8.8 mile circular from small car park below Sron na Gaoithe. Up steeply contouring Sron na Gaoithe then easy grassy tracks up to Glas Maol's broad summit. From here we retraced our steps a little but then headed onto Cairn of Claise and finally Carn an Tuirc descending steeply to the path to Carn an Tuirc hut then following this back to car park. Amazing patchwork/sunny conditions with a light breeze. Great views especially from Cairn of Claise. From the Fife Lomonds south to Ben Macdui/Braeriach north. 760m ascent. Two tricky bits, on the ascent to Carn an Tuirc and the return leg on the west slope of Glas Maol where I had to use by cheap, but practical crampons. Also I saw several Ptarmigans and Mountain Hares.chillyman830/12/2018

After ascending Carn Dubh. From Carn Dubh descended SE on track that comes over the summit area. There are several shooting butts adjacent to the track which ascends a little way up Carn an Tuirc. I used a path of sorts which continues up to the summit plateau of Carn an Tuirc from the last shooting butt. Summit cairn of Carn an Tuirc is clearly not the highest point as confirmed by the surveying. Adjacent to the main cairn is another, much smaller one as well as stones forming a shelter. Solo. I had intended to ascend Creag Leacach, but couldn’t find anywhere to park, because of the snow. The ski parking areas were completely full. I left the car at the parking area near the bridge at NO145805. Crossed the bridge and walked on the track on the other side to the old bridge. Then I went ENE towards the old skiing area and up NW slopes to reach the summit of Carn an Tuirc. There was much snow, making it difficult going, especially low down. With friends. Raining in the morning so a delayed start. We went to the Fife Arms in Braemar expecting to be able to get some coffee. None was available due to flooding so we sat and chatted. Went to Glen Clunie, leaving the cars in the car park at 145806. We ascended the Monega Pass path, avoiding Sròn na Gaoithe to the NE. I went on alone to Druim Mòr and then ascended to Cairn of Claise to rejoin the others there. We walked eastwards to Tom Buidhe. Then to Tolmount avoiding too much descent by going somewhat westwards. We ascended Carn an Tuirc. On the final climb up it rained and from the summit onwards thunderstorms produced considerable rain so we were very wet by the time we reached the cars. Solo 6 Munro round from A93 N of the Glenshee summit on a frosty, cold day. Left road at NO147799, crossed bridge & followed track to about 700m, then directly to top of Carn an Tuirc. Contoured round to Cairn Of Claise, out & back to Druim Mor & then Glas Maol. Dropped to Little Glas Maol, contoured round to Creag Leacach & its SW top. Back over underneath Glas Maol, over Meall Odhar to the ski car park. Crossed road, up Cairnwell watching a skier whizz past until he ran out of snow: his skis stuck in the heather while he carried on head first! Across to Carn Aosda & then NE directly to the car as it got dark.NotReallyABagger22/01/1989
