Leaving the marathletes behind, I embarked on an arduous circular encompassing Ben Macdui before descending via Loch Avon and up out of this valley back under the shadow of Cairn Gorm to the car park. Utterly abysmal weather (Ben Macdui shrouded in such dense cloud I couldn't make out the summit cairns- careful compass bearings were required), and Glen Avon was really a rather foreboding place under the high crags of Ben Macdui's East 'face'. A very sketchy scramble out of the valley via a waterfall is to be missed- stick to the path... Was out of here pretty quickly.hjb6808/08/2021

Walked as part of a two-day trek through Cairngorms. Started at Cairngorm ski centre car park, up Fiall a Choire Chas (though missed the path and went too far to the West) up onto plateau and then across to Ben Macdui. Descended into Glen Luibeg and wild camped. Fairly good weather with isolated showers for the first part of the day until at summit of Macdui, at which point it started hailing/raining on and off for the remainder of the day. Good views from the plateau between rain showers. Following day was rain and low cloud through the Lairig Ghru and Chalamain Gap. Thoroughly soaked by the time we were back at the Ski Centre! Made the mistake of following the burn around near to the footbridge (allt Craig an Leth Choin?) which was very eroded / non-existent! Should have stayed on the well-maintained path up the hill. Path back up eastern bank to Ski Centre was closed due to erosion, so had to hike up the road from the Sugar Bowl car park.Jonnyiom04/06/2019

From the base at Cairngorm ski centre, we headed out west and south to the base on the Fiacaill Coire An T-Sneachda. This fantastic grade 1 scramble gives amazing veiws over both the Cories an Lochain and T-Sneachda. The scramble was great at times, with climbing moves and very exposed! Once up on Cairn Lochan, we strode out along the plataue, stopping once for some lunch, and made our way up the last ascent to Ben MacDui, the 2nd highest Munro! After taking in the panorama, we b-lined strait towrds the north top, and dropped down to the edge around Loch Avon. Down this side, there were huge patches of snow, we ran, jumped and skied down, we even saw a ski tourist! Coutining round the ridge towards Stob Coire An T-Sneachda, we had to pass a snow birdge, which Jonny broke, and the others had to walk further up! From Fiacaill A' Choire Chais, we had the last 100m shoot up to Cairn Gorm; #7. Some more food, then a long slog down to the top of the Cairngorm Funiculair Mountain Hut, and finByronHaywood20/04/2019
