On forest tracks from road to the north, then up through heather to summit. | Winterfloodian | 14/01/2024 |
From Auchinleish - no forestry work so parked tight to the barn. More or less followed Jossker's route to Cairn Gibbs before heading down to Auchinleish. Given where the heather and grass areas are, definitely easiest doing the round anti-clockwise. | StueyB | 06/10/2023 |
From Auchinleish. Had planned to park beside the wooden barn located in gap between the wooded areas and walk up path to bealach between Meall Mor and Cairn Gibbs shown on OS map. However, forestry clearing work was underway and couldn't park at barn. Managed to find a small space at side of road outside next house just along the road. The path shown on map wasn't very definitive either on the ground and I gave up trying to follow it and instead headed up grassy slopes to top of Meall Beag. From there went west through short heather and picked up a track heading uphill to a net covered pen before heading uphill on pathless ground to reach dyke on ridgeline that lead to cairn at top. Was heading over to Cairn Gibbs from here and followed the dyke steeply downhill to bealach. Heather was quite deep on this slope and I was glad I hadn't decided to head up to bealach and climb Meall Mor from that direction as originally planned. | Jossker | 24/06/2023 |
From the locked forest gate at 173613. The lock appears mainly to be holding the gate upright and it is easy to go through it on the other side, where the hinges are no longer attached to the gate post. The track leads through the forestry to the NE ridge of Meall Mor. Following the E side of the wall gives some respite from the heather and an easy step over to the summit cairn. | Nick Down1 | 26/03/2023 |
From, quarry parking to N, climbing round edge of forest. | RobertP | 18/03/2023 |
From Auchinleish. Path very difficult to follow in places, better on return with the sun behind me. Took a fairly direct line to the top, a mistake with deep heather. Better is to follow the path almost to the wall where an intermittent quad bike track parallels the wall and leads to the top. | nicolajane | 06/12/2022 |
Rain, sun, wind, rainbows. Up forest track to high point, easily through cleared forest, annoying heather bash to summit. Along ridge to NE on descent by wall – hard going. | Rounsfell | 14/10/2022 |
From end of track at NO 171 609. Higher forestry still shown on OS maps has now been felled making for easier access to the open hillside. | Fife Walking | 25/09/2022 |
Parked at second turn into forest. Clambered ober a high locked gaye….would another gate await ? Second gate at end of forest was open and unlocked. Would not have matteredas the fence is down. Alomg track until reached a stone wall, plodded upwards, holes etc
Another couple of fences…trig lount reached | VerySlowPlodder | 29/08/2022 |
As others from end of forest track 171610, left at the gate and up by the wall, cross the wall at the top then follow wall up to the summit on a vague path to the left of the wall. | JulieB | 02/11/2021 |
1/5 From road to Brewlands, at summit parked by woodland track and climbed to Meall Mor, Cairn Gibbs, Knockton, Druim Dearg then walked back on country lanes to climb Over Craig on North side of road. Tough in places and so many flies! | nickywood1 | 04/07/2021 |
Parked at track end NO171609, walked in on track, round bend to where it passed through a fence, turning left before the fence and followed an old ATV track up beside a wall, continuing by wall after track petered out to where it converged with another wall, carried on to the ridge on the right (SW) side of the merged wall onto the ridge, then bashed through heather along ridge to summit, descended directly NW to cleared forest, picked a felling track down to join main tracks back down to start | kdbennett | 05/06/2021 |
I was lured to NO171610 by Googlemaps, which incorrectly shows a link to the forestry tracks (but see below). Ah well, it gives a circular walk. It's fine walking up the track then up the grassy ATV track into the open heathery section between blocks of forestry. Green path up the S wall to fallen trees then mossy grass between heather. Hop the N wall then step over the fence above and up perfectly fine steep ground to a gap in the wall. Faint path along this to the top, easy to get over the wall to the summit. Down NE ridge to the track and gate, then W fork back towards start. A short off piste section to link to the outward track and someone has cut a large hole in the fence to let you through. | Gill | 16/04/2021 |
From the cattle grid at the high point of the minor road that separates Knockton and Druim Dearg. A reasonable path through the heather leads westwards along the forestry line to the former, then its a simple matter of following fence and wall to Cairn Gibbs and Meall Mor. Returned to the road along the faint track to near Auchinleish. 3hrs in total once back at the car. | summitter | 29/11/2020 |
Parked at the forest access - 172612. Up to the gate and then a faint ATV track to the right leads you vaguely to the stone wall which can be followed to the summit. 1 hour return. Solo. | bolton | 15/09/2020 |
From gate at NO172612 (dozens of pheasants), followed track for 100-200m then branched left, through an unforested area up to a wall, turned right, followed wall for a short distance then headed right via heather and vague tracks to summit. Decent enough viewpoint. | willyross | 28/07/2020 |
From gate at NO 172 612 follow LRT to gate at NO 178 609 from where a path on the right leads up to join the wall and continues all the way to the summit. Easy parking. | ARM | 25/06/2020 |
From east, parked by barn. Up good track for 200m then rough heather and tussocks. Round of 3 hills | cjo | 09/03/2020 |

