From the edge of Newburgh past the water installation and along the waymarked RoW through pony fields to an almost hidden corner with two gates. Once in the whins there is a good path climbing steeply which takes you to the top. Through fields and then over a barbed wire /Electric combo with the electric strand protected by a blue pipe and the barbed wire by a fertiliser bag. Another narrow path through the gorse to the top. I returned by heading south down a faint path through oak woods before picking up a path leading to the field with the protected exit from earlier. Lovely weather and views.fasgadh30/01/2024
Parked in large car park at East end of Newburgh where coastal path ends.Followed route on Fife walking site. At the summit area go round the BWF until seeing a blue pipe laid over the wire. The stile has collapsed, but squeezing through the protected wire is easy. There is a small wooden swing gate that leads to a path to the summit.Thankfully the bracken was mainly died back. Siren sounded for quarry blasting.Hirta06/10/2023
Hardcore parking at NO226171. Circled initial gorse on R, on ATV tk, then ATV tk up through cut passage in gorse to old rusty gate. ATV continues to top L corner of field where over gate into small new plantation of oak. At far end, rocks on R assist over BWF and a thin path winds up through the gorseIsbjorn25/09/2023

From Nigel’s bench. Through cattle fields then up path through the gorse. There are several paths in the gorse going in different directions from the summit. Golf club still there.Adrian26/08/2022
Weather fair.MountainMac20/08/2022
Followed Nigel Morters' route from the parking spot opposite the bench (thanks, Nigel). The path through the gorse is so overgrown it is almost invisible from a stile NE of the summit along the stone boundary wall, then tunnelling inwards and upwards. There are a few yards of spiky torment where the route goes over partially flattened gorse before the jaunty golf club on the summit cairn comes into view.Nick Down104/10/2021
From Newburgh High Street, under the railway, picking up ROW signs through the housing estate to the west of the quarry. These led us through a field of shetland ponies onto more open land, then over a gate, through a new woodland planting, gorse, and finally a big cairned summit. Great vista along and across the Tay.summitter26/02/2021
Parking at 227173 near bench west of hill having moved it 300m north under advice from farmer about to move his cattle up the road. Up field track exit via gate to top field, quick hop over BWF into a faint path through the gorse topping the hill, easier than it looked to pick a route up. Very large cairn topped bizarrely with a golf club. 1/3 HuMPN.Morters16/10/2020
Up round the quarry and down by the waterworks. Summit 'path' entertaining as currently hidden by 3' high bracken, so probably easier outwith the bracken season.daviemore19/08/2020
Circular walk from Newburgh taking in Ormiston Hill, Lumbennie Hill and Black Hill. Secret to this one is to find the path up through the gorse. Nice viewpoint.benalder28420/06/2020
Parked off the road opposite a gate, to the west of the summit. Followed a muddy vehicle track from the gate, then across a field to another gate at the top corner. Further up through a third open gate, then 60m further on spotted a path up through the gorse to the summit. Returned by the path that reaches the fence adjacent to the summit, going through a small 'walkers'gate to rejoin our upwards route. Return route circled the summit, but was better.LizH24/11/2019
Straightforward from the north (229178). Barb wire and gorse bushes avoided by using stile/gate at 234172 followed by path to summitFife Walking12/10/2019
If you can squeeze through a 120mm wire fence with two rows of barbed wire just two metres from the large summit Cairn you will reach your target. Farmer has just tightened wires. Skinniest rule or take a pair of steps. Only one way to get to Cairn other than scrambling through gorse bushes. Hill apart from that a piece of cake. The Rodmiester20/05/2019
From 226171 - easy till near summit with some gorse and barbed wire. Don't try to descend a different way, I fought gorse before reverting to original way up.NormanW27/04/2017
Room for 3 cars on verge at 226171, then back up road to a gate. The up fields and final approach from ESE to avoid gorse. There is a serious barbed wire fence 2 m from summit cairn. Superb views up and down the Tay.Thearlaichdubh28/03/2016
Easy from the north if you go the best way, which we didn't. Parked at NO229178. The map suggests a path east from the car which isn't so good. Best to begin by going straight up to the water works, then left through the top of the field with ponies (marked path). Then right straight up hill. At col at NO233173 go through first gate but then ignore tempting second gate on right and carry on to small stile and small wooden gate to find the path through the gorse all the way up. I hope no-one minds the plagiarism...Pete R20/02/2016
from minor road to the west, up through fields to the stile, up through gorse to the top.robertphillips20/02/2015
Through the fields from NO226170 to the corner of a field at NO233173. Go east for 40m and the path to the cairn is easily seen. Otherwise it's hell trying to get to the cairn!Play2End04/02/2015
From N, Newburgh, up to water works, then left through field with ponies (marked path). Then right straight up hill. Straight on at 1st gate, then R over 2nd. Easy climb over fence to small path through gorse and bracken to summit.Minto27/09/2014
Bagged with Jim Bloomer on a sunny afternoon before dinner with Alison and Tricky in Wormit.Dugswell223/05/2014
Easy from the north if you go the best way, which I didn't. Ok parking at NO229178. Path is pretty good, at col at NO233173 go through first gate but then ignore tempting second gate on right and carry on to small stile and small wooden gate to find the path through the gorse all the way up.alda25/02/2014
Walked to hill from Abernethie via Lumbennie Hill. Found easy track to top from North, coming up from direction of Newburgh.russell6126/02/2013
Parked at junction 1k SSE. Southern approach reasonable despite gorse. Decent views North.agentmancuso02/04/2011
Much trickier hill than it looked owing to a huge amount of impenetrable gorse to three sides, I parked to the west but in retrospect the route from the south would have been better. Approach the summit from the East. Routes from West look promising but dandy15/05/2010
Parked at cottages SW of Gallow Knowe. Horrendous gorse all over the top of the hill but there is a track and then path (which needs a good pair of seccateurs)chrisbien08/05/2010
One previous ascent of unrecorded date.Topographer5712/10/2009
fine summit, big cairn, nice view. good path from 230177, well used but vague start, at col look for gate & path thru gorse RHW25/12/2003
Stile and gate in the final fences worth seeking out to avoid the gorse! On N and E side of summit area.Belfarm blank
