Parked to SSW near entrance to Maesycwm. Along road for 5 Mins to stile and followed path to top with good views over Builth Wells.PeterD29/11/2023
After failing to find a parking space on Newry Rd, I eventually parked at the lane-end by the Afon Duhonw (SO 05211 49420). Took the lane up steeply to the stile, and then well-graded RoW up the south ridge to the summit. Fine views of the Wye Valley. Return by outward route. 2.5km, with 140m of ascent.Man of Kernow107/05/2023
3rd of three hills on a lovely (mostly) 16.5 miles Wye Valley walk section between Boughrood and Builth. After leaving Banc y Celyn, the section between there and the Afon Duhonw was the worst part of the whole day; overgrown, muddy and very slippery (especially the last section down to the river). Consequently I was running late to fit in the detour to Garth before the last bus back to Cardiff, so this was taken too quickly. Well worth the effort though, the views of the Gwy are amazing from the top.thesweetcheat08/04/2023
As RyParks. Found space to park opposite numbers 25/27 Newry Road - Up to high point of road, over stile & a very pleasant ascent over easy terrain to the trig point. Good hill & great viewpoint. (S)gerrybowes02/12/2021
From Builth Wells, relaxing ascent along the S ridge. Great views and summit meadow rich with wild flowers.RichardM10/06/2021
HP by Trig, possibly on tumulus on grassy ridge with path from road to SW. Curious roman centurion ornament on top. Parked on street in Builth Wells. Rolling green views. Onto Banc Y celyn.Denise 10/06/2021

Delightful viewpoint over the Wye valley after a leisurely walk up from Builth.Alex C18/08/2018
Have walked Garth Hill hundreds of times. My advice would be to park at Newry Road in town, walk the road a mile and a half up the hill until the stile on your left just before a fork in the road. Then take the gradual path up to the summit.RyParks01/05/2018
From Builth via Newry Road and FP. Lveley walk. Great view.Moorponder04/10/2017
A lovely dawn walk. Parked between two gates not far from the start of the footpath. Possibly partly obstructed one but as it was 6.30 on a winter's morning I was fairly sure it would be fine. It was wonderful seeing the landscape gradually reveal itself as the sun rose.Herbert Anchovy21/02/2017
From Builth Wells out and back via minor road.rhalstead18/02/2017
Approached this on the excellent track that leads up from the south. I had read that parking is tricky at the start of the footpath so parked in the town and walked out along the track first before heading north up the hill. A fine hill.Father Ted07/10/2016
Ably assisted by my chauffeur Iain Brown.hardly any rain and a bit windy but an easy before walk up from the south. Hump number 998vegibagger30/12/2015

Short walk up from minor road junc due S. Parking awkward.jonglew04/05/2014
Climbed from A470 - small pull-in. Okay through felled area then hellish with chest high bracken and brambles. I found the footpath on my descent, which helped considerably, but wouldn't recommend an ascent by this route in the bracken season.Chris Peart24/09/2013
From Town centre, via castle mound, Newry Rd, to 050 496 and footpath north to Trig. Stonking views. path down to NNE and through felled woodland to A470 and DANGEROUS half mile on dim wooded no-verge section of roadway, with vehicles doing 60mph plus. Not recommended.dicky06/07/2013

Very cold and snowy. Short walk whilst visiting showground.Rob Pen y Garn23/03/2013
George parked very inconsiderately at beginning of easy path up ridge. Last hill of the day as sun was setting.chriswatson17/11/2012
Parked down the road a bit and approached from the south. 1.5m round trip. Nice hill with bright white trig point.clivevilla19/04/2012
Parked in a lay by on busy A 470. Terrifying walk back for 1/2 mile- no verges on either side - onto a path past a lodge and then - nothing. Paths on the map were non existent, no signs of any sort. this hill should be on the worst ever hill list. Turned west by a BWF on a reasonable track, bur there was no indication of an uphill path. Horrendous thrash through head high bracken, now growing almost to the top of the hill. Glimpses of the sky all turned out to be false dawns. Kept losing the stick or the map case or both when four hands were needed to smash down the bracken in order to get one foot down in front of the other. Lace broke and boot ferrule bent. Occasional brambles cut into flesh and caused tripping. Eventually got a glimpse of the column 6533 and made a weary way to it. 9.20. B Wells below to the west. Faint path due N down through the bracken, a lot easier for most of the way, into forest, turned east by a fence to find a stile! Noise of traffic for a guide. 1 3/4 hoursarranc28/09/2011
I parked about 500m down the hill towards town. Easy saunter, obviously the 'town hill'. Lovely day.Martin R05/08/2011
Impossible to park at the rhb to SSW. Parked 150m along road to NW at a gate but not ideal. Great hill - grass and path all the way.destaylor30/03/2011
Super little view point with limited parking so could well be best to walk from town.Dugswell206/03/2010
