First Hump of 7 today. Parked at the village hall in Bettws Newydd - parking at the church would have been better, but definitely go past the church which has tremendous 2,000 year old yew tree. Hard to find a way into the summit field through thick hedges and vegetation - eventually wriggled through a small hole at approx 371053. Descended through the wood to NW of summit which was definitely not a smart move. | Mark Jackson | 08/07/2023 |
From south end of Bettws Newydd, up to church and followed FP up the hill, into summit pasture and up to trig. | PeterD | 20/03/2022 |
Parked on grass verge by gate/stile at S. end of Bettws Newydd at SO 3606 0556 - Over stile & up RoW, crossing 3 more stiles, to field gate at 371053 - Over gate & an adjacent gate, & then SW & W. alongside hedge to trig point which lies on N. side of hedge. (S) | gerrybowes | 08/11/2021 |
Roadside parking, enough for 2 or 3 cars opposite The Old School House, Bettws Newydd. Stayed with footpaths all the way to north boundary of field with trig and crossed pasture land to the summit and trig. Returned via easterly field corner at 368053 where there are 2 gates either end of a short woodland path that brings you to within site of the stile at 367053 and footpath back to parking. Lovely spring day. | mntainman | 18/04/2021 |
Walked from the hamlet of Bettws Newydd (Great pub but not open this morning), past the church which has the 2,000+ year old Bettws Yew. Took the footpath across the stream and up the steep hill. Climbed through hedge / bw at corner of field and forest. Great views. | Rob Rees | 03/02/2020 |
No problem starting at Hill Farm but you're left in little doubt to keep to RoWs. Fortunately, hay's cut and machinery lay idle on a Saturday afternoon. | Eddie | 13/07/2019 |
Spoke to farmer near top & he was fine with me accessing the trig. | ngthack | 17/08/2018 |
On my way from Abergavenny to Usk today with this hill the main target along the route. | Alex C | 30/09/2017 |
Discreet approach from NW along flooded brook side and then up through very slippy muddy field. Then I encountered farmer who was OK and gave me permission on request to go to TP. Saw him on descent and shouted a thank you and he waved back. Not very communicative but not a GOML. Seeking permission seemed to work. Very very very slippy on muddy field. Wish I had skis!! | Campbell Singer | 02/01/2016 |
Walked from Bettws Newydd using public footpaths although final stretch was off piste around wood and over barb wire fence with Chris Peart and Colin Crawford. | Dugswell2 | 04/07/2015 |
With Doug and Chris. Penultimate Hump in wales | Colin Crawford | 04/07/2015 |
Walk from Bettws Newydd using public footpaths although final stretch required detour because of blocked stiles. | Ramblingpaul | 15/05/2015 |
1/7 Simple climb follow well established tracks and hop fence trig pillar is hidden on edge of hedge ! | Fergalh | 23/11/2014 |
Farmer obviously wants to keep the summit of this hill to himself. Public access to within 300m and then lots of new barbed wire over top of the existing fences. Need to do a little more to deter the determined bagger though. Copious quantities of mud round Hill Farm. | jonglew | 02/12/2012 |
walked up from bettws newydd church path goed up to farm where trigpoint and summit is had to step over fence to cross field to reach summit and trig point. | russf69 | 22/04/2012 |
The farmer is a definite GOML. I made mistake of answering him when asked what I was up to. 'There is no PROW to the top'. So I had to sneak right round and jump a fence. | Martin R | 31/07/2011 |
Parked near top of road to Hill Farm. Went round farm to E and then N. | chrisbien | 09/05/2011 |
Parked to NW. Disappointing. Paths marked on map but difficult to follow. Section between above stream and top had crops over the path. Trig on W side of hedge. | destaylor | 10/09/2010 |
Park at top of road near Hill Farm. | arranc | 27/08/2010 |
From SE. Followed paths then up field edge. | Dusty | 05/04/2010 |
approached from bettws newydd by a series of footpaths that begin past a small stream. this route avoids the farm house. Trig pillar is set in hedgerow of thorns | hodder | 05/01/2009 |
A nice walk up from the NW and good views from the top. Hill Farm is too close. | clivevilla | 03/01/2009 |
Parked at the cross roads to the east where there is a nice area to leave a car. Walked up road, around farm and into field with top and trig. Trig at highest point. | Father Ted | 11/09/2008 |
