With friend. From Spittal of Glenmuick on bikes to Glas-allt-Shiel. Objective: all Munro tops of Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch. After Broad Cairn, Craig of Gowal, Crow Craigies, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch. Continued SE aiming for the Munro top called Cairn of Gowal. We came to a point where there was higher ground on our left but a cairn on a summit point SE of where we were, which we decided to go to. However, when we turned round and faced the way we had come we realised that the high ground we had by-passed was higher than where we were. Subsequent examination of various editions of Munro’s tables and maps showed that the top where we were was where the Munro top called Cairn of Gowal height 983m stood as listed in editions of Munro’s tables from 1974 to 1990. However, the 1997 edition gives a relocated position at height of 991m on the high ground we had bypassed. So we went back to the summit of the 991m top. We finished with Creag an Dubh-loch.pwbellarby06/09/2013
