From Llyn Geirionydd car park walking the west side of the lake first then ascending from SH 76419 61484. Fallen trees and difficult to follow semi-path. Top is pile of rocks. Decending in a south direction to make a circuit. | Yr Eryr Aur | 23/03/2024 |

from llyn geirionydd to 75498 60695 'path' start small pile stones 2m in from forest track white tapes still present but very faint path | underhill | 25/09/2023 |
With Rufus from Llyn Geirionydd. Forest tracks to SW of summit then narrow track marked with tape/ribbon as others. Absolutely soaked from rain and damp vegetation but really nice summit. | jacobrichmond | 27/09/2022 |
Car at picnic area. Via RoW and tracks to 75513.60693 then a narrow path marked with tape leads onto the ridge and summit. Descent to monument awful. Path overgrown with Heather to start. Then down wood edge steep with fallen trees to negotiate. Out of forest, path hidden in deep bracken. Stumbled slowly downwards. | Moorponder | 06/07/2022 |
South to North traverse, the thin track is very thin and the steep descent to the monument has been devastated by wind-throw! | tim747 | 25/05/2022 |

UTS 50k: Moel Siabod, Clogwyn Bwlch-y-maen, Carnedd y Cribau, Glyder Fawr, Y Garn, Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, Pen yr Helgi Du, Mynydd Deulyn. Totally savage race but incredible. 19th woman. | Fionalevey | 11/09/2021 |
Car park to NNW at SH 7565 6182 - Steady climb up forest track to small pile of stones just inside forest at SH 75495 60697 (mentioned by RichardM) - From here, a path marked with bits of white & some yellow tape heads up the ridge to the summit cairn. Fine viewpoint. (S) | gerrybowes | 20/04/2021 |
From monument, as nordicstar. | PGCE | 29/11/2019 |
From P at SH762604, via (barely noticeable) path at SH75506070, crossed the summit ridge to return via monument at SH764615. | summitsup | 13/04/2019 |
Up from the base of the Craftnant river valley, couldn’t drive up to car park as water main leak being repaired. A bonus as instead we used old mine approach tracks and footpaths. Target the monument for best lines up, avoid bracken season. Upper path along forest edge becomes steep and vegetated, tall heather and old bracken crowd lines. Cairn on top is a pike of stones, not sure its a large cairn as reported on DoBIH though. With Jenx and Bryher | nordicstar | 10/04/2019 |
A beautiful valley. Steep climbing up from the monument. Spiky heather not good for shorts near the top! | jenx | 10/04/2019 |
From Llyn Geirionydd side, following track and then path NE through forest to summit. Started hailing heavily on summit! | JamesD1972 | 25/04/2018 |
Parked at Llyn Crafnant. Walked around Crafnant and Geirionydd and up Mynydd Deulyn. Lovely weather with great views. | Alunrees33 | 25/07/2017 |
I followed the same route as RobertP, from Llyn Geirionydd. Very windy on the summit but great views. | Sprog | 11/06/2017 |
Ascent via old slate quarry starting from the large car park and picnic area at Hafod Arthen. Large cavern at top of spoil is worth a visit. A thin path crosses the summit and descends the SSW ridge to join the forest road at SH 75495 60697. | RichardM | 11/06/2017 |
Small cairn on obvious HP in clearing above pines. We visited in sheeting rain and gusty wind. The huge slate cavern nearby is worth its awkward access. We descended on a narrow path SW to the forest track and thence to the very nice carpark with toilets and picnic tables. | Denise | 11/06/2017 |
Parked at Llyn Crafnant and must have gone up the wrong direction on the forest path because it wound round for about 2 miles going up but no nearrer the summit. Eventually I dived into the heather, bilberries and trees and eventually reached the summit. So, I just went on a bearing to get down thinking it could be no worse. It was ok to start with but ten became very steep with precipices to avoid. Not recommended. | clivevilla | 17/05/2017 |
From car park at S end of Lynn Geirionydd on a miserable day of driving rain. Enjoyable walk though, taking track to high point, then faint path running along ridge through forestry to the summit. Difficult to find the start of the path, but this is opposite a wooden post at SH 75495 60696. There are now white plastic ties as well as red ones to mark the path, so quite a straightforward route to the top. | RobertP | 19/03/2017 |
Parked in the Llyn Crafnant car park then up forest track then accessed ribbon path to the scenic summit on a cool January morning. | Dugswell2 | 27/01/2017 |
Route as pwheeler and others. Thanks to whoever left the Mars bar on the cairn, it went well with my flask of coffee. | Chris Peart | 28/09/2016 |
From the car park north-east of Llyn Crafnant (SH 7566181). Followed forest roads to col where path is shown on the 1/25000 OS map. This sketchy path is marked by a few coloured plastic strips tied to twigs in the woodland. Nice surprise- it's clear over Pt. 382m and on the summit. Lovely views from here- beautiful surroundings, glimpses of bristly ridge when clouds lifted. The base was about 2500 ft but higher E so Arenigs were all clear.Returned via path to col, Llyn Geirionydd and a charming route via an old quarry (don't be put off it's marked as a tip on the map but any signs are long gone). Good 4.6 h walk including lots of stops- with brother Pete | pwheeler | 16/09/2016 |
Crested when walking between the 2 lakes. | Peapod21 | 21/05/2016 |

