While staying in Kirriemuir with Nikko Lim, we parked at Glen Doll ranger car park The route up Glen Clova was interesting (my first time, up that way). We bagged Broad Cairn (998m), my 200th Munro and Creag an Dubh-loch (983m), Nikko's 1st Munro Top. The views into Glen Muick and over Dubh Loch were something else. Long day though 9:16hrs all in.chillyman818/02/2024

I thought the top of the large brain like rock on the summit plateau was higher than the large pointed one. The pointed one made for a fun ascent using the wobbly balanced stone step.RichardM18/04/2023
Parked at the Spittal of Glenmuick (£5 cash/card in machine). Took the track on the N side of loch and up to above the Falls of the Glasallt from where a stalkers path goes up the SE ridge to Creag a Ghlas-uillt. From there the walk around the top of Allt an Dubh-loch valley opens up - Eagles Rock, Carn a'Choire Bhoidheach, Carn an t-Sagairt Beag, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch, Cairn of Gowal, Creag an Dubh-loch, Broad Cairn - and follows the track back down on the S side of Loch Muick. Long day with a cold wind but wonderful views. With Gillian, Tony, Richard and Denise, although R&D split off at times with different peak objectives, meeting up again finally below Broad Cairn.richard6918/04/2023

On the TGO Challenge with Sue - Hill 26, when we puzzled other Challengers by zigzagging up some of the Munro Tops in the area before heading up Broad Cairn.Phreerunner18/05/2015
With friend. From Spittal of Glenmuick on bikes to Glas-allt-Shiel. Objective: all Munro tops of Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch. After Broad Cairn, Craig of Gowal, Crow Craigies, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch, Cairn of Gowal (983m), Cairn of Gowal (991m). We finished with Creag an Dubh-loch. We reached the summit cairn and it was now becoming misty. We continued a little further NNW as the ground seemed as though it might be getting slightly higher. We saw a large boulder, the top of which might be higher than where the summit cairn is. On a walk many years previously I had seen this boulder and made attempts to climb it. We now headed down NW so as to get round the cliffs of Creag an Dubh-loch and reach Dubh Loch. Up to now the ground had made for easy walking with short grass or heather but now it was getting rougher and was generally quite hard going. It was a relief to reach the proper path and after that we came out of the mist and made rapid progress to Glas-allt-Shiel.pwbellarby06/09/2013

Solo. From car park at Spittal of Glenmuick. Walked on the track beside Loch Muick on the south side, and then climbing up to a small hut. Sheltered inside the hut (hay and droppings) and had lunch. It was raining and there was a high wind. Continued to reach the summit of Broad Cairn. The wind was increasingly strong, but the rain eased off. Went on to summit of Creag an Dubh-loch. Cairngorm Club meet. With Geraldine Guest, Robin Howie. We left Spittal of Glenmuick and walked via the track to the south of Loch Muick to Broad Cairn. We went on to Creag an Dubh-loch and continued to Cairn of Gowal, Carn Bannoch, Craig of Gowal and down to the quarry near Braedownie in Glen Clova. Mist was continuous from the start to coming off Craig of Gowal when it gradually lifted. There was soft snow on the ground, but not deep, from the start to Bachnagairn. There was falling snow while on the tops.pwbellarby24/04/1983
Cairngorm Club meet with Jonathan Bellarby, David Moseley. From Auchallater. After ascending Carn an t-Sagairt Mór, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch and Cairn of Gowal we went on to Craig of Gowal and Creag an Dubh-loch. We had some fun trying to climb a boulder whose top might be higher than the summit cairn of Creag an Dubh-loch. Went on to Broad Cairn and Spittal of Glenmuick . It was bright with clear weather all day. There was some mist seen on Carn an Tuirc etc but it did not reach us. There were snow patches and it was icy on the ground.pwbellarby25/10/1981
