Free car park at Inversnaid. Pleasant walk south along WHW to Cailness. Up zigzags on road through woods onto open hillside. Across wet moorland then steeply up to summit. Back same way. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 05/03/2024 |

Kayaked over from Tarbet and walked up on the S side of the Cailness Burn. Bracken, bogs and tussocks but bogs frozen and bracken deid. | sclater | 08/03/2023 |
WHW from Inversnaid. Obvious path up to left just before Cailness cottage, through broken gate and up track to NN 350 065 then direct line to top. Fence marked on OS maps has been sawn off just above ground level, so more of a trip hazard than a navigational aid. On return journey rejoined track at 90 degree bend slightly lower down NN 349 065. Either way is pathless, wet and tussocky but no real problem. | TRG318 | 16/11/2022 |
From Beinn Dubh. Descended NNW then WNW, initially not too bad but it got worse, very tussocky. Aimed for the footbridge, visible from afar 389054. Unfortunately it turned out to be what amounted to an old wooden ladder horizontally across the stream, with quite wide gaps between the slats and no handrails. Didn't fancy it. Thankfully the stream was not in spate and not difficult to cross. The initial ascent through the area protected by the deer fence was very hard work, steep, rough, pathless, unpleasant vegetation. After that it got better, with a certain amount of picking a way through steep slabby ledges. | Owen B | 24/09/2022 |
From large free CP to NW. Lovely walk on WHW path to locked gate - no access - NN 3424 0624. Luckily not locked and obviously much used. Rough walking on hill. | carole engel | 09/09/2022 |
Graham completion with Carol, Mark, Brian. From Inversnaid on standard route. While there was a little threat of rain the conditions cleared so there were excellent views to ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps. | RobertP | 25/06/2022 |
Beinn a Choin and Cruinn Bheinn from Loch Chon | Huwel | 25/06/2022 |
From Rowardennan - along WHW then up to head of Gleann Gaoithe, then straight up. Descended S to Bealach Cruinn a' Bheinn then up Ben Lomond. | quadbarrel | 15/08/2021 |
Along the WHW from Inversnaid Hotel to Cailness Cottage. Up the track from there amongst a chorus of willow warblers until it eventually levelled out. We took a bee-line across the, thankfully dry, bog to Cruinn a' Bheinn. It was so warm and dry that we next headed SEE to Creag a' Bochain and its south top, giving fantastic views over Loch Lomond across to The Cobbler and the Arrochar Alps. Due north back to the track and WHW. 4.45 hrs total. | summitter | 23/04/2021 |
From Inversnaid, where the falls in spate were magnificent. Along WHW, taking the grassy track just before Cailness which leads through a kissing gate and onto the zig-zag track. Across the bog from the col and steeply up to the summit along the line of fence posts. Back the same way, encountering three feral goats en route. Outstanding views throughout. | Nick Down1 | 21/02/2021 |
From my long-awaited 2nd ascent of Ben Lomond, descending its N ridge, then through open, rough, country to the col at the north side of this hill; then an easy ascent, but a long, long walk back via Cailness and WHW to Rowardennan. | IanHHill | 19/05/2018 |
From Inversnaid along WHW to Caliness, up track then across bogs and up. Steeper ascent than was expecting! Fine view point. Return same way. | MichaelF | 18/05/2018 |
SMC route, boggy getting to foot of hill. On way back rather than follow fence went shortest distance back to track further east of fence which we thought better. With DD. | rogreeves | 20/04/2017 |
From Inversnaid Hotel, via Cruachan. Return via track to Caliness and WHW. With 40-odd other people at the summit to celebrate Jen and Rick's final Marliyn. The 9th & 10th people to complete the list. | Minto | 25/09/2016 |
With completion party. | Topographer57 | 25/09/2016 |

Climbed up here with Rick and Jen on their final Marilyn with a large group of other baggers. Did the nearby Hump on route. Great day out.Well done Rick and Jen. | assynt_bob | 25/09/2016 |
With Jenx and about 40 other good bagger friends on our final Marilyn. From Inversnaid, WHW to Cailness then track up to col. Wet thereafter over the col but ok. Great summit party in the shadow of Ben Lomond. On return aim for and stay with the deer fence to its turn then easy contour at 320m back to track. Great day and weather just about behaved itself! | nordicstar | 25/09/2016 |
A fantastic day out with lots of friends to help us celebrate our final hill. | jenx | 25/09/2016 |
Second ascent of this hill, climbed in the company of many others for Rick and Jenny's Marilyn completion. | NormanW | 25/09/2016 |
With Rick and Jen on their Marilyn and Graham completion, sank in swamp on way down. Rained. Crowd of about 40 hillbaggers on top for celebration. Meal in Waverley Hotel in Calander after. | Mark T | 25/09/2016 |

From Inversnaid along WHW to a developing path a short way before Cailness Cottage which takes you up to the track.Follow this to a suitable point opposite the summit and plough across through boggy ground and long grass (knee length). Despite a sign just off the track and comments below I saw no sign of a fence until the old fence just below the summit. Easier to spot a line across the boggy ground in descent - take a few moments to spot the most useful deer tracks. Fine views to west particularly of The Cobbler South top which looks very impressive. | dickscroop | 02/08/2016 |
Ascent from Inversnaid along WHW to Fairness then up track to moor | SpudGunn | 08/06/2016 |

From Inversnaid on West Littered Way to hole in fence marked with white tape at NN34147 06669 - otherwise climb over fence as track at Cailness is locked. Follow forest road until bridge at NN34840 06635 then follow new fence and old fence to the summit plateau. Or make your own way. It involves some descent and re-ascent and boggy ground whatever you do. | Martin R | 26/02/2014 |
Looking for Midas with Holly and Abby. A gorgeous high cloud, light wind, sunny, day with fabulous views from Ben Lomond, round Glen Douglas hills, Arrochar and Crienlarich hills to Trossachs. Snow above 2000'. Rob Roy Carpark, Cruachan, Cruinn a Bheinn, Beinn Uamha, and back over the tops. New Deer fence needed to be jumped several times. 7 hours. | alexmaclennan | 02/02/2013 |
second ascent was on a beautiful day with friends and elderly dog. No track from col but following fenceline seems to give easier ground. | AlisonFox66 | 27/10/2012 |
Camped on summit on a beautiful evening after tough walk over the tops from Balmaha. Woke to mist.... | campagvelocet | 25/06/2012 |