From Tal-y-Lyn up excellent meandering forestry track to its highest point south of hill ridge which runs N to S. Just beyond highest point of track and slightly on decline a couple of boulders on right hand side indicate a faint path which rises up through forest to south top and then on to summit. Some green ribbons indicate path higher up. | Campbell Singer | 21/01/2016 |
From car park at NW end Llyn Crafnant. On road to SH 75018 60840 where track ascend due S, then SE. Meeting with wide forest vehicle track to SH 75505 60700 where, at a FP marker post, a faint track leads 700m NE through thick heather and bilberry to hill top. Final 30-40m or so sees the track break out of sparse woodland to give unexpected views all round. A much more pleasant spot than anticipated. NB planned to look for the track starting at SH 75268 61282 and leading SE away from the reservoir, but was unable to find any sign of it. | jonglew | 17/09/2015 |
From the car park north-east of Llyn Crafnant (SH 75642 61851). Took the lane along the east side of the lake past the cafe at Cynllwyd, then RoW south-east, joining the track to climb up through the trees by the little path over Pt. 382m to the summit. Path is marked by a few colured plastic strips tied to twigs. Walk continued to Clogwyn Pryfed. With MP on a hill-survey. Hot weather but strong SW wind. | Man of Kernow1 | 10/07/2015 |
Parked at crafnant. Cefn Cyfarwydd, Creigiau Gleision North Top, Creigiau Gleision, Craiglwyn, Craig Wen, Crimpiau and mynydd Deulyn. Was my last hill too complete the Carneddau :) | AlunRees31 | 04/04/2014 |
I took the adventurous route to this hill, directly up through slate spoil from SH759619. Hardly easy, on steep and greasy slate filled runnels but the close up views of the quarry ruins and the huge, stunning caverns quite made up for any discomfort. But definitely not recommended as a descent route - utterly terrifying! | Colin Crawford | 18/01/2014 |
Nighmare! The path was extremely difficult to find and stay on, and it hammered it down too!! As to the orange tags; I spotted 1. I WAS 'head down' all the way cos of the rain though! | hillhiker | 20/10/2013 |
I did this HuMP as part of a walk from Trefriw to Betws-y-Coed and also included the triangle of Tumps over to the southwest, making a total of four Pedwars for the day. | Alex C | 12/08/2013 |
Park at south end of L Geirionydd. Walk up on forest roads to the south of the hill to highest point. Orange tags lead uphill on a narrow path through the wood to the top. (Tags need renewing and increasing in numbers to make it absolutely safe). | arranc | 30/05/2013 |
Bagged after a lovely walk around the 2 lakes in glorious sunshine. Hard work making it to the top as path is very over grown | HillboBaggings | 07/05/2013 |
SH7594361270 | Anton | 10/08/2012 |
Nightmare of a hill. The entrance to the forest track is marked by stones in the ditch. You then follow the orange plastic pieces on the trees all the way to the top. Thanks for whoever did this. | DARRENG | 07/07/2012 |
From car park to SSE. As Peter Fairhurst. | destaylor | 02/01/2012 |
Cycled from my house in Llanrwst. took 1hr as it was alot of accent, left bike at Llyn Geirionydds south end, and followed the road around the to the hills west side continued right at fork at SH754608 then walked to the end of the road and headed E to Su | Rekrab | 09/02/2011 |
Did a whole circuit of this hill from the car park below Llyn Crafnant. Directions of others here were good. Avoid the NE flank of the hill - very steep and craggy, and covered in thick heather and bracken. | Man of Kernow1 | 13/11/2010 |
Did this from north. Not recommended with very deep bracken. There is a path of sorts along the upper fence (if you can get to it) but it was a nightmare. I was right to give it a miss in wet conditions last month. | chriswatson | 01/09/2010 |
Parked at car park a south end of Llyn Geirionydd.
Start of path at highest point of forestry track (SH755606) is difficult to find amongst trees, but is marked with an orange tag. If you reach a firebreak you have gone 15m too far. | PeteF | 10/02/2010 |
fine hill, fine view of hill to E, interesting quarry rems, tough heather hence SE ridge FP easiest. FP via quarry spoil to N, descend NE ridge | RHW | 07/12/2002 |
