Carn an Fhidhleir & An Sgarsoch from Geldie Lodgegeoffh1227/09/2023
Bike from Linn of Dee to Geldie Lodge. 8 miles and 4 'paddles' - bring a spare pair of shoes! Heather and bog up to Carn and Fhidleir was a slog and under the cloud base. Then, easier going to An Sgarsoch and clear views from the top. Down the grass and heathery slopes (good going though) and back to the lodge. Cycle and 4 more 'paddles' to Linn of Dee.tsharp12/07/2023

2/2 .....descended to col between the summits. Regained height by following path headed SW to shoulder of pt 906, and picked up a good northerly path to E of this minor top and led to summit. Drizzle in cloud above 800m. Reterned to Tarf Hotel initially on ridge then dropped into glen. Overnight at Tarf Hotel and walked out. The walk in was about 5 hours for me. Both Munros from the bothy took 5 hours. Bothy is excellentwychwood13/06/2022

An Sgarsoch and Càrn an Fhidhleir - cycled in from Linn of Dee to Geldie Lodge with John - track rough in parts but none of it too rough for a hardtail mtb. The only parts we dismounted for were the water crossings and, due to a recent dry spell, the only one that required wet feet was the Geldie Burn itself (used a pair of water shoes to cross). Did a little bit of heather-bashing on the hills, but going was good for the most part and we ended up with a time of 7h 18min from Linn of Dee (9:10am departure) and then back to Linn of Dee (4:28pm). Reckon the cycling saved at least 2.5hrs.mproudfoot15/08/2021

I made the long walk in from Blair Atholl to the Falls of Tarf and then ascended Coire na Creige (771m) which was a pathless boggy climb. Then I walked the ridge to the official summit at Braigh Coire Caochan nan Laogh (743m). I was glad the summit wasn't the cairn shown on the OS map as this saved some time! Then along the ridge to Carn Greannach (882m), Druim Sgarsoch (954m) and the main summit of An Sgarsoch (1006m). Then was the difficult bit as next was the second munro, Carn an Fhidhleir (994m). This had looked a big drop on the map but wasn't quite as bad as I feared. I then followed the rivers down to the Tilt valley and then the long walk back. The 61km walk took 17 hours and it was a personal achievement to do it as a single day walk. Cloud free summits.meltdiceburg11/07/2021

After a day's respite after our 3 summits on Grey Corries we had moved to Braemar. We set off from Linn of Dee by bike into a stiff breeze traversing the level track to the first of two significant river crossings, passing Geldie Lodge. Rob removed his socks and was rapidly cooled before we started the ascents of first An Sarsoch and then Carn an Fhidhleir. The hills were rounded grassy and clear of cloud throughout. Coming down we passed through fields of snow. Reposing streams with bikes and then a strong following wind permitted an almost hysterical rate of traverse of tracks that have given up the kilometres so reluctantly in the morning. Getting back to Braemar our lodge accommodation was ideal.david.walker4011/05/2015

With Anne & Ruth Sinclair. Nice to get a rest on summit of An Sgarsoch before tackling this one. Felt great on the descent but once again feel ill on the steep ascent. Steep sides to this mountain so traversed down to help the knees, felt like a logn way out to Geldie Lodge, but once we got on the bikes an hour saw us back at the car. What a fantastic day out.LizzieG19/07/2013

Climbed with Andy while staying at Ling Hut on DMC trip. Cycled in from Glen Feshie. Reasonable day but some patches of cloud and snow at the top causing poor visibility. A bit unsettling coming off Carn an Fhidhleir as there was a high avalanche risk (few inches of fresh snow on top of ice).amcculloch16/03/2013

Cairngorm Club overnight meet. Came up Glen Feshie the day before and bivvied beside broken down hut at NN906885. I set off at 05:50 to Carn an Fhidhleir or Carn Ealar. Reached the summit in mist. Navigated by compass to An Sgarsoch continuing over deleted top. Descended eastwards and then kept to east bank of Bynack Burn past Bynach Lodge due to burn in spate. Kept on the east side of Geldie Burn and south side of the Dee to reach Muir Cottage at 15:20. No rain since starting at 05:50! I seemed to be the only one to have enjoyed themselves – much tales of rain and wind and woe. Barbecue – 25 yrs anniversary of opening of extension to Muir Hut. 110 yrs of the club.pwbellarby22/06/1997

A contender for the remotest Munro? After yesterday's walk-in from Linn of Dee via the Top Carn Cloich-mhuillin and bivvy in shed near Geldie Lodge, was on top for 10:50. Along shoulder to minor hill then quite a loss of height before ascending to next Munro, An Sgarsoch. Then a 12km walk back out...Aye Jimmy27/07/1995

2 and a half day trek from Blair Atholl- Beinn Dearg- Beinn Bhreac- Carn an Fhidhleir- An Sgarsoch- Tarf Bothy- Blair Atholl. By now a pattern was emerging- good going on short turf and moss above 2700 ft, rough, at times a struggle below that, especially at the bealachs between summits.pwheeler21/05/1995
The best. A brilliant solo Munro adventure.First by mountain bike (hired from Braemar) to these distant hills -dumped at river before Geldie Lodge for bare foot wade then running shoes on - up track then grass to run along snow fields on ridge and north facing crests -no axe with me - just grippy Walsh fell shoe studs - exhilarating. Map blew away ! sad loss of a friend of many tops - but luckily I had memorised today's tops and weather was clear. Along to An Sgarsoch then slid and dug heels in on snow slopes down, with a sharp rock to be used as an improvised axe should I need it. Stuck to snow banks above burn to distant bike which whisked me down the track and to Braemar. Muddy, tired & delighted/ Alan & Robin waiting for me -straight into their car and away for long drive back to Sheffield. Had climbed Polyphemus Gully on Lochnagar day before with Alan - a Grade 5 in perfect conditions. What a weekend.Chris Pearson02/04/1995