From Drumore Loch, NO171610 - S, up forest road to fence then L up initial grass ATV track, which soon deteriorates to rough grass and heather steeply up edge of trees. Many hazards along summit ridge - rusty old wire and countless ankle breaker holes hidden in the heather. | Isbjorn | 08/06/2019 |
Up forest track, then left at first junction and along to rough open skirting some fallen trees then directly up to summit cairn. Beautiful views here and on the descent. 42 minutes | Coinneach | 31/03/2019 |

Overcast, warm, cool wind, good views, some higher tops in cloud. | iangalbraith | 02/08/2016 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 18/07/2016 |
Cloud low just skipping the summit and very light rain. Traversed round the side of the forest to the north, easy going but track does exit the forest which didn't show on the map. Large carn and wall | N.Morters | 12/03/2016 |
Up the forest track for five minutes then turn left up the fire break to the summit ridge. Quite unremarkable. | Play2End | 30/10/2015 |
From Auchinleish,with Grant Campbell. | clashcityrocker | 27/09/2015 |
Solo run. Up steep heather in first forest break to summit ridge. Down through blown-down trees to track. | amswanston | 31/10/2014 |
From minor road to the N, up edge of forest to summit. Easy enough. | AndrewFinnimore | 25/09/2014 |
W Ajenx. Main forest track. Gate open but can't drive standard car up due to large drainage humps. Walk to near top of the track, then newer track leading up hill. When levels off stay with it, lots of wind throw block access. At end of track it turns up hill as a path. Some trees to negotiate but soon leads to cairned top. | nordicstar | 29/06/2014 |
Solo. From start of path near Auchinleish. Used path going west and then left path to ascend NW to summit of Meall Beag. Continued to NE ridge of Meall Mòr where there is a wall which I followed to summit. | pwbellarby | 15/04/2014 |
3 of 3 today from loch to good tracks to near top. | robertphillips | 09/03/2014 |

The rain got heavier. Started at Blacklulans on a track that sort of leads you behind the plantations. Struck left uphill through heather when I got bored with the track. Nice cows and black sheep. I bet there is a shorter way up. | Martin R | 20/11/2012 |
Quick bag in the evening from forestry gate at top of pass. | Aye Jimmy | 19/06/2011 |

Lunchtime ascent of this rugged hill from near Drumore Loch, having ascended Blath Bhalg in the morning. | JohnW | 27/10/2008 |
Path from Blacklunans along S side goes close to summit via steep bilberry and a bit of heather. Cairn on top. Very good view. | maknipe | 20/05/2007 |
From small quarry on minor road. Over wire fence, down and over stream and up on deep heather to animal track by forest to a gate in a corner. More trudge to horizon and a crushed track through heather to a second gate. Away up hillside to an old stone wall, crossed over a fallen section and to top half mile further. 16.10. Solitary deer on descent. | arranc | 06/06/2004 |
