Second of 6 Simms on a linear walk from Shenval to Corgarff.NormanW01/10/2023
Delightful weather for the first day of October, and just superb to be up at a height in such an impressive area as this.Alex C01/10/2023
Roadside parking on the A939 by Shenval. There is what seems to be a chambered cairn at the start of the track but not marked on the map! Good track all the way to the summit. With Alex C.Dangerous Dave01/10/2023
Easy from estate track near Bridge of Gaire. Bridge was closed and would have entailed a long detour to get to the start at Shenval ruin. However, bridge was going to be reopened 2 days later so workers let me drive through.Kiltie04/11/2022

A 9 top round from near ordgarff left bike at shenval for the return back along the road/track. tom a gharraidh, carn mor, carn leac saighdeir, camock hill, the Ca, carn a bhacain, fox cairn, carn a bhacain NE top, hill of tornahaish.robertphillips17/07/2022
Plenty of parking space at the ruined house at Shenval. Great track to the 707m top, then a fence climbs to Carn a Bhacain, animals have forced a track beside it, handy. I returned to the 707m top and quite easily followed atv lines and animal tracks to Fox Cairn. On the ascent i had noticed a path going right into Coire an t-slugain, not sure what made this path as no sign of sheep or deer, but its good and leads back to the western track shown on map. Great pair of hills, Morven looks a beast from here, great memories of that one.hils14/05/2022
Parked on verge at Shenval (NJ304017), took the track heading NW up hill, forked uphill at NJ300025 (where an older track joins), continuing up to near the the 707m spot height and the end of the track at an unmapped fence, followed the fence N to the summit of Carn a' Bhacain, returned along the fence, passing W of the 707m point, continued across the gully at the head of Coire an t-Slugain, to near the summit of Fox Cairn and the short distance across heather to the summit, returned down tho the gully and took an old and narrow foottrack from the gulley contouring around the N side of Coire an t-Slugain, meeting the old ATV track at about NJ295030, followed it down to the fork and thence back to Shenval (2h25m)kdbennett29/03/2022
Followed fence N from Fox Cairn.187lenny12/12/2021
Parked in a layby at the highest point of the A939. Followed an ATV track across boggy ground, then over the E top hillock and steeply up to the cairn. Continued to Camock Hill.LizH24/11/2021
1 of 6: Parked at Shenval. Looking down from high up on the RH fork we saw an ex army truck below us. It turned and grouse shooters and dogs got out. They made no attempt to attract our attention so we continued north. With Karen.ChrisR15/11/2021

My weekly teaching visit to Crathie still presents a 'spoilt for choice' after work bagging opportunity - although early November darkness falling at 4.40pm whilst still up high guarantees an added twist. A sunny 3.30pm road top start in a bitter wind - wore two of everything and hat & gloves. This afternoon/evening/night's plan - which worked well thanks to 'scooting' along when possible - was for 4 tops in the 70 minutes of daylight / twilight -hoping to reach the easy going track by darkness for top 5 with trig- and long track descent by torch.I was carrying 3(!) torches (2 for back up) as although it feels exhilarating to be up there in the dark alone for a short while, its also very nice to be able to get down again. This hill easy enough up fence line and short heather to provide a useful sheltered warm up. White hares hinting that the first winter dusting can't be long in coming. (3 days later as it happened)Chris Pearson16/11/2020
Solo. From the lay-by at the high point of the A939 road to the NE. Over Carn a' Bhacain NE Top and following a fence most of the way. Found a slightly easier route on the way down by taking an ATV track to a gate at a parking area a little SE of the high point on the road. A beautiful day; no rain; no wind.pwbellarby07/11/2020
A short and easy afternoon stroll up the track from Shenval. Incredibly cold and windy but glorious views to Ben Avon, Lochnager, Morven, Mount Keen and all the hills in between.Gill08/01/2020
With Jenx and Bryher from road high point plus sub Dewey. Straight up the fence line, nice and quick in snowy conditions.nordicstar24/01/2019
A quick dash as it was getting dark.jenx24/01/2019

A west to east round from Carn Oighreag to Bhacain and back over The Ca and Carn Leac Seigalear to starting point at end of military road east of Cock Bridge. Quite a decent day for weather and a good walk.dickscroop21/02/2017
