end. | Wycombe Wanderer | 16/02/2019 |
On the Birkett walk taking in Buckbarrow etc

Weather was mainly dry but mist at approx 1500ft | johnjennison | 21/08/2018 |
Detour after Buck Barrow while doing Wainwrights Whitfell walk (OF walk 35). A few feint sheep and quad bike tracks, but hard to follow, so suggest easiest is to just take direct route to top through tufty grass. Pathetic small cairn on flat grassy top, but excellent small rock outcrop just to NNE of summit which is ideal for picnic lunch and enjoying the extensive views to the north. Very quiet, expect only the occasional Birkett bagger ever ventures to this top as its not really on a route to anywhere and has no paths. | Hillsidenick | 05/08/2018 |
From Whitfell, picked off returning to the car at SD 1496 8963. A wet afternoon. | jonglew | 16/07/2018 |

WOs 35-43; Bs 26-38. Cloudless skies so did a huge day with 9 WOs and 12 Bs. Parked at summit of Fell Road then quickly up and back Stoneside Hill. Excellent walk over Great Paddy Crag, Buckbarrow, out and back to Kinmont Buckbarrow and same to Plough Fell (dull). On over Burn Moor to Whitfell - best views of whole trip - and pitched camp under Stainton Pike. Joyce set up camp while I did Stainton Pike, then horrid boggy walk out to The Knott and much better back to White Pike, Woodend Heights and Yoadcastle. Walked back to Fell Road next morning in thick mist. | BURGESS | 24/07/2017 |

Pleasant circuit of these fells from the pass. Buck Barrow, Gt Paddy Crag, Kinmont, Burn Moor, Wansfell and back over Plough Fell to road start. Paths about 50% of way, otherwise short grass and furze. Surprisingly dry but a chill Easterly wind. | nordicstar | 22/03/2015 |
