Round, or out-and-back, of Mount Shade, Clachnaben and Sandy Hill from the car park. Followed path from Mount Shade. Then track to Sandy Hill, and back.Minto10/03/2022
Great path, car park off Old Military Road getting busier every year, not too difficult ascent, not really affected by recent storms. Quite busy on New Year's Day. Recommended in all seasons.Beer Badger01/01/2022
Parked at parking area north of Bridge of Dye, followed paths all the way to the summit via Miller's Bog. Followed same path back.JasonStark31/12/2021
Parked in a car park at NO 64882 86880, and followed a signed route initially pleasantly through the wood, then along Miller's Bog, up the SW side of the next wood, and on the path to the summit. Managed to reach the top of the Tor with lots of helpful encouragement from Peter. Continued on to Mount Shade.LizH22/11/2021

4th ascent with L and our new charges - two 'desert hunting dogs' from Abu Dhabi - whose previous walks had been indoors on treadmills?! They loved their second consecutive day out on a Scottish Hill - kept them on their stretchy leads as they get to know us - too hot sunshine 25+ had all of us - dogs and humans flaked out snoozing on return. Joined by new neighbour Richard and his terrier Stan - his first visit to this classic enjoyable hill walk. Back over Mount Shade(less!) to bring outing ascent up to 580m - plenty of stops to let the panting dogs recover a bit.Chris Pearson25/06/2020
Classic hill run with L in morning on good runnable, although steep at times, paths all the way from/ to Glen Dye car park. 1hr 45m round trip incl, coming back over Mount Shade, blowing a gale as usual on top as it has been for all of my 3 ascents now. About to get a whole lot windier as Storm Ciara is thundering its way towards Britain for tonight with 90mph winds , being the biggest storm to hit Britain for 7 years with a months worth of rain in one day expected for some places and hundreds of flights cancelled.Chris Pearson08/02/2020

Can I walk 2020 miles this year? probably not -but here's 6 for starters. Just need to do the same for the next 364 days - so no chance - maybe split it with L - as friend Tim did with his wife who between them walked 2019 miles last year year - or aim to do 2020 kms perhaps. Today With John, Becks & Alex , and a stream of dozens of other jolly New Year day ascensionists. Sunny and bright but with a strong fresh (gale) wind trying to knock you off the top. 2nd ascent for me. Good sharp views as we ate our peanut butter & banana butties behind a rock - the same lunch choice J & B reported munching last New Year's day sat on a mountain top in Ethiopia.Chris Pearson01/01/2020
Circular from car park N of Bridge of Dye. From Mount Shade before descent via Hill of Duclash.Smudge24/12/2019
with Grant. A dreich day, got as far as Clachnaben and gave up, rain cleared just as we got down.Cumbrianexile23/12/2019
Rocky summit granite tor prominent from miles around -including from our housesit 6 miles away. 53 rock climbs , many with stars are listed with some of the Diff / V diff gullies and chimneys doubling up as harder snow and ice climbs in winter. A well maintained dry path up Glen Dye through beautiful scots pines. With L, 4 hours morning outing over 4 tops -sunny but 'well ventilated' with strong wind high up. This was good news because all types of granite contain various amounts of uranium, an element that produces radon gas. Worryingly radon can be a carcinogen and is therefore a health concern, especially in poorly ventilated indoor spaces. (hence reassuring strong winds welcome today?). Measurements of radon from granite work tops have been done for health risks -but non found.Chris Pearson26/08/2019
From Glen Dye carpark to track across Miller's bog and up good path by stream through plantation. Carried on over Sandy Hill to Mount Battock and back.Flatfield15/07/2019
Mist started clearing on summit. Then onto Hill of Edendocher and south to Glen Dye.Windy Corner28/04/2019
From carpark on B974. Through woods then up well maintained path to the granite tor at the summit. Good views. Along wide tracks to Hill of Edendocher and descending SW to Charr, returning to the carpark on easy track past sheep. Windy at top. 16km.PiranhaFish29/03/2019
From car park over Mount Shade first...windy made the Tor scramble interestingN.Morters15/02/2019
Hash walk on fantastic sunny day!CeltFi02/01/2019
From Bridge of Dye over Mount Shade; good paths. Did the scary scramble up the SW edge. From the big ledge, there is a good hand-hold for the left hand and then it is a matter of hoping that the boots and hands don't slip on the rough slab.Alan Moore25/07/2018
From Bridge of Dye, out via Glen Dye, back along the tops via Clachnaben, snow underfoot higher up - did not have time left to ascend the torrjf3501/04/2018
A fascinating granite plug summit makes this hill stand out from its neighbours for miles around. Excellent work by the team that built the footpath to it, but probably needing a touch up now to reduce further erosion.summitter17/06/2017

With a friend. From car park on B974 north of Bridge of Dye. Quite fast ascent following standard path to summit of Clachnaben. Wind strong on summit so ascent to highest point of rocks done with care. Went to the summit of Mount Shade on the way back.pwbellarby02/11/2014

See Sandy Hill. Nowhere near as hot as last years ascent. However it was one of the first dry days I have had on the hill this year. Descent to Millers Bog tree roots are coming thru the surface of the path. Only met 4 people today and they were ascending Clachnaben when I was heading out. A long day 16.7 miles mainly on hard surface sore legs now (next day)LizzieG06/05/2013
Parked at the car park on the Cairn O' Mounth road. Path begins gently downhill passing through Miller's Bog, and a woodland area. After clearing the trees the view of the summit opens up and the path gets steeper. A final scramble up around the back of the tor and you are rewarded with stunning views in every direction.jackwesthill08/09/2012
